Work Text:
It starts with “goodbye” and ends with “see you later”.
It came from cheerful smiles and loud laughter,
from distant stars and bright fires.
It became worn faces with creased frowns,
quiet places and tired clouds.
To what it was and what it were,
a thing of the past or something that blurred,
it was what held them together that until today
their words have never been emptier
“I love you”

He wanders off into ivory hallways and pristine rooms,
He idles by the large windows with a haven view,
And He...waits.
Patiently, as if time isn’t running out.
Persists, if negative thoughts come about.
And hopes that the day will come when they'll be together again.
“I love you too”
They heard
If he can’t find his way and become lost,
he recognizes them and returns whatever the cost.
If he can’t set it aside, he longs for them to hold.
And if he grows sapped, they remind him to stay embraced to not be cold.
He looks at his palms and finds their names,
unforgettable but foreign all the same.
Another fidgets with the rings strung around his neck,
cold but special, an emotional attachment.
And the third he lies on the ground, alone and expecting
with tears falling down his cheeks cascading
“Please come back”
He cried to the stars.
For it hurt so much more than any of his scars.
May fate lead them all back together again,
but alas it had other plans so we’ll have to see how that ends.
In memory, in time, in a different world
where slime runs freely and bells are heard.
Where cheers return and laughter bursts again,
a story in a book long forgotten.
