Bruno felt his nerves were on fire, he forever regretted teasing Pepa on her day. His tuxedo was crisply ironed and the embroidery neatly stitched not a thread out of place. Still despite it all seeming to be well he still felt nervous. There was still a rock in his stomach worrying about what ifs, he could always look into the future but he didn’t want to risk ruining his mood so he decided to tap wood and throw salt over his shoulder to calm his nerves.
“Uncle Bruno?” Mirabel entered the room holding a small arrangement of flowers. Bruno could only smile at his niece. She’d made her dress herself. It was purple embroidered with butterflies. She’d grown up so fast .
“Yes Mira?”
“I brought you some flowers but I also think you want to talk.” She said, handing him the flowers with a smile. “You seemed worried.” Bruno could only chuckled and nod.
“Yes I am, I worry about making a fool of myself and if I’m the right person for Matteo with my gift.” Bruno chuckled out as his niece looked at him in disbelief.
“Uncle Bruno!” She pushed her glasses up as she began listing. “Number one you could never make a fool out of yourself, two Matteo looks at you like you’ve raised the sun, the moon and stars you deserve him. You deserve to be happy. Three he’s lucky he’s marrying a Madrigal so he’s the lucky one! Four your Bruno the uncle who’s best at keeping secrets, taming the rodents and the knower of all things magical so he should count himself lucky.” She stated as she tapped her finger as she made each statement making Bruno’s heart swell.
“When did you get so smart?”
“Since I had an uncle at my side to teach me.” Bruno could only smile and hug his niece. His niece fixed his tie as she left. He took a deep breath and left his room.
Walking out he spotted Matteo’s nephew who was eyeing him.
“So you’re the infamous Bruno.” The teen hummed.
“Yes, you must be Alberto, it’s nice you could come.” Alberto hummed again before offering a hand shake.
“Likewise… I just want to thank you… Uncle was never as happy as he is here with you… Just keep him safe, ok.” Bruno pulled the boy into a hug.
“I will and I’ll try to do the same with you, you’re part of my family now too.” The teen nodded and reciprocated the hug. Bruno relaxed as he petted the boy’s hair down. He pulled away as he looked him in the eyes.
“I need to ask, do you know?” He asked the implications being clear. Bruno nodded and smiled.
“I know and don’t worry, my family were informed and accepted him and you, all of you.” Alberto nodded and smiled.
“Good, I’m glad. Thank you Bruno…” The teen ran off leaving Bruno with a small smile.
He walked out of the room and soon he was being led to the church with his sisters and mom at his side as they walked. The doors usually seemed daunting, but today they seemed less so which gave him something less to worry about. He threw some salt over his shoulder and hoped for the best as he held his breath.
The doors opened and the music started and he felt free. Everyone was smiling as he walked down the aisle. First his sisters left his side and sat with their families then his Mamá stopped at the edge of the stairs. He looked back and she smiled at him.
“It’s ok.” She mouthed, he felt his tears brim as he nodded ascending the stairs to his love. He took his hand and smiled.
“You look stunning Bruno.” Matteo whispered, bringing a small flush to Bruno’s face as he nodded.
“You look like a dream too.” He whispered as the priest began his speech.
For what felt like days they stood there surrounded by their loved ones as they exchanged rings and vows to each other. With each act it affirmed his love for the man in front of him. He knew that he was his soulmate and his life would be perfect with him. The priest soon came to the end of his speech as he declared.
“You may now kiss the groom!” And Bruno did with all his heart and soul. He would love this man unconditionally.
