Work Text:

Scar sat down by the fire, holding two glasses of mulled wine as he handed one to Grian. Grian smiled softly, thanking the older man as he made place for him under the blanket. Outside it was snowing, the Hermitcraft server starting to transform into a winter wonderland. It was early for snow, but Scar didn't mind. Only the more excuses to cuddle with Grian.

"Already got some New Year's resolutions?" Grian laughed as he rolled his eyes.

"It's barely December."

"So? I'm just wondering." Grian sighed as he leaned against Scar who wrapped an arm around him in return. The fire was crackling, little sparks flying away. The warmth was nice on Grian's skin, it made his cheek flushes and a beautiful rosy colour. The warm-toned light that it emitted lit up the whole room they were in. It was in the Swaggon, Scar's beautiful build. Grian loved it here. It always felt so welcoming and relaxing. It felt like home. Nostalgic, almost.

"I have a couple?"

"Care to share with me?"

"I want to be more honest with myself." It felt stupid when he said it, but even as dumb as Grian felt, the emotions that were hidden under the sentence made him feel like he was choking. There was sadness in his throat, making him unable to breathe the love around him. The love Scar had given him. The love he was trying to give himself... He kept pretending like he was fine, like pretending to love yourself would eventually make it real... "I'm sorry." Grian wiped his tears away, sniffling as his nose started to run a little.

"Nothing to apologize for, dear... I think that's a wonderful resolution." Grian laughed, tears falling down his face. He couldn't catch up anymore, now letting himself cry freely. Scar's kind words, the small kiss on his temple, it was like permission to finally cry his heart out. It was like Grian had grabbed a broken glass that was being held together by glue and ducktape and finally accepted that it was in fact still broken. No matter the amount of telling yourself that the glass is still fine, it's still usable, will fix the damage that has already been done.

"Thank you," Grian said when he had stopped crying when there was nothing left to cry about. It was just him. Him and Scar. Him, Scar and the fire that was still burning.

"You know that I love you, right?" Grian nodded.

"I know."

"Good. Because I will never stop loving you. You deserve to be loved, to feel loved, no matter how broken you are, okay?" Grian nodded and smiled when Scar carefully bonked their foreheads together. Scar giggled, his eyes turning into crescents. "I love you."

"I love you too."
