Takemichi was having a day. Mikey had figured out to get out of his harness and was off chasing a blue jay. The good news is that Mikey never strayed that far from Takemichi. The bad news is that Mikey loved to play keep away. The only way to get him back in Takemichi’s arms is to use his stern voice. Which Takemichi isn’t very good at using he fully admits. He just never liked the sad face his precious puppy would give him after he used it.
Either way, Takemichi was chasing Mikey in the thankfully enclosed dog park. He needed to grab Mikey and get home if he was going to make it in time for his shift. Takemichi watched in real time as Mikey’s attention was diverted from the blue jay to something else. Because the long blonde hair of his normally sweet Yorkie was flying in the wind in another direction.
“Mikey!” Takemichi shouted, running towards the dog.
He had to stop and catch his breath realizing he should definitely work out more. Takemichi heard a small yip and Mikey was there with a toy that wasn’t his. It was a chew toy shaped to look like his favorite bag of potato chips.
Takemichi's eyes softened., “Were you bringing me my favorite snack? That’s very sweet of you Mikey.” He mumbled softly reaching out to pick up the yorkie who immediately snuggled up to him. Takemichi took the opportunity to snap the leash onto his dog's collar.
“Now which poor dog did you bully to get that toy Mikey?” Takemichi asked, bringing the dog up to his face and touching their noses together.
“I didn’t bully any dog. But that toy does belong to my Micchi.” A voice said and Takemichi whirled around to be faced with a man a few inches shorter than him with short black hair. Hiding behind the man’s leg was a tricolored corgi.
“I’m so sorry about Mikey!” Takemichi bowed in apology but Mikey was just squirming trying to get out of his arms. Takemichi sat him down and straightened back up. The man had a slight smile but his dark brown eyes held mirth.
“So I heard right, your little rat is named Mikey?”
Takemichi took offense to that, “He isn’t a rat.”
Mikey barked in agreement but his attention was on the corgi that he was chasing around both of their legs, not that the two humans noticed that they were focusing on each other. The man laughed again and Takemichi wanted to know why he was laughing.
“My name is Sano Manjirou but my friends call me Mikey.” The man, er, Mikey introduced himself. What a coincidence that he shared a name with his beloved yorkie.
“My name is Hanagaki Takemichi.” Takemichi said, rubbing the back of his head.
“Takemicchi.” Mikey said, “Just like my little Micchi.”
“Takemichi.” Takemichi repeated when Mikey said his name wrong.
“Right, Takemicchi.”
Takemichi was pretty sure it was time to leave.
“I’m sorry again for my Mikey. Have a good—“ Takemichi went to take a step backwards but was hit with the leash that tilted him forward causing him to fall into Mikey.
Both of them fell on the ground causing both of the dogs to jump on both of them and give them kisses. Takemichi had a cute corgi in his arms and it was so happy to be there that he couldn’t find the heart to set him down. He continued to pet the Corgi, not paying attention to the surroundings. He did hear a snap of what sounded like a camera then a growl.
“Ow! You little rat.” Both Micchi and Takemichi looked at the Mikey’s who were glaring at each other, the human one holding their phone out of the way as the yorkie jumped for it.
Micchi whined causing yorkie Mikey to stop what he was doing and come over to console the corgi.
“It looks like they like each other.” Takemichi muses out loud.
“It does.” Mikey settled on the ground next to Takemichi, both of their legs still tangled in the leash. “We should go on a date!” Mikey said, eyes closed, smiling at Takemichi.
Takemichi flailed in surprise, “What!?”
“A playdate for the dogs.” Oh that’s what Mikey meant, “it could also be a play date for us.”
Takemichi tried to stand up in surprise but forgot about the leash causing him to fall down again. This time he landed in between Mikey’s legs, hands on his chest. He flushed red and was frozen with embarrassment. Mikey just grinned at him,
“Well you move fast.” Mikey snarked.
That got Takemichi moving, finally untangling the leash and standing up. Mikey just smirked up at him, still splayed provocatively on the ground. Takemichi swallowed hard and shook his hair out of his face.
“Right. I will be going now, have a good day.” Takemichi bid Mikey goodbye and then did what he did best…run. Thankfully Yorkie Mikey was attached to the leash by his collar and with a small tug trotted off after his owner looking back sadly at the corgi with something yellow in his mouth.
Once they got back home Takemichi collapsed to the ground and covered his face with his hands. Why was he such an embarrassment? Mikey whined at him pushing something up against the leg. Takemichi peeked through his fingers to see the yellow toy potato chip bag that started this whole thing.
“Oh Mikey, you can’t just take other dogs' toys and now I’m complicit in your thievery.” Takemichi picked up the yorkie, cuddling him to his chest. “We will have to return it.”
Oh no .
“We will have to return it.” Takemichi whispered in horror at the thought of the corgi's owner.
“We are home.” Mikey called out, slipping his flip flops off and putting his house slippers on.
Trudging into his house where Micchi was waiting patiently by his bowl for dinner. Mikey pulled out the mashed sweet potato and cut up chicken. Only the best for his beloved corgi.
“You spoiled that dog.” Emma said coming into the kitchen.
