I need the mark of Cain off my brother

Summary:

Sam enlists Rowena to remove the mark of Cain from Dean but Dean finds out and spanks Sam.

Work Text:

Sam has enlisted Rowena to get the mark of Cain off of Dean. Sam had been checking up on Rowena’s progress daily until Dean mentions he has noticed Sam going off on his own and how uncharacteristic it is of him to do so. Sam decides he will have to start doing his check in’s after Dean goes to sleep at night before Dean figures out what he is doing. Sam does not know how to tell Dean he didn’t burn the book of the damed and knows once Dean finds out he won’t be able to sit for a week. It was only ten at night but Sam made a big production of acting tired and telling Dean he was headed off to bed, Dean nodded and went back to looking for a case that would keep his mind off of the mark of Cain and help him keep a handle on it. Around midnight Dean went off to bed. Sam had been listening for the sound of Dean’s bedroom door closing. Sam let out a sigh thinking he needed to give Dean a half hour to fall asleep so he could sneak out and check on Rowena’s progress.

A half-hour later Sam was in the Impala headed to Rowena. Sam walks in to find Rowena asleep at the table. Sam walks over and nudges her arm “Hey!” Rowena wakes with a start “what! Samual?! What time is it?” Sam rolls his eyes “after midnight, where are you with the translation?” Rowena glares at Sam “Same place I was yesterday.” Sam Glares at Rowena “I need this done and I need it done NOW!” Rowena glares back at Sam “I am aware of that Samuel, things like this take time. We mess up one part of this spell and who knows what could happen to your brother.” Sam leans into Rowena “get this done.” Sam starts walking out “I’ll be back tomorrow.” Rowena yells out her anger and throws a bowl in Sam’s direction but he is already out the door. Rowena huffs and slumps back into her chair “that boy needs a spanking. If I wasn’t trust up like a chicken I’d give him one.”

Sam gets back in the impala and starts his drive back to the bunker more irritated than he was before, seeing the bar up ahead Sam thinks I’ll just stop in for one drink. Around drink three Sam is giving lip to anyone who looks his way and by five drinks Sam is drunk and angrier than he was when he arrived. Sam pushes back from the bar and stagers into another patron, with a sneer Sam looks at the man “Watch it.” The man scoffs “you watch it.” Sam gives the man a once over then pushes him “fuck you! get out of my way.” Stunned the man gets in Sam’s face as best he can “look kid.” That’s all it took and Sam started swinging taking all his hurt, anger, and loss out on this random guy in a bar. Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, Jake the owner of the bar knows Sam and Dean and he was trying to calm Sam down but it was no use. Sam was out to make someone pay for the fucked up place his life was in right now. Ultimately the police were called and now Sam finds himself handcuffed and sitting in the back of a police car trying to figure his way out of this mess.

It was now a little past three in the morning and the police had taken everyone's statements and Sam had sobered up enough to realize he needs to get home before Dean wakes up. Sam recognized the officer coming towards him and thinks okay we helped him a few months ago with that spirit, time to call in a favor and save my ass. Officer Thompson opens the door and leans down to look in at Sam. Sam bites his lip unsure how this is going to go, all he knows for sure is he has to do whatever he can to not get hauled off to the police station. Officer Thompson cocks his head “I talked the guy out of pressing charges and Jake isn’t pressing any either, says he knew he should have cut you off at drink number two.” Sam lets out a sigh “thank you, am I free to go?” Officer Thompson shakes his head no. Sam cringes “you’re still taking me in?” Officer Thompson rubs his chin as he thinks, then smiles “I’ll be back.” He shuts the door leaving Sam wondering what is going on, and what his next move is. If he can get officer Thompson to take him close to home he can jog back in an hour and get the car and get home before Dean is even up.

