Work Text:
The warm ray of morning light peeked itself from the window. It lands on the glass pitcher by the night stand making it glow. The Engineer have awoken earlier than usual, the lights disturbed him a little. His eyes were half open and he refused to move any limbs at this time. Despite how he just woken up he's already thinking about the coming matches. The fights he's daydreaming about are ferocious and that's how he likes it. Dell quite enjoys the thrill of his job. His eyes were lightly shut thinking about it, he tried to map out what he'll do today until the realization struck him. It was a Sunday.
As much as he likes the adrenaline to surge through his body, he's glad it was a free day. He needs the rest. God, he's getting old, he used to have energy that lasts a month.
The Engineer, lying on his back and fiddling his metal fingers, took a deep sigh from the string of thought. It's too early to be overthinking, better to stop before the tired mind comes up with something else. He wanted to check the time but he had no will yet to do it. You see, this is how it is to drift away from your slumber too soon. It's just a huge debate whether to rise up or wait until your body is active. In this case? The Engineer chose the latter.
The bed made a slight movement, Engie raised an eyebrow as he turned to look to his left where the shuffling came from.
Oh shit he forgot the BLU Spy was with him.
Engineer then noticed he wasn't even in his own room. Hell, he doesn't even think he's in his own base. What he assumed to be Spy's room feels a lot cooler than his own. His eyes wandered around to check where he was.
And yep, his hunch was right.
This is the enemy Spy's room and he is not in the RED base. If they get caught by anyone, it's not going to end well.
Although, he didn't worry at all, he just knows that he's a great escape artist (learnt from the best) and Spy doesn't let anyone barge into his sleeping quarters. For one, the BLU Spy isn't close with his own teammates, and secondly, he saw how secured the door is. Unlike his own team Spy, the RED isn't as private as the BLU.
It feels rather odd, Spy's neat, and elegant room contrasts his usual warm, tool-clattered working space. Though, Dell doesn't hate it, he likes the look of the organized books and belongings on the shelves, the fancy woodwork with carvings that's not too pretentious and not too kitschy, the smooth night stand with the pitcher that woke him up, and a few paintings hanging on the wall.
The painting with the fruit basket really catches Engie's eyes.
"What a beaut." he didn't notice he said it out loud.
Spy did mention that most of the paintings are just copies. Well no one can blame him, though. They are all in the middle of a battleground, so he can't risk getting the originals destroyed by the minigun from the RED Heavy. Oh, who was he kidding? Spy can't even trust his own teammates. The amount of times they trashed their own base experimenting with ammo is absurd.
He stopped eyeing in the painting and shifted to the man lying next to him. The Spy is a dangerous person and here he is deep in sleep, lightly snoring next to Engineer, and he looks so peaceful. Whatever did Dell do to tame him like this? It still baffles him how Spy wants to slither in his arms and he just lets it happen.
The Engineer examined the man who was supposed to be his enemy. The Spy lies on his side facing away from the Engineer. By God, his bare back alone sure is making Engie's face flush up. That balaclava always stays on, you can strip Spy down to nothing for the exception of keeping the mask on. Not that it's a problem, Dell doesn't mind if he doesn't know what Spy looks like. They're still on rival teams and he respects the anonymity.
Right now, Engineer is just mesmerized with the steady breathing from the Frenchman. Dell smiled softly examining Spy's scarred backside. Whatever happened to you, Snake?
It's ironic now how Spy was the one who usually faces Dell's back, may it be in battle or not. Even after all that trouble the Spy caused, Engie is well adoring the view of that charming trickster. Hell, everything about him was beautiful. That handsome smile, those green eyes that witnessed a thousand stories, that elegant dark complexion he doesn't always see, the slender yet sturdy build, and that tongue of his which seems as if it knows how to use every word. Just everything about him can make anyone swoon over him.
Not to mention, the most important part, those hands of his. Oh they can be tools of silent murder or anyone's most passionate experience. Those skilled, slender hands feel absolutely smooth and pleasuring against Dell's skin (of course when they're not trying to kill each other). Whenever Spy massages Engie to soothe his aching body after a long day of hauling machinery, it's almost as if that's his reward. The fingers move so smoothly against his tense muscles, he just melts at Spy's touch. Those magic hands are something anyone would want to crave for.
