Work Text:
Chanyeol was fated to not be by Junmyeon's side, but he just couldn't control himself when the prince smiled at him so beautifully.
As part of the royal guard, Chanyeol wasn't supposed to have any other relationship with the prince except what his contract demands. The Park family has been part of the royal family guard for a long time and, for years, there were no problems with them both. The Kim family had always been kind and fair with their servants, so it was common to see them both talk as if they were close friends instead employee and employer.
However, it wasn't common to see one of their guards hanging out a way too much with the royal family heir, Kim Junmyeon, who was already destined to marry a princess — who certainly wasn't Chanyeol.
But Prince Junmyeon didn't care. He would always ask Chanyeol to join him on his afternoon walks, or even have a friendly horse ride, where they talked about the books they used to read at the Royal family library. He would always ask Chanyeol to stay next to him when he couldn't sleep, to hold his hand and sing him a song, even though Chanyeol wasn't actually allowed to do that.
Little by little, he stole Chanyeol's young heart the same way Chanyeol stole his, unintentionally.
And Chanyeol knew it. He knew because he saw the portraits Junmyeon painted, with them side by side watching the sunrise.
He didn't need to be a kind of artist to know that portrait talked about love. Young, genuine, love.
"Love me, don't hurt me. Just kiss me, don't burn me…" Chanyeol whispered to Junmyeon, still holding his hand while watching him sleep peacefully, beautifully. "And I'll be yours… I'll be yours..."
He sang the last sentence and then caught himself staring at Junmyeon's peaceful expression. His beautiful eyes closed and his mouth sweetly designedly by angels.
"You are almost twenty but you act as if you were 16 yet." Chanyeol whispered to himself, smiling with that thought. His hands caressing Junmyeon's hair smoothly. "You are growing up… Soon, we won't be able to do this anymore…"
He caressed Junmyeon's cheek and, at that time, smiled sadly. Junmyeon was the heir of a kingdom. He couldn't stay forever with Chanyeol with their teenage dream for too long.
"You know we can't be together, don't you?" He whispered and took his hand next to his lips, kissing it gently. "Can you just imagine your father's face if he sees us just now?"
Chanyeol giggled to himself and then looked at Junmyeon's hand. It was smaller than his, so he compared their sizes and chuckled when noticed his fingers were almost the same size as Junmyeon's hand as a whole.
"If you only could be mine..."
He crossed their fingers and then looked at Junmyeon one more time, now staring at his lips dangerously. At the silence, they just looked so sweet that Chanyeol could do nothing but lean a little, just to look at them closer.
He felt Junmyeon breathe next to his face and, oh my God, he was so close…
Ignoring all the voices inside his head because of the loud sound of his heart beating, he leaned closer and closer, until the moment he felt the softness against his lips. The kiss was nothing but just a touch but for Chanyeol, it was equivalent to a million butterflies in his stomach.
He was really in love with Junmyeon.
If Junmyeon could only be his.
So he heard footsteps next to the room and, as fast as he could, he stood up, walking away from the prince's bed and going back to his flag station before they could notice his absence.
He didn't see when Junmyeon opened his eyes slowly and put his fingers on his own lips, smiling while his chest beat as fast as Chanyeol's.
If Chanyeol only knew Junmyeon was already his, what would he do?