Officer Thompson is talking with his partner who asks “so what you just want to let him go?” Officer Thompson puts a hand on his partner's shoulder in reassurance “No, I know his brother, he helped me out a while back. I’m going to have him come pick the kid up.” The other officer nods “think he will?” Officer Thompson nods “oh yea he will, and if I’m right he will address the issue better than we could.” Officer Thompson takes out his phone and finds Dean’s number. Dean wakes with a start and looks at his phone it reads “Officer Thompson” Dean also sees it's three-thirty in the morning and with a groan answers the call “Hello Officer Thompson. What’s up?” Officer Thompson looks over at Sam and decides he is doing the right thing, he would want someone to call him if his younger brother was acting out. “Hi Dean, I have a bit of a problem and-“ Dean interrupts “another spirit?” Officer Thompson laughs “spirits yes but more the distilled kind.” Dean sits up “what?” Officer Thompson sighs “I need you to come down to Jack’s and pick up Sam.” Dean still is not fully awake “what? Sam?” As officer Thompson tells Dean what happened Dean exits his room and walks over to Sam’s room and opens the door to find the room empty. “According to the witnesses” Dean blinks “Witnesses?” Officer Thompson continues as Dean heads back to his room to put on his boots “Yes according to them Sam was looking for a fight, guess he found one.” Dean has his coat on and is headed towards the garage and sees his baby is also not where it should be “Damn it!” Office Thompson continues “No one is pressing charges.” Dean grabs another set of keys and gets into one of the cars in the garage “I just was hoping that you.” Dean interrupts again “I’m on my way.” Officer Thompson smiles “great we will wait here for you.” Dean starts the car and heads toward Jake’s as he hangs up the phone with a growl “Damn it, Sammy.”

Officer Thompson goes back over to Sam and opens the door. Immediately Sam starts talking “Look I know I screwed up, but if no one is pressing charges you can’t keep me here.” Officer Thompson nods in agreement as Sam presses on “I’m totally sober enough to get myself home and it’s not even that far.” Officer Thompson raises an eyebrow as Sam presses on “ I mean my brother and I did help you with that spirit a month ago, right?” Officer Thompson nods “yes you did, and I owe you both, and that is why you are still here and not at the precinct right now.” Sam bites his lip “Okay, so now what?” Officer Thompson smiles “now we wait.” Sam is confused “for what?” Officer Thompson smirks “for your brother to come to pick you up.” Sam pales “you, you called Dean?” Officer Thompson nods. Sam swallows hard “shit.” Officer Thompson looks satisfied, thinking he made the right call. Sam’s reaction is exactly what a worried younger sibling about to get in trouble should look like. “Your welcome.” Officer Thompson says as he closes the door and walks back to Jake who is standing in front of his bar not looking happy.

As Dean drives the fifteen minutes to the bar he makes up his mind on exactly how to handle Sam “He acts like a kid, I’ll treat him like a kid.” Dean has known for a while now that Sam is hiding something from him and this tantrum was Sam’s way of outing himself. Dean pulls up to Jake’s to see Officer Thompson standing with Jake, and Sam sitting in the police car with his head down obviously rehearsing what he is going to say to Dean. Dean sighs and shakes his head as he exits the car and goes up to the officer and Jake. “Gentlemen” Officer Thompson shakes Dean’s hand “thanks for coming Dean.” Jake nods at Dean. Dean understands the man is pissed, so is he. “Jake I’m sorry, after I talk to Sammy he will be in to apologize.” Jake nods again “kid needs an attitude adjustment.” Dean smirks and nods “I assure you he will be getting one.” Jake nods and goes back into the bar leaving Dean with officer Thompson “thanks for calling, and for getting the charges dropped.” Officer Thompson pats Dean’s shoulder “it’s the least I could do after you helped me out last month.” Dean smiles “anytime.” Dean looks over at Sam, Sam feels Dean’s eyes on him and looks over at him. Dean gives Sam a stern expression that has Sam biting his lip and looking back down at his hands in his lap. Dean shakes his head “Time to get to the bottom of this figuratively and literally.” Office Thompson nods and he and Dean walk over to the police car Sam is sitting in.