“Being jealous of a dog is so embarrassing.” Mikey replied putting the food into the bowl. Micchi waited until Mikey gave the signal to eat and then the dog's only focus was food.
“What has you so happy?” Emma asked with a skeptical look on his face.
“I found a stray I was thinking of making mine.” He said happily while crouched down watching Micchi eat.
“Not another dog Mikey please.” Emma groaned leaving the kitchen.
Mikey reached out to run a hand down Micchis flank while he pictured the cute guy he saw today.
“Takemicchi huh? Maybe I’ll run into you again.” Mikey mused, his phone then rang interrupting his train of thought. He went to answer his phone and the picture of the cute guy and his cute Micchi were still on the screen.
Cute.
“Yo~” He answered his phone after a second of staring at the phone screen.
“What took you so long to answer?” Draken said gruffly into the receiver.
“Was looking at something more interesting than a phone conversation.” Mikey responded standing up after one more good pat on MIcchi.
“Right, you do remember you’re needed tonight for the meeting.” Draken reminded Mikey and the man groaned.
“Ken-chin I don’t wanna.” He whined flopping onto the couch in a faux tantrum. Micchi padded over and hopped onto the couch to comfort his owner.
“They wanted to see the commander, that’s not me.”
Mikey should’ve disbanded Toman when they were younger. Then he wouldn’t have to run a criminal organization, he could be lounging at his family’s dojo and fixing bikes with Draken.
“Fine.” Mikey growled into the phone and started carding his finger in Micchi’s fur. Tugging out the large ears, Micchi let out a soft growl and Mikey was reminded of the other Micchi.
“But leave my morning free tomorrow, I have something to do.”
Mikey didn’t wait for Draken to answer, he just hung up his phone and curled around the corgi so they could take a nap.
The next day found Mikey waking up earlier than he normally would. He wanted to make sure he looked presentable, if he ran into Takemichi he wanted to make sure that he got his number. Mikey even dressed up his little Micchi in a matching shirt that Mitsuya made for them. Mikey leashed Micchi up but it was only so they wouldn’t get into trouble. Micchi was trained well and responded to all of his commands, with a sharp whistle Micchi was already heeling and they made their way to the dog park.
Mikey hadn’t seen any bratty yorkies and cute owners yet. While waiting for Takemichi to hopefully show up he threw the ball a couple of times for Micchi. He didn’t want to seem desperate, he was, so he decided he would only stay until Micchi would tire himself out. Nevermind, the dog when not napping had boundless energy so who knows how long he will be out here.
Mikey checked the watch on his wrist and noted that thirty minutes had passed. Micchi had just brought back the ball and he picked it up, flicking it far. He watched the fluffy but of his corgi run when a blonde flash came out of nowhere tackling the corgi to the ground.
“Mikey! No roughhousing!” There it was, the voice of an angel.
Mikey turned towards Takemichi who had tears in the corner of his eyes calling at his dog.
“Takemicchi you have returned!” Mikey called out waving at the other dog owner.
Takemichi turned to him a familiar yellow toy in his hand. Oh, they didn’t bring that home yesterday did they. Mikey is surprised Micchi didn’t throw a fit; it's his favorite toy.
“Mikey-kun! You’re here, that's good.” Takemichi exclaimed, trotting over to him.
“Oh, were you hoping to run into me again? It would be easier for you if we just exchanged numbers.” Mikey didn’t understand not being aggressive when he wants something. Especially not with the way Takemichi blushed so prettily.
“N-no that’s not it, I mean maybe, I just.” Takemichi stuttered trying to get out a sentence before throwing the toy at Mikey, “Mikey took it home with him, I’m so sorry.”
Mikey hummed, “You can pay me back by grabbing coffee with me today. Micchi had me up early to take him for his walk.” What a lie, it was definitely the opposite.
Takemichi nodded his head, “Yeah, yeah, I can do that.” Was all he could get out before the blonde flash that took out his Micchi just took out Takemichi.
Mikey looked at the scene below him and wondered how often this happened to Takemichi. Crouching down he stared at the scene between the dog and the owner. It seemed like the yorkie was scenting Takemichi and looking back at Mikey with a smug look. If Mikey wasn’t such a good person he would fight this dog. Instead he reached his hand out towards Takemichi.
“Need a hand up?” He asked and Takemichi took his hand. Mikey pulled both of them up with a small grunt.
Micchi ran up to them and started whining when he saw the potato chip toy in his other hand.
“So coffee?” Mikey asked, squeezing the hand that was still holding onto Takemichi’s hand.
Takemichi smiled brightly at him, squeezing the hand back, “Coffee.”
Mikey looked up at his owner and the other human that had his name talking and drinking coffee.
Mikey gave a small bark towards Micchi, “Told you the plan would work. You doubted me.”
The corgi curled himself tighter around the yorkie, his small paw swinging out but was too short to reach the corgi’s face. Letting out a huff the corgi just let his head fall back down, “Yeah, yeah Mikey. I’m taking a nap. Humans talking is boring.”
The yorkie pushed the corgi into his preferred snuggling position before settling himself down. That human better not hurt Takemichi's feelings while he is sleeping.
