Work Header

Of Catnips and Strawberry Milk

Summary:

The daily life of cat Seonghwa, his owner Hong, and their language barrier.

Notes:

Hi! I was procrastinating in the shower when this plot popped into my head. I ignored the risk of my phone being submerged under water to write this… jk heh. By the way, I do not own a cat even though I desperately want to do so the cat behaviours described in this work is not going to be a reflection of the truth. This also applies to the characters inside this work.

Anyways, enjoy!

Chapter Text

Seonghwa stirred as he could hear the nature’s alarm aka the stupid birds chirping outside of the window. He tried turning left, right, and even diagonally to find another comfortable sleeping position but to no avail.

Stupid birds, one day I will bring you down, he mewed quietly to himself and it was as if the birds from outside the window could hear his complaint that they started chirping even louder.

Screw this shit, they will need to remove themselves from this tree today. He let out an angry mew as he formulated a plan inside his head. Maybe he could just fly out of the window to the tree to scare them off. But jumping from the window would only result in him falling flat to the ground, wasting one of his nine lives. Not a good plan. He should attack them from below instead since he cannot fly. Or maybe… he could throw something at them from the window, they must get the message that the branches were off limits.

Just as he was eyeing the flowers innocently situated on the table, he was lifted up from the floor. The stupid birds got him! They must have heard his plan to ward them off so they sent someone into his house to get rid of him first. Oh no. This would be the last moments of Seonghwa. His ears drooped, he took his comfort and safety for granted. He did not take his life goals to taste all kinds of fish seriously. He was gonna be taken away without getting to say goodbye.

“Hwa%^*^%##*+?”

As Seonghwa was waiting for his life to flash before his eyes, he heard a soft voice and felt a familiar touch patting his head while a gentle hand supported his middle.

“OH MY BASTET! It’s Hong!”

Seonghwa melted against Hong, his tail swirled softly. HA! Stupid birds! You’re gonna die now since Hong is here.

“##%*%#}}%%?”

“Hong! Get the birds! They woke me up, I don’t want them outside our window!” Seonghwa used one of his paws to point at the window. The birds were staring back at him tauntingly. Stupid creatures! You’ll know who’s the boss here.

“[}]#^*+^{%}**+##!”

Now that he told Hong, the birds will regret their life decisions that made them decide to sit on the branches right outside his window and made them chirp. Ha! Hong will use the flowers that Seonghwa was gonna use and throw it at the birds. Seonghwa already felt giddy and excited, his ears and tail moving slightly from anticipation.

But none of the actions that Seonghwa was expecting happened. Instead, he was brought further away from the window and he could feel Hong’s hold on him tightened. What’s happening? Was Hong scared?

“What’s wrong, Hong? Are you scared of the birds? Don’t worry! I’m here too! You’re not alone. If you’re too scared to chase the birds away yourself, just open the window and leave the rest to me!”

Seonghwa used his two paws to push himself up from Hong’s chest and looked up at Hong to search his face for any signs of distraught and fear. He wanted to reassure Hong that he was here and there was nothing to be scared of. Only to find Hong smiling and placing a gentle kiss on his forehead.

“Hwa ]**]%{%{*[*[%%]]}?”

“What? Are you telling me to just let them be?” Yea this was understandable. Hong was a gentle person. He would not want to hurt anything or anyone.

Fine. The stupid birds were lucky this time round. Seonghwa will overlook whatever they did for Hong’s sake. He looked at the birds over Hong’s shoulder and sent them the best glare that he could manifest before snuggling further into Hong’s warmth. If you stupid birds dare to pull this kind of stunts again, you’ll have it from me! Even Hong would not be able to stop me this time!

——

Hongjoong blindly roamed his hands around the side of his bed, searching for his personal ball of fluff only to find it empty. He slowly opened his eyes, squinting a little because of the sunlight shining in from the window of his bedroom. Once his eyes adjusted to the light, he looked around his bedroom.

The ball of fluff that he was looking for was staring intently but still gracefully at the window as if he was recharging its sparkles through the sun rays. Hongjoong smiled to himself as Seonghwa’s attention was focused on the window that Seonghwa did not realise that Hongjoong was awake. Normally Seonghwa would put one paw on his cheek to wake him up or he would either mew softly against Hongjoong’s ear.

Hongjoong quietly got out of bed and walked towards his cat. He stood behind Seonghwa to see what was outside the window that took all of Seonghwa’s attention. All he could see was a couple of birds on the branches right outside the window chirping happily to indicate the start of a new day. Is Seonghwa hungry or does he want to go outside or is he lonely? Hongjoong wondered. If Seonghwa was hungry or longing to go outside, he could help with that. However, if he was lonely… maybe Hongjoong will have to find more time to spend with his kitty. Hongjoong is a busy person, before he had Seonghwa, his house was just another storage place with a bed that he seldom returns to. After Seonghwa joined him, he found himself wanting to come home more often than before. Besides Seonghwa's well-being that he absolutely has to care for, he longed for the time that he spent just with Seonghwa laying on his lap as he read a book or listen to some music. In the end, Hongjoong found himself staying at home more as compared to before.

“Hwa, baby. Good morning. How was your sleep?”

Hongjoong asked his kitty after lifting him up into his arms.

“MEOW! Meowwwwwwwwww!”

Hongjoong smiled as he could see his kitty’s eyes lit up while looking back and forth between the window and Hongjoong’s face. Seonghwa must have had a good sleep.

“Are you hungry?”

“Meow! Meoooooooowwwww! Meowwwww!” Seonghwa lifted his front paw and, to Hongjoong, it looked like the paw was pointed towards the window. Hongjoong raised his eyebrows. Did he forget to feed his kitty last night? He must be so hungry that his instincts were kicking in and he was ready to hunt the birds from the trees. Hongjoong felt like hitting his head against the wall. He should not be this forgetful! He’s no longer living alone where he could just eat whenever he wants to. His poor kitty!

“I will feed you right now baby!”

Hongjoong tightened his hold on his precious kitty as he walked towards the kitchen. To his surprise, he heard Seonghwa mewing against his chest as if trying to tell him to not feel guilty about forgetting to feed him. He looked down his chest and met with two sparkling orbs. Seonghwa was using his two front paws to push himself up and Hongjoong just wanted to dig a hole and bury himself inside of it. What did he do last life to deserve such a baby? Hongjoong could no longer resist the ball of cuteness in his arms that he leaned down to place a kiss on his kitty’s head.

“Hwa baby. How can you be so precious?” It was just a rhetorical question that Hongjoong just randomly threw out but somehow Seonghwa must have thought that it should be answered. Hongjoong heard a few meows and purrs as Seonghwa head nuzzled further into Hongjoon’s warmth.

I think I need to get a camera tied on my head. I want to record all of these moments and rewatch them over and over again. Hongjoong thought to himself as he made a mental note to buy a handheld camera.