Officer Thompson opens the door and Dean squats down and shakes his head at Sam “Sammy, Sammy, Sammy.” Sam cringes “M’sorry Dean.” Dean stands back up and looks at Officer Thompson as he reaches in and pulls Sam out of the car. Officer Thompson pulls out his key and unlocks the cuffs from Sam’s wrists. Sam rubs his wrists nervously waiting for Dean to make a move. “Did you thank Officer Thompson for getting the guy you beat up not to press charges?” Officer Thompson nods “he did, of course, he also tried to convince me to just let him go home.” Sam gapes at the officer. Dean raises an eyebrow “oh did he?” Dean tightens his hold on Sam’s arm. Sam said the only thing he could think to say “Sorry Dean.” Dean hummus in the back of his throat “let’s go, Sammy.” Dean pulls Sam towards the bar and Sam frowns “Dean the car-“ Dean stops and turns to Sam “don’t you think you should go in and apologize to Jake?” Sam swallows hard but nods. “Unless you're in a big hurry to get back to the bunker to get the epic ass whooping you got coming?” Sam’s eyes go big as saucers as Dean guide him into the bar.

Once in the bar Dean leads Sam over to the bar counter where Jack is. Sam can’t even look at the man he is so embarrassed. Dean clears his throat and Sam looks up at Jake who is standing there looking at him with his arms crossed over his chest and the same stern look Dean has on his face. Sam takes a deep breath “Jake, I’m sorry I got into a fight-“ Dean clears his throat “got into a fight or started a fight, Sam?” Sam bites his lip “I’m sorry I started a fight in your bar.” Jake huffs out a breath “you’re banned from the bar for two weeks kid.” Sam nods but with a little more edge in his voice than Dean would like to hearsays “alright.” Dean looks around seeing the bar is empty and decides it’s time to take that attitude of Sam’s down a notch “he won’t be going anywhere for the next month.” Sam looks at Dean fuming “that’s not- I’m not a- Dean!” Sam huffs and tries to pull out of Dean’s hold but Dean just tightens his grip. Frustrated Sam barks out “can we just go now!”

Dean decides it’s time to move this along “Bend over and put your hands on the bar.” Sam frowns “what?” Dean knows Sam is aware of what he wants him to do “Now Sam!” Sam looks at Dean pleading with his best puppy dog eyes “Dean please.” Dean shakes his head “this is happening Sam, so bend over. Trust me you don’t want my help.” Sam sighs but bends at the waist and puts his hands on the bar “feet farther apart.” Sam blushes but complies. Dean puts one hand on the small of Sam’s back and grabs hold of Sam’s belt and the waist of his jeans to keep him in place. Without another word Dean starts spanking Sam. Sam blushes bright red praying for this to be a short spanking. Sam tries his best not to make a sound but by the time Dean lays down the tenth swat he can’t hold back “ahhh, please De.” SWAT SWAT SWAT “I’m sorry.” SWAT SWAT SWAT “owww” SWAT SWAT SWAT “Please” Sam whines out. SWAT SWAT SWAT “M’sorry” SWAT SWAT SWAT Sam’s breath hitches and Dean stops, Sam takes in a ragged breath and wipes his eyes on his sleeve. “Alright Sam stands up, we will finish this at home.” Sam lets go of the bar and stands, he looks up at Jake through his bangs. Seeing the satisfied look on Jake's face Sam looks down at the floor wishing it would open up and swallow him whole. Dean looks at Jake “Is there anything that was broken that Sam needs to pay for?” Jake smirks “we’re even now.” Dean grabs Sam’s arm again “let's go.”

Dean hauls Sam to the car, once they get to the passenger side Dean holds out his hand and Sam reaches into his pocket and drops the keys in Dean’s hand. Dean unlocks the door and opens it “get in the car” Sam gets in as fast as he can and groans as he sits. Dean and Sam drive in uncomfortable silence back to the bunker. Sam wants to say something but he can tell from the look on Dean's face nothing he could say is going to save his ass so he just stays silent. Dean pulls into the bunker's garage and looks over at Sam who is looking down at his feet “go to your room and find a corner, I’ll come to get you once I calm down.” Sam nods and gets out of the car as fast as he can and goes to his room. Dean walks in and calls Castiel.

