Work Text:

"Don't make me do this man, I'll break my ass!"

"It's fine! It's not that hard, Tommy."

A brunette guardian leads a raccoon hybrid towards a frozen pond in the enchanted forest.

"I'll fucking snap my neck and it'll be your fault!" Tommy protests, but keeps on following Deo as he snuggles further into the warm clothes the older has given him. His blonde raccoon ears were covered with some smartly crafted ear muffs

"That's literally impossible, sunshine.." The fairy chuckles, turning to look at the blonde.

"You don't know that, because it's never happened to you." The younger pouts in response, crossing his arms in fake bother.

"Come on, Toms.." Deo's voice grows softer, hand reaching to his santa hat to pull it down a little to his elf ears.

"You said you'd do anything to make me feel better after I shed." He sounds forcefully whiny at the end, almost making himself laugh.

The shedding wasn't that bad. He could finally wear the hat again, and there was no extra weight on his head.. Deo almost felt like a normal kid again.

Tommy whines in annoyance.

"Okay fine! Don't talk like that again."

Deo makes sure to remember to talk like that again if he ever wants something.

They arrive at the pond quite quickly with no trouble. The frozen pond is surrounded by snowy bushes and birch trees. Surely, this area must have looked a bit more magical before it got covered in snow.

"Okay, so." The fairy clasps his hands together. "Raise your foot, Tommy."

"Why?"

"Just do it."

Hesitant, Tommy does indeed raise his foot. Deo kneels down, hands hovering over the blonde's shoe.

"You're so weird." Tommy says jokingly, swaying a little bit. His balance was thrown off a little bit.

The brunette lets out a giggle. He works in silence, waving his hands around a little, until golden, and orange sparks fly out. They surround both of Tommy's shoes, raising him, and forming sparkly blades on the bottom of the shoes.

"Woah woah, what the fuck!" Tommy yelps, his balance totally disturbed from the thin blades sticking from his feet.

"Since when can you do that?"

The older boy laughs, giving his own shoes a pair of skater blades. The fairy dust twinkles softly.

"It's just easy magic, Tommy." He explains with a shrug, smiling when Tommy's surprised expression doesn't leave his face.

"Come on!" Deo suddenly grabs one of the raccoon boy's hands, carefully leading him towards the icy pond.

"I'll teach you."

Tommy staggers comically despite being led, and guided. It only makes him hold onto the brunette's hand tighter.

Deo is the first one to step on the ice first. It was thick enough to carry both of them, and more, too, he guessed. He carefully pulls the younger forward, successfully getting him on the cold surface as well.

The blonde's legs are stiff. He's obviously unwilling to move, too afraid something will happen to him.

"Fuck you, I'm not doing this. This was a mistake." It's barely visible, but his ears flatten under the ear muffs. The cold feels like it's intensifying, turning his cheeks and nose red. That might as well have been simple embarrassment though.

Deo's wings give a few soft twinkles. They warm up with gentle movements, so they don't freeze in place, despite being powered by their owner's magic.

"I promise you'll be okay, I'll make sure you won't get hurt. You trust me, don't you?" The older tilts his head a little. Worryingly enough, he sounds.. A little unsure.

But Tommy is quick to dismiss his worries.

"Of course I do, dickhead!" His voice quivers a little, like his legs suddenly are. The blonde always swears a lot more when he's nervous.

"Good." Deo smiles.

"Hold- Just hold my hands. It's all about balance."

As he says that, he slides his feet back a little, dragging the raccoon boy along, who is still very much stiff, and unwilling to move.

Deo continues that movement, giving Tommy a sense of familiarity with the patterns he's moving in.

With an unsure hum, Tommy relaxes his legs a little, and starts moving his feet a little bit as well. The movement is unsure, and shaky, but it's better than letting himself be dragged along.

"There you go!" The brunette cheers as he notices.

"You're getting the hang of it, sunshine."

He speeds up a tiny bit. The younger's clawed hands grip onto the fairy's tender hands tighter in response.

"Ohh pause! Pause! I'm overwhelmed!" The blonde whines, making Deo come to a slow halt. Before he can make sure his sun is alright, Tommy blurts out with a blush on his face:

"Why don't you just fucking show me how it's done, ay? But I'm gonna laugh at you if you snap your neck."

Deo chuckles wholeheartedly. Tommy's endeavours really amuse him.

"Wow, okay, Tommy. Sit back and watch."

Tommy in fact does not sit, but keeps standing.

With a gentle smile, Deo moves his feet again, moving gracefully along the frozen surface, leaving a faint trail of fairy dust behind. He occasionally looks at Tommy, but he focuses on the action at hand most of the time.

He circles around the blonde, spinning and turning as if the ice was a natural place for him.

Finally, Deo picks up speed. His wings twinkle and flutter, before he leaps off the freezing ground. The magical wings break out of their sleeping state for a second, leaving the older afloat long enough to make another graceful spin.

He nails the landing, and speeds up towards the younger teen, before halting right in front of him by tilting his feet in such a way that the side of the skater blades brush against the ice, grinding it, and spraying snow all over Tommy's pants. His wings are tucked away once again, snuggled against his coat, quickly going back into 'sleep' state.

Deo comes out of the relaxed mind set. He really did feel at peace there; spinning, and turning with such ease and grace that he almost felt free.

It reminded him of better times, back when Tia would take him to this exact pond to ice skate.

He finally notices Tommy, and he can't help but laugh once again.

The hybrid is staring at him with wide, ocean eyes, and jaw open so wide he was surprised it didn't hurt him.

"What?" He says, some laughter still in his voice.

Tommy goes red once again.

"You show off!" He curses, making a move to push the brunette, but all it does is push both of them slightly back thanks to the slippery surface. Deo expected this, and was quick to grasp the blonde's forearms, surely saving him from a fall.

"You told me to!" He giggles softly, silently gushing over the fact that Tommy held onto him again.

He wouldn't let the boy fall, ever.

"Fine, geez!" The raccoon hybris scoffs, straightening quite swiftly. He's gained some confidence from simply watching the fairy be all graceful on the ice.

"You're gonna teach me all of that, right now."

Tommy ended up falling a lot of times. He stumbled all over the place, legs tangling into each other at any given moment. Deo tries his best to assist the blonde, but he can't help but laugh whenever the boy faceplants into the ice.

It starts snowing at some point too. But they keep going, Tommy wants to.

The younger blonde managed to skate in a straight line with Deo holding his hand, but then, he managed to do a circle all by himself.

The boys' hair is decorated with snowflakes by the time Tommy feels good enough about his progress, and they quit for the rest of the day. The frozen surface became hard to ice skate on anyway from all the snow.

The guardian took his best friend back to the house that they shared now.

"You did great today, sunshine." The older brunette smiles, wrapping an arm around Tommy, who's snuggled under a warm blanket that smelled like fresh flowers.

As a raccoon hybrid, he's in a very relaxed mindset. The winter is cold; cold wind disturbing the quiet, and snow pilling up around the forest, but the fairy's home is very warm, making his thoughts fuzzy.

"Shut up.." He manages to mutter.

At last, Tommy falls asleep, resting against his friend, who would protect him from anything, even harmless ice lakes.
