The month of December was surprisingly lax in Sinnoh. The Pokémon League had allowed a two-week break on challenging gyms so trainers could go home and celebrate with their families, since it took a while for those without Fly to head back home.
For most Trainers, it gave a sense of peacefulness, as the pressure of getting all the Gyms in time was stalled for some well-deserved rest. For Volkner, however, this break brought on a sense of anxiety. Namely…
“Volkner! Sweetheart!”
...What his boyfriend Flint would force him to do this year.
The gym leader sighed, mentally preparing himself for what the Elite Four Member had planned for their break this time. Last year, Flint forced him to go skiing with him.
It took half of Flint’s fire Pokémon to thaw him out after skiing straight into an ice lake because he decided the main path was “boring”.
The Electric Gym Leader sighed, preparing for the absurdity. Flint rushed over to him in no time since the gym was deactivated for the day. Without hesitation, the two shared a chaste kiss before pulling away.
“Hey Volkner,” Flint began, a spark in his eyes, “You wanna go ice-skating this year?”
Volkner mentally cringed at the idea. His mother took him out ice skating once, and while he wasn’t terrible, he doesn’t really like going there.
He was about to say as much, until he noticed the hope glimmering in Flint’s eyes. Damnit, he was never good at resisting when his boyfriend looked at him like that. He sighed, it’s just for a day, right?
“Sure,” he requited, Flint’s eyes gleaming as he agreed. Something tells him it’ll be a long day indeed.
XoXo
It was a long day when they finally went out. They went to a small lake that had been completely frozen over, and trainers of all kinds were taking a spin on the ice. Slipping on skates that they bought earlier, Volkner and Flint took their first glide onto the ice…
And Flint melted through the ice in an instant.
Volkner shouldn’t be surprised, he really shouldn’t. The man insisted on warming up by his Fire Pokémon before leaving, and apparently, all that excess heat melted the ice.
What did surprise him was when he fell onto the ice by his skates, which were moving on their own. Right, of course. Volkner got bored, like he always was, and fiddled with his skates before Flint arrived.
The skates ended up cutting so much into the ice, the lake fractured and everyone had to go home.
Volkner and Flint, (the latter being really cold), discreetly left in shame.
…It almost embarrassed the Electric Gym Leader how excited he was for next year.