Twenty minutes have passed and Sam is still standing in the corner of his room waiting for Dean. Five minutes later the door opens and Sam waits for instructions. Castiel closes the door and walks up behind Sam “Sam.” Sam frowns but turns to Castiel thinking something must be wrong “Cas, what are you doing here?” Castiel motions for Sam to sit and reluctantly Sam sits on his bed. Castiel walks over to Sam’s desk and leans against it “Cas?” Castiel sighs “Sam, I’m here to ensure your safety.” Sam furrows his brow “what? Why?” Castiel sighs “Dean is afraid the mark might make him go too far, he wants me to step in and stop him if he seems out of control.” Sam raises an eyebrow “Is he that mad at me?” Castiel frowns “No Sam he just wants to make sure you are safe and that the mark doesn’t take over.” Sam hangs his head “I’m sorry Cas.” Castiel moves to sit next to Sam “don’t be.” Sam shakes his head “you have to promise me you won’t interfere unless he draws blood or-.” Castiel frowns at Sam “Sam, you went out drinking and got in a fight, yes you deserve a spanking but not a beating.” Sam sighs “Cas when I tell Dean why I was out getting drunk it’s not going to go over well.” Castiel gives Sam a questioning look “why?” Sam bites his lip “I have Rowena working on the spell in the book of the damned to get the mark of Cain off of Dean.” Castiel cocks his head “but you burned that book. Dean Said - Sam?” Sam grimaces “I know Cas.” Castiel stands and paces “Dean doesn’t know?” Sam shakes his head “No, I’m going to have to tell him.” Castiel points to the door “He is not going to take this well at all Sam.” Sam runs his hand through his hair “I know.” Sam stands “let’s get this over with.” Castiel leads Sam out to the library.

Sam and Castiel enter the library to find Dean sitting in a chair with his arms folded over his chest and his belt folded in half sitting on the table next to him. Sam bites his lip and walks over to stand in front of Dean with his head down. Dean looks at Sam and shakes his head “So you ready to tell me why you felt it necessary to start a drunken brawl at Jake’s?” Sam takes in a deep breath “you’re not going to be happy.” Dean leans forward “I’m not happy now Sammy.” Sam presses his lips together and tries to think of the best way to say what he needs to say “Okay, so I was in that bar drinking because I was angry, and that guy just was wrong place wrong time.” Dean cocks his head “are you mad at me?” Sam shakes his head “no, I’m mad at Rowena.” Dean frowns “Rowena? Why, what did she do now?” Sam sighs “It’s more what she hasn’t done.” Dean stands up “okay what has she not done?.” Sam lowers his head “There is this spell I need her to do for me.” Dean raises an eyebrow “Sammy, why do you need Rowena to do a spell for you!?” Sam cringes “um because she is the only one who can.” Dean starts pacing “Why?” Sam sighs “I should have just come back home instead of stopping for a drink.” Dean stops and narrows his eyes at Sam “Come back from where you were supposed to be safe in bed not out doing God knows what.” Sam puts up his hands “I know Dean, I just needed to check on some stuff.” Dean rubs his chin “What stuff?” Sam fidgets “just some stuff.” Dean is done he grabs Sam’s arm and turns him towards the table and bends him over it and starts laying down swats “I want some answers, Sam.” SWAT SWAT SWAT SWAT SWAT “and I want them now.” SWAT SWAT SWAT SWAT SWAT “I suggest you tell me what you are up to with Rowena” SWAT SWAT SWAT SWAT SWAT “I suggest you stop talking in circles and start telling me some truth.” SWAT SWAT SWAT SWAT SWAT. Dean stands Sam back up and gets in his face “Otherwise little brother you will find yourself out back cutting yourself a switch and then there will be no more talking. Understand?” Sam swallows hard and nods his understanding. Dean steps back and crosses his arms and glares at Sam “start talking.”

