Work Text:
Hey Hubert,
So, I made it back to Derdriu. The city's really pretty when it’s not under siege, who knew? It’s so hot here, even though when the wind blows in from the sea, it’s cold. With it being so sunny, you’d think to dress down, right? And yet, I saw the strangest guy during lunch (they've got some crazy spices here from all the trade routes, you gotta visit some time—if the sun doesn't set you on fire, the flavors will get you instead). He was decked out in black from head to toe, lurking in the back of the pub. I don’t think he even ordered anything! We met eyes, like in the north when someone wants to start something (I wrote about that before, right? That barman had a mean right hook!), but he glanced away real quick for someone that looks like they’d jump you in a back alley.
Then I remembered I’d seen him before! It was a while ago, and he was some runt you were talking to back in Enbarr. Don’t tell me you’ve sent out a rookie spy to keep tabs on me! I can handle myself just fine without you pulling all your strings, man!
Although… it is kinda nice, I guess, that you're making sure I’m all right so far from home. Okay, so if I’m worth looking out for, at least do me the decency of sending someone who knows what they’re doing! That way I won’t know and can’t get mad, you weasel!
Regards,
Caspar (Bench Presses 4 of You) von Bergliez
Dear Caspar,
Your accusations are baseless in nature and, should there be a spy in my employ in Derdriu, they've certainly failed their assignment. I'm afraid everyone starts out green.
As often with the arrival of your letters, I am pleased to know you are well and enjoying your tour. Derdriu sounds woefully unpleasant, but I will pass your suggestion to visit along to the prime minister. We both know he's the kind of man to enjoy it.
Speaking of the east, however, I hear rumors of some unsettling business out that way with possible connections to our slithering friends. If you were curious, you'd have to travel further, into Almyra, but it occurs to me that you've been meaning to see outside Fódlan's borders for some time. The Emperor has already sent her approval to the Locket, should passing through strike your fancy.
Safe travels,
Hubert von Vestra, Minister of the Imperial Household