Consider him a lucky man. The espionage agent may have seduced hundreds of people but his heart only ever called out to three, and one of them just so happens to be Dell Conagher.
A finger from the gunslinger buzzed and twitched, and Engie noticed it. 'I gotta tweak this thing,' he thought. He wouldn't want the gunslinger to suddenly crush whatever he's holding. The right hand was moved forward for checking. Dell spun his metal wrist a few times to "stretch" it. Soft whirring sounds coming from the gunslinger filled the air. It was then when a thought formed, his eyes widened and they switched the gaze from Spy to his hand and back to Spy. Oh this is gonna piss him off so bad. He knows how Spy's touch feels but Dell never knew how he'd react to the gunslinger.
There he is, on the bed, trying to stifle his laugh, pointing a mechanical finger at Spys nape. During their matches, it was Spy who always got to pester the living hell out of Engie. This time, Dell tries to annoy Spy back. It's ironic, it really is and he found it absurdly funny.
Boop, a touch of the neck and slide it down along the spine to finish.
He flinched at Engie's touch and groaned. Spy moved a little to adjust himself from the minor disturbance but it didn't change how he was lying down.
"Hehe, d'aww" Engineer cooed at the reaction. He couldn't help it, Spy looks so adorable like this. He quickly placed his hands on his mouth to prevent making more noises. Was Spy woken up? Probably not, the sound he made was way too quiet and he went straight back to sleep by ignoring what touched him.
Dell was like a child at that moment, grinning from ear to ear and he just really loved that reaction. After a short while of calming himself, he decides its time for round two but this time with playful curvatures and poking. He wants to hear that delightful snort, he's thinking he wants to try to get it out. Fatigue took him over so he's not going to dig his fingers at Spy's sides. Instead, he traced Spy's ribs just like how he traced his spine earlier.
Spy arched up and gasped when Engie started at his sides. Curses for making that spot absolutely sensitive. He grunted trying not to smile and elevated himself with one arm to look over his shoulder. Spy had enough self control not to make any other noises. Dell may adore how he sounds but he tries not to unleash his real laugh as much. To Spy, his snorting was highly embarrassing. Dell stopped the tickling touches when he saw Spy moved to adjust.
"Dell" Spy said with a raspy voice, the morning wake probably helped roughed it up a tad. Engie never heard this tone of voice before, and he's glad he did. He just knew that Spy was fed up with his antics. Right before he was about to give a cheeky response, Spy spoke again.
"You could have at least said 'good morning'" his eyebrows are furrowed but that's mostly because of the light shining right through his face.
"Okay sheesh, Mornin Spy!" replied the Engineer trying to hold it in
"You do realize it's too late for that?" Spy grumbled back.
Engineer couldn't contain it any longer. He laughed heartily, everything about this is so stupid! Spy then shifts himself to face Engineer while waiting for him to finish the outburst, he was still wearing a pouty face. He sighed long just before he wrapped his arms around Dell still with an unfazed expression.
This is too good, the Engineer was cackling hard as Spy was holding him. It's absolutely silly and they're both grown men, that thought is just making Dell blush even more.
"So, were you amused with yourself?" Spy asked, planting his head on Engineer's chest. As the laughing is dying down, he can feel the breathing getting calmer and calmer at every huff. That adorable laugh is quite contagious, at a moment's notice, Spy caught himself smiling from it. Okay, maybe it was a little funny.
Engineer got his composure back. He had his hands covering his red face and he nodded before answering Spy's question.
"Hehe, yeah I was," he took a deep breath, hands still on the face "sorry about that, Darlin, I just didn't wanna get up." he returned Spy's favour of hugging him by cuddling back. Spy can only hum in response.
After that unusual display of affection, they're both snuggling. Spy just hopes none of his teammates heard the Engineer's holler despite his sound proof walls. His hands started wandering around Engie's body, actually he does that whenever he's starting to get deep in thought. Eventually, they have to get up and he has to sneak Engie out of the BLU base without getting caught. Spy didn't want to let go though. His life as someone whose job is to break the trust of people (and people themselves), it's always like all eyes glare daggers at him. He shook his head when he noticed his hands were moving aimlessly.
