Work Text:
"So what are we gonna hunt today, Na-tan?" asks Nashi to his husband as he hanged of his shoulder.
They were stopped at a crossroads while Johnathan checked the map to figure out which way they had to go to arrive where the monsters were.
After the last map incident, Nashi was no longer allowed to lead them where they were going, much less be in charge of it, which was just fine by him, since he got to watch his lover's cute expressions while he concentrated on reading their map.
"Hmm... Left."
Used to his husband not answering immediately, Nashi turns away from the other's shoulder to face the direction they are heading, at the same time spinning the heavier side of his weapon, a long metal staff with the blade of a scythe on one end and an axe and hammer head on the other, to rest on his shoulder as they walked.
"Boar. 100 feet."
"Oh a 100 feet tall Boar-Beast? That's pretty big," Nashi grinned, "Fun."
A dark skinned figure haloed by bloodstained golden hair stepped out of the forest into the clearing where Johnathan had made camp while Nashi went to hunt down the big boar.
He is standing straight and tall, despite the gigantic dead boar resting on his shoulders and hands.
The scene is comical, the giant corpse seeming to float above the ground, yet completely dwarfing the slim figure that carried it.
BOOM.
The earth rumbles and birds fly away from their perches in the trees, startled.
The figure rights himself, perking up and almost bouncing when he catches sight of a pale, ghost-like white haired figure wetting a cloth for him to clean himself off with.
"Na-tan!" he grins, skipping in his husband's direction.
Johnathan gives him a soft smile in return and hands him the cloth.
Nashi takes it and starts wiping the blood out of his hair as the other walks away, picking up his knife from where he left it as he heads towards the boar's dead form.
He will skin the creature, removing its tusks and separating its meat into more transportable pieces, some of which will be sold of to butchers, others of which will be preserved and kept to eat on their travels. The tusks will be cashed in at the next adventurers guild they pass as proof that they had dealt with the monster.
Skinning their kills was delicate and difficult work, but necessary to earn money to use in town.
Finished packing away the pieces of meat they would be selling, Nashi approached the fire where Johnathan roasted a chunk for them to eat.
The meat was turning dark brown and glistened as juices dribbled out of it. It smelled delicious, unlike the boar's blood, and Nashi's stomach rumbled in anticipation.
A tasty, well earned meal eaten with good cheer and good company after a job well done; the perfect end to a perfect day of hunting.
If only everyday could be like this.
