Chapter Text
4th year
“Marls?” Remus shouted outside of the girls bathroom waiting for her friend to answer him. He had been looking for her for the last fifteen minutes after she hadn't shown up for their study appointment. Remus decided to go find another room but when he was a few steps away he heard some sobs coming from the bathroom. It probably was Moaning Myrtle, but something inside Remus would not let him continue without verifying that Marlene was alright. But if it really was Myrtle (which she was most likely) he would be stuck for half an hour listening to her complaints.
For the luck of Remus (or for his bad luck, because he really doesn't know how to comfort people) it was Marlene who was crying. At this point, tears didn't roll down her face, but she kept sobbing.
“I am such an idiot,” Marlene weeps. “I am done, Rem. I will stop trying to impress them.” She said as she pushed the paper to him.
Dear Marly,
Your brother has reported your academic progress, as you should respond to your family. I understand that you have not been selected in Ravenclaw, like your brothers, but we will not accept that your academic level decreases. Michael says your good grades are due to a housemate, so give him these cookies as a thank you. Maybe you should hang out with that guy more, your new beater position makes you look like a tomboy, you won't want that reputation among the boys.
Keep it up with your notes, everyone at home is very proud of you. We also hope to meet your friend in the next break.
-Dad
“So where are my cookies?” Remus asked, hoping it would make her laugh. It did work.
“You are an asshole”
“The asshole is your father. He is afraid you will become a lesbian because you are the first female beater in Howgarts? Didn't he want you to be like your brother? He is a beater, right?”
“I don't understand! I am literally taking extra classes with you and I am fourth in our year with grades now!” Marlene sighed “I will never be perfect for them.”
Remus didn't know what to say, so he listened.
“You are my best friend, right? That won't change?” she asked after a few minutes in silence. Remus nodded his head, because after many study sessions, Marlene is his best (female) friend. “I think it affects me so much what he says about me, because deep down i think i might be a lesbian.”
Remus didn't know what to say, but he thought this would be a great moment to say that he had been thinking about Fabian Prewett lately. So he did tell Marlene that.
“Not that we should tell anyone. They fill their mouths saying that times are changing, but they still don't accept us.” He said, because he had thought about this for too long. He has a similar situation with his sexuality and his furry little problem.
“We should date!”
“What? You just told me you are a lesbian and i might be confused with my sexuality aswell”
“Exactly, for us it will mean nothing and nobody would doubt our sexuality”
Remus couldn't hide his werewolf condition, not with the scars and constantly disappearing once a month. But his sexuality? He could hide it if he accepts Marlene's proposal. He already has too many problems, so he won't let these Fabian Prewett thoughts grow into another problem.
That's how on April the 7th, Marlene Mckinnon and Remus Lupin made their first appearance as a couple.
