Work Text:
"Scotty, this is the ugliest thing your grandma has ever sent me," Leonard huffed, holding his arms out like he couldn't stand the garment. Montgomery thought he looked handsome, but then again, Montgomery thought he'd look handsome covered in fish guts.
"It's her way of showing ye ye're part of the family," Montgomery smiled, trying to lighten the mood. It worked and Leonard smiled softly, huffing out a laugh.
"You think so?"
Montgomery nodded, walking toward his boyfriend and wrapping his arms around him, kissing his nose.
"Well, you've got one too," Leonard gently pulled away and gestured to the box that had been abandoned on their bed when Leonard went to open it.
"Aye," Montgomery almost rolled his eyes, still smiling. "Ah doubt Ah'll look as good as ye do in it."
Leonard huffed. "You'll look amazing. You always do. Plus, you get to wear a dumb sweater right next to me."
And no Leonard was not smirking.
Montgomery cast him a look before fishing into the box and pulling out the sweater. The sweater matched the one Leonard was already wearing, hand knit with love and a lot of Christmas ugliness.
Montgomery put it on over his uniform and gestured to Leonard like 'see, now we're both wearing dumb christmas sweaters' and they both chuckled softly.
Montgomery returned to his boyfriend, wrapping his arms around him as they swayed in their quarters. The gentle hum of the ship played like an accompanying orchestra to this moment and Leonard adjusted Montgomery's sweater a bit.
"Handsome as always," Leonard mused. "You smell like coconuts."
"It's the shampoo," Montgomery smiled softly, kissing Leonard's neck.
"These sweaters are nice and warm," The doctor admitted after a while.
"We'll be needing them for shore leave." When Leonard's eyebrows raised in confusion, Montgomery explained, "Ah was hoping we could go to Scotland for Christmas. S-so ye could meet the family."
A beat passed where Montgomery thought he'd pushed too far, but then Leonard was smiling. "I'd love that."
