POV: You're Watching All of These Guys Come In and Out of the Afro

Summary:

Tonight is the night.
You won yourself a date with one of the Elite Four of Sinnoh.
Flint, of the Elite Four, more specifically.
Now, instead of hearing fire puns before accepting the date, you get to hear fire puns through the date as well.
As far as hearing fire puns later tonight, that choice…is up to you.

(( Female POV Reader ))

Notes:

I've been so hyped for BDSP and i really wanted to give my boy some love again <3

I'm working on another self-insert/reader, but the style is different, so i also thought maybe i could test out another way of writing (plus im hella rusty sheeeeeit)

anyways, if you couldn't imagine it and needed a little help, here's a little glimpse into what it would be like to be on a date with Flint of the Elite Four.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Reflect

Chapter Text

You jostle the frills on your flouncy skirt against your thighs and stretch your mini jacket across your back so that it no longer feels like its restricting your shoulders. Your body seems to heave a nervous sigh of relief after the minor wardrobe readjustments

Although he doesn’t seem like a guy who would notice the small details like a strand of hair out of place or a piece of food in your teeth, you’re still nervous and want to be presentable.

Standing at the door of his house, you take another moment to compose yourself and relax. You take note of the pretty flowers and some of the shrubbery, but you also couldn’t help but notice what seemed to be movement above – right where a window was.

You don’t want to come off as being nosy - so you make it a point not to stare – but glance to briefly confirm that it was just your eyes playing tricks on you. Besides, you couldn’t remember what position the curtains were in before you walked up.

However, even though you may have dismissed what you didn’t see, you cannot so easily dismiss the strange sound that seems to be emitting from the door as a sheen of light glistened quickly over it from top to bottom. You stare incredibly hard this time, waiting for something else to happen so you can either properly chalk it up to your imagination again, or confirm that something weird was amiss.

Although something weird was amiss, you chalk it up to your imagination.

Anyways.

Refocusing on commencing your date, you draw a deep breath, close your eyes, and let out any anxiety you are holding by exhaling it from your lungs and open your eyes.

You’re ready to light up the night.

But not before rolling your eyes at such a corny and cliched affirmation.

Anyways.

Right as you muster up the courage to raise your hand and knock on the door, you hear what sounds to be some obscure yelling and some fumbling as the voice draws closer to the door. You can’t quite make out what all was being said, but it was apparent that whoever was yelling – presumably your date – wanted to make sure there was no funny business.

You found it rather strange and became slightly disappointed that you two wouldn’t be spending the evening alone together.

Anywho, you get ready to knock but the door flies open first before you could make the motion.

“Well hello- OOOF!”

Much to your shock and surprise, you witness your date looking equally surprised as he seems to be frozen in mid greet with his face smushed against the..air?

It was like he was frozen in midair, or to be better described, as if he was pressed against a glass pane that wasn’t visible to the human eye. As you behold the strange sight before you, you catch the sheen of light again – the invisible glass pane gave an iridescent glint as it held your date against gravity.

You two acknowledge each other in this split moment despite his face being contorted awkwardly against the air, but only before the invisible pane of force gave a final glint before disappearing - relinquishing your date from its hold.

During his descent to the ground, your raised fist catches his face and you inadvertently knock his nose instead of the door, possibly giving him a nosebleed.

“Ahhhh..man..” Flint whimpers as he picks himself up from the ground, holding his face.

“I am so sorry, are you okay?” you gasp, worried about injury.

Flint notices your concerned expression and reassures you with a toothy grin and slightly reddened nose.

“Oh, this? Don’t even worry about it. Shit happens, ya know?”

As far as your knowledge goes, this kind of shit doesn’t just happen, but you let it go since Flint seems to be okay.

As Flint dismissed the incident with a wave of his hand, you definitely couldn’t dismiss the movement in the window this time since you absolutely saw the curtains move again. Also, Flint confirmed your suspicions when he gave the window a glare. You couldn’t help but inquire about the curious events that have been transpiring one after another.

“Um, is everything okay?”

“Oh yeah yeah, everything’s fine. I just uh, the house is kind of drafty and the curtains pick it up quite easily.” Flint explained while giving his cheek a quick scratch – almost as if he just thought of it on the spot but you don’t read into it so deeply since it was highly plausible.

He was looking away in thought as he gave his explanation, but once finished, his eyes finds their way to yours. You can feel your face flush with a little heat; his thoughtful eyes were obviously looking for confirmation whether or not you bought that story, and you couldn’t help but smile when he smiled back at your acceptance.

“Well, *ahem* why dontcha come on in? Make yourself comfy.” Flint invites you in, extending his arm forward to show you the way.
