everyday, hu tao seemed to wake up, blessed, to the most beautiful sight ever. they're always rethinking just how they got here, being able to hold a pretty girl in their arms and kiss her to sleep, its the sapphic dream and hu tao was living it to the fullest.
they and their lover, yanfei, had always had a decent sleep schedule. making sure to finish any pending tasks before 8pm, eating dinner at 8:30, and finally sleeping at 9. both ladies worked daily 9-5 jobs on weekdays and needed a good night's rest, one of them sometimes taking sleeping pills for the most stressful of days to ensure proper rest.
though, today had broken this perfect sleep record for the couple, as they had to stay up all night for a workplace emergency which turned out to be a very long lived false alarm. they eventually fell asleep at 6 in the morning, only waking up 12 hours later at 6 in the evening. their workplace allowed them to take a few days off to collect themselves after the night filled with never-ending panic and anxiety, so hu tao and yanfei decided they would give up on their schedule for a little.
when yanfei woke up first before hu tao, she realized the time and dragged her girlfriend out of bed to make use of the time left of the day, the couple's black and white cat, innie, following them around the house. it was the start of december and yanfei had some festive ideas in mind, such as cookie baking and decorating, hanging up christmas lights, and slow dancing to winter songs. slow dancing was the couple's favorite holiday activity, often doing it at random times of the year such as march or july.
innie always enjoyed watching her owners dance around and enjoy themselves, the cat herself often purring to the music being played. basically, everyone in the yantao household liked and supported slow dancing to wintery music, regardless of what time of the year it was.
"yanyan where are we going.." hu tao mumbled sleepily, stuffing their head into their oversized shirt, looking like a ghost with a lot of abnormal edges and limbs. yanfei hummed, going in every direction possible at this point. she brought hu tao in front of her, putting her hands on their shoulders, guiding them to the kitchen counter. she had already kept some materials out the day before, the set up going unnoticed to her (literally blind) lover.
yanfei pulled hu tao's shirt from over their head and back to how it should be worn, brushing frantic strands of hair away from their face to press a kiss to their temple. hu tao rubbed their eyes and blinked a few times, adjusting to the overly bright lights in the couple's kitchen. innie joined the two on the counter, jumping onto hu tao's lap then jumping onto the counter, making her way to nap in an empty fruit bowl. the lovers had noticed a few months ago that their cat often pushed all the fruits out of their fruit bowls to nap in it, so they started leaving an empty one solely for innie to sleep in.
hu tao watched the cat do this as they do every morning, then shifting their attention to the cookie making supplies all spread out in front of them. yanfei took a seat beside them and started showing them the cookies they'd be making: snowman marshes, as she liked to call them.
they were christmas cookies with a snowman on them made out of marshmallows, icing, candy and fondant clay. hu tao looked at the examples of how the cookies should look like with excitement, picking up the correct ingredients for the cookie dough.

the couple was half way through making the cookie dough when hu tao decided it was appropriate to taste test the raw dough, taking the mixing spoon and licking a tiny portion of it. yanfei noticed them doing this, and quietly picked up a measuring cup half full of flour, standing behind and almost next to her love. when hu tao turned to look at her, she threw the flour onto them, making sure the powder doesnt get into their eyes.
hu tao jumped and stood still in the surprised position for a good few seconds, just blinking and taking in what just got thrown onto them. they stuck their tongue out and licked the powder, tasting it to identify what it was, only to stick their tongue back out in disgust.
yanfei was giggling like a broken record at the sight, which stopped only to be replaced by a small yelp when they felt someone throw themselves onto her and pulling her into a hug. she felt flour on her, and powdery lips on her cheeks, bombarding her in kisses. yanfei's giggling continued as her girlfriend covered her in their affection.
"you're insufferable" hu tao said in between kisses, then putting their head on her shoulder. "its your turn to be covered in cooking ingredients" they said, words muffled by her shoulder.
"i'm insufferable but you give me kisses for it?" yanfei laughed. hu tao propped their chin on her shoulder
"you're insufferably pretty, do you know how hard it is to resist from covering you in endless amounts of kisses when you look like this 24/7?"
yanfei was quiet for the rest of the time they spent baking the cookies.

it was now 9pm, the couple had finished making, decorating and eating their snowman marsh cookies, and were now doing their own thing in the living room.
hu tao had fallen asleep with innie nuzzled into their neck, their arms lightly holding innie like a newborn child. yanfei found this sight a sickly adorable one, absolutely in love with how much her lover resembled their cat. they shared so many similar traits, so many that yanfei would get tired of listing them all.
yanfei was listening to music softly while reading a book about two sisters who unveil the truths of their horrible school, quietly singing the lyrics as the songs played one after another.
"is it my fault if i'm not good at expressing? i'm a warm girl in a cold city"
"can't i just tell you i like you? i just want to be honest"
"go away, no don't go away"
"show me your heart, no don't show it to me"
"all day, only your smile is in my head"
"do you wanna just go out?"
yanfei felt someone push her book out of her hands and pull her up from the couch, leading her in a dance.
"starting from today, i'm gonna have something with you" her lover, hu tao, sang along, leading the somewhat slow dance.
"i'm gonna call you everyday" yanfei continued
"even though i can't eat gluten,"
"i'm gonna go around eating delicious food with you"
"so so sweet, you're really so sweet"