"The morning is catching up, Labourer," that nickname started out as an insult, now it's just a pet name they don't mind using at all. Spy calls Engineer "Labourer" as Engineer calls him "Snake" and they don't have a problem with it at all, not anymore.
"Soldier will probably look for me soon for his 'attendance list'." Spy rolled his eyes, mentioning the list.
"Oh damn, You too?" It surprised Engie how the BLU Soldier is the same as his own. "My team's Soldier is set with a little bugle to alarm everyone off," he smiled, trying to make light of the topic because Spy seems royally pissed off "sometimes he…. Barges in everyone's rooms…"
And that is when they both realized.
"Oh hell!"
"Merde!"
Dell scrambled to get off the bed but had a hard time due to the fact that Spy was entangled with him. It ended with Spy on the floor face planted down while Engineer was bolting to put on his clothes.
"Sorry!" he peeped out struggling to wear his shirt from the pile on the floor.
Spy got up from where he fell, pinching his nose to ease the pain.
"Ow" he said as he brought himself up to clothe himself as well. He grabbed everything from his pile and started putting them on.
Neither of them can remember what happened last night but it was probably a fun night.
After Spy fully dressed himself, he then went to the nightstand and opened its drawers. He grabbed his watch, his disguise kit and a box of cigarettes. He never leaves without them. It's a mystery how Spy wore his three-piece suit quicker than Engineer who was speeding and had a head start.
Engie tried to put his boots on and noticed Spy sitting on the bed with the suit. Eyes squinted, mind processing. How did he dress up so fast?
"We are going to share the cloak on our way out," Spy casually said while he poured himself a glass of water from the night stand when Dell started to fix the straps of his overalls. "All of my teammates are already up at this time," he takes a sip "except Scout, he wakes up at around 10" he winces and then places the glass back on the desk.
"Are we now?" Engie managed to speak out in the middle of finding where he left his goggles "That's mighty sweet of you, Slim." Spy is sincere about it, it's just Dell wanted to tease. He found his helmet at a nearby desk and went on to wear his kneecaps.
"Yes, you obviously don't want to be seen," Spy answered flicking a lighter for his cigarette "and I?" he walked towards Dell before taking a nice long drag "do not want to speak to my colleagues." He huffed out along with the smoke he inhaled. The smoke stung directly at Dell's face. The Conagher didn't even cough, he just waved off the smoke.
When the cloud cleared off, Dell noticed something off about Spy, was he always wearing goggl- oh wait those are his "Hey now, where'd you get that?" he pointed at his goggles that Spy seems to be wearing. Spy's lips turned upward. Spy may be a man of class but sometimes you have to let him do goofy nonsense.
"They were with my clothes, chéri" he softly smiled. God he's so cute. He took the goggles off his head and placed them over Engineer's. Now they're both fully dressed in their usual attire. Engie's face went hot again, he only nervously laughed as he put on the hard hat.
Spy lifted his wrist to show the watch. The mechanics of the invisibility watch works in a way where anything or anyone that is touching the wearer will join the cloak the moment it is activated. One could wonder what hands designed such an intricate gadget.
"Okay okay, we gotta hurry" Engineer tried to break the mood but it's mostly because he's a little embarrassed. "There's no time to get sappy." the helmet is tilted to hide his face.
"Aww, but isn't sapping my job?" Spy teased. He loves it when that old helmet is tilted, it awfully fits Dell's crooked smile.
"Har har, Now Let's get on with it" an entire palm pushed Spy's face for the joke. They both want to stick around more but their Soldiers are probably already marching down the halls to check on their teammates.
Spy then held the machine that woke him up before activating the watch. They touched their foreheads together with shut eyes as the device hissed.
The warm ray of morning light peeked itself from the window. It landed on the holograms that wrapped the two men for a split second, making it glow. During the same split second, Spy and Engineer shared one more touch with their hands, before fading from sight. One more touch and it will be longer, for it will be a waltz.
Not exactly a dance, Dell can't seem to synchronise well but it will be a lovely way to exit the base.
