Chapter Text
Ayuko : Are we still on for tonight?
Hizashi : Yes! I have the first half of tomorrow off too so we can still have a sleepover tonight too if you want ;)
Ayuko : Yay!
Hizashi : Great! I have a meeting until 1.30 but I will pick you up at 3 okay?
Ayuko : Sounds good! See you then!
Ayuko : And good luck with your meeting baby :)
One year. Ayuko and Hizashi had been dating for a whole year now. She still couldn’t believe it. It had felt both much longer and much shorter. She was so comfortable with him and they knew each other so well that it felt like they had been married for ten years. But it also seems that it was only a couple of months ago that they had moved from a very good friendship to a romantic relationship.
Hizashi got so excited, and a little sappy, when it came to these sorts of things. At the six-month mark, she planned an entire 3-day weekend for them, and he clung to her the whole time. And after some drinking (and sloppy kissing) he babbled and gushed about how happy she made him and how much he loved her and everything she did for him.
So this time, at the twelve-month mark, he told her that it was his turn to spoil her. They, unfortunately, didn’t have the opportunity for a week, which is what he wanted, or a 3-day weekend due to the timing of the school year. But he did have a little bit of time, and he promised that when there was a school holiday and he had a week off they would go on a trip together.
Ayuko had kept the itinerary for their 3-day weekend a secret until the beginning of the outing, and he was doing the same thing. But he gave her a general idea of how to dress and if she needed to bring anything. Whenever she prodded him for details (apparently he had planned it almost a month ago) he would give her his little “haha I know something you don’t” smile and just kiss her forehead and remind her that it’s a surprise.
--------
Hizashi arrived 20 minutes early. Ayuko was still in the bathroom getting ready when her phone buzzed on the counter.
Hizashi : I’m here early! Letting myself in rn so don’t hit me with a bat
A few moments later, the blond appeared in the mirror’s reflection, a large grin on his face. Ayuko put down the tube of lipstick in her hand to pull his face to hers for a ‘hello’ kiss.
“I couldn’t find my bat so I’ll get you next time,” she teased.
“Gotcha. The meeting didn’t take as long as I thought so I figured I’d come over early.” He tugged on the hem of her skirt. “Is this new? I like it.”
She nodded excitedly. “It was on sale, and has pockets!”
He reached around her waist and shoved his hands into the pockets. He looked at her with exaggerated excitement in the mirror and then began wiggling his fingers to tickle her. She squirmed and pulled his hands out so she could fix a loose pin in her hair.
“Ass.”
He kissed her cheek with an exaggerated smack and patted her rear before sitting on the closed toilet lid to wait for her to finish.
--------
After walking around the mall window-shopping, he led her to the theatre, where he revealed that the movie he chose for them was a subtitled showing of the classic Star Wars: A New Hope. She bounced excitedly and gushed about how happy she was, not giving him a chance to explain the rest of the surprise for a few moments. He had ordered the tickets a while ago and got them their favorite two seats in the theatre, the perfect middle of the back row, and had their favorite candies already hidden in his jacket pockets. If there weren’t other people around she would have kissed him right there.
“I love you so much,” she said over and over, following him up the steps to the very back row with the expression of a doting puppy.
“I know you do. Sit here,” he pointed to a seat and then lifted the armrest between their seats and leaned them all the way back so they could hold each other.
She glanced around the theatre and saw a bunch of other couples and families. They also looked excited. Looking back to her partner, she saw him opening the candies while the pre-movie ads were playing so it didn’t interrupt anything. One last survey of the theatre confirmed no one was looking at them.
Ayuko leaned in and kissed the corner of his mouth quickly. A smile blossomed where she kissed, and his green eyes flashed from the candy to her grinning face. He scanned the room, making sure they still had no audience, before kissing her lips.
She giggled. “I really love you.”
“I really love you, too.” He kissed her again, a hand coming up to cup her face. When he pulled away and met her eyes he couldn’t help but kiss her again. “You’re so cute,” he said with a laugh.
She tried to tell him something but he grabbed her hands in his and kissed her knuckles. Each of them in turn. She giggled.
“I know you love me, baby.”
He put the candy to the side and pulled her close to lay his arm over her shoulders. She happily lay her head on his chest, eyes closed, feeling the beat of his heart against her cheek. The smell of his cologne was comforting to her, and she enjoyed being in his bubble in a way that it would surround her, too.
The lights dimmed around them, signaling her to open her eyes. It was dark for only a few moments before the title flashed on the screen and the loud music began. Hizashi jumped a little, and she grinned up at him with fake cruel joy. He stuck his tongue out, which she returned before they turned back to the screen.
--------
Hizashi was ecstatic. He knew she was gonna love everything he planned, but the fact that she was this happy was such a win.
The moment they walked in the door of his apartment and the door closed and locked with a click, she grabbed his jacket collar and kissed him.
He eagerly reciprocated, one hand resting on her hip and the other on the back of her neck. It wasn’t lusty, but something sweet, all of her belated “thank you” kisses at once now that they were alone.
She pulled away and blinked up at him with a goofy smile on her face.
“I really won at 1 year anniversaries, huh?”
“How’d you guess?”
“Just a hunch. Time for the rest of the trilogy?”
