The dim flicker of candlelight is the only source of light Amity has on this night. A light spell would alert her parent’s advanced security system, and she couldn’t risk them finding out about the letter Luz had sent her before she disappeared. Against the orange hue of the flame, Amity picked up the letter, and turned it over. It was soft against her hands, unlike the rough page textures she usually flipped through. In messy, scrawled handwriting was her own name, a small heart drawn by it. It wasn’t a love heart though, it was an actual heart. The girl laughed into her free hand, and peeled it open. It was a card, with a tree messily scribbled on the paper. Small little lights decorated it, and Amity sighed because it was so Luz. She opened the card, and read the inside.
To my awesome girlfriend, Amity,
MERRY CHRISTMAS! You have no idea what christmas is, do you. Well, it’s a human holiday where we give presents to the people we love and spend time with them. In the human realm, it would be around christmas, and I wanted to give you this card because I LOVE YOU!!

A tear rolled down Amity’s face. She hadn’t dared open the letter, it was the last thing Luz had given her before she returned to the human realm. Two whole years had passed, and her heart ached for her with every passing day. Suddenly a knock sounded at her window. Amity jumped, and swung the candle. But when the light hit the glass, she was shocked to see the face looking back at hers. Older, with eye bags and dimples, but the same mischievous brown eyes she’d fallen in love with.
“Luz?”