Sam gives Castiel a worried look Dean looks from Castiel to Sam “Sam, if I have to ask Cas you will be cutting that switch.” Sam presses his lips together and nods as he squares his shoulders “I need Rowena to decode a spell for me in order to” in barely a whisper “remove the Mark of Cain from your arm.” Dean rubs the back of his neck and grabs his belt and steps closer to Sam “Sammy, the spell to remove the mark was in the book of the Damned and that book burned, you burned it, Right?” Sam looks at the floor “not so much.” Dean is seething “WHAT?” Sam stammers “We- we needed the spell Dean so I- I swiped it out and kept it in case-“ Sam never got to finish his explanation Dean grabbed Sam’s arm and turned him back towards the table. He put the belt back down on the table so he could unbutton Sam’s pants. In one swoop Dean pulls down Sam’s pants and boxers as he pushes his back until he is bent over the table “you said you burned it.” thwack the belt came down dead center on Sam’s ass and they keep coming as Dean lectured “lied right to my face.” thwack thwack thwack thwack “I told you.” thwack thwack thwack “magic like that comes at a price.” thwack thwack thwack the belt is coming down so fast Sam can’t catch his breath “I had to try Dean I” thwack thwack thwack thwack thwack thwack “you should have told me Sam” thwack thwack thwack thwack thwack thwack “owww couldn’t” thwack thwack thwack thwack thwack thwack “Why?” thwack thwack thwack thwack thwack thwack Sam is sobbing as Dean lays in harder. “This is done Sam, call it off” thwack thwack thwack thwack thwack thwack ahhhh No.” Dean stops talking and just keeps painting Sam’s ass red. Sam is sobbing and telling Dean he is sorry but he can’t stop. Dean just keeps swinging. After the eighty-fifth, Swat Castiel grabs Dean and pulls him back as Dean goes to lay down another swat on Sam’s ass “That’s enough Dean.” Dean tries to get out of the Angeles grasp when he hears Sam sob out “I can’t lose you, I can’t do it again. I’m sorry Daddy.” Dean stops struggling and drops the belt Sam hasn’t called him Daddy since he was fourteen and that was just the morphine talking after his appendix was removed. Dean looks at Sam’s dark red ass and thighs and feels guilty knowing he went too far. Sam does not move just continues to cry and mumble how sorry he is. Dean leans on Castiel “thanks for being here Cas. I’m good, I’m good.” Castiel nods and lets go of Dean.

Dean crosses to Sam and softly touches Sam’s back, Sam sobs out “Please don’t hate me.” Dean sits on the floor next to Sam as he pulls Sam to him and hugs him. As he rubs his back “I got you, I’m here, I’m here. I won’t leave you again I promise.” Sam’s breath hitches “you don’t know that. I can’t De I can’t.” Sam lets go and just sobs into Dean’s neck as Dean holds him “I know Sam, I’m sorry.” Dean starts rocking Sam and humming as he runs his hand through Sam’s hair. “Shu I’ve got you, Sammy.”Cas, can you help me get Sam to my room?” Castiel nods and walks over and grabs Sam’s arm, Dean gets up and grabs Sam’s other arm.

Castiel and Dean lay Sam down on his stomach on Dean’s bed, Sam is still crying and he clutches at Dean until he sits down on the bed “I’m here.” Sam lays his head in Dean’s lap, Dean runs his hand through Sam’s hair. In a few minutes, Sam cries himself to sleep. Dean wipes tears from his own eyes as he looks at Castiel “good thing you were here.” Castiel nods “Dean, maybe we should see where Rowena is with this spell.” Dean shakes his head “it’s too risky Cas, there has to be a catch.” Castiel presses his lips together in thought “if Rowena is doing the spell maybe she will be the one to pay the price.” Dean gives Castiel a confused look “And what if it’s Sam who pays the price? I can’t put him through anymore Cas. No, we destroy the book before this gets out of hand.” Castiel nods. Dean sighs “Cas do you know where Rowena is?” Castiel cocks his head “No, but if Sam went to see her last night she can’t be far. Any chance you think he will tell us?” Dean shrugs “I’ll talk to him when he wakes up, we are going to talk about a lot of things until he understands this spell is not the solution. Cas thanks for stepping in when you did.” Castiel sits on the other side of the bed “your welcome.” Dean looks at Sam’s backside and cringes “why didn’t you step in sooner.” Castiel puts his hand on Sam’s arm “Sam told me not to unless I saw blood.” Dean panics “is there blood?” Castiel shakes his head “no Dean.” Dean hangs his head “can you stay?” Castiel smiles “of course Dean.”
