Candlelight

Summary:

One evening, while the Command Crew are out in San Fransisco together on shore leave, the power goes out. Leaving them with ancient candles as their main source of light.

Three French Hens: Candlelight

Notes:

Hello again.
Sorry for not posting anything yesterday, I couldn't think of anything to write for day 2 so I didn't have anything to post.
This one's a bit longer than day 1 and is all over the place, mostly a general fic with a dash of hurt/comfort and a pinch of cultural comparisons to boot.

Work Text:

Two days into the crew of the Enterprise’s shore leave back on Terra, just as their chronometers clicked over to midnight on December 24th (per the Terran calendar), the power in San Francisco went out.

The entire Command Crew: Jim, Spock, McCoy, Sulu, Uhura, Scotty, and Chekov, had been on their way back from dinner at a restaurant/bar in the bay area when all the street lights went out instantaneously.

For a brief moment, everyone was thrown into a panic as most of them had never experienced a power outage before. But soon enough, it calmed down again and an Andorian woman started handing out real-burning wax candles, lots of them. The lady, Villero, handed a lit large one to Jim. To which he promptly shared with Enterprise’s Command Crew.

Within a few more minutes, they joined a local-based team of engineers in getting the power back up. Unfortunately, even with all the effort that everyone had pitched in, the power was still out. The only thing that they could do now was wait.

So all seven members of the Federation’s flagship’s Command Crew huddled around the tri-wick candle in an uneven circle tucked in a small space formed by the decorative pillars of a building. Eventually, over an hour later, the lights clicked back on: the power had returned to San Francisco.
