Work Text:
"Ten days of absolute peace and quiet," Maya sighed as her and her now-wife settled into two sun loungers, the sun at its highest point with a soft breeze passing through their hair. It was a picture of perfection.
"No work calls, no fires, no babies - just us," Carina agreed, reaching over to gently trail her finger down Maya's arm.
"Just us," Maya smiled, turning her head and looking over at the brunette through her sunglasses. "You look beautiful," She complimented, enjoying the small ministrations of her wife's hand.
"Hm as do you mia moglie," Carina replied as Maya took the hand that had been running down her arm and brought it to her lips, placing a few soft kisses on top of it.
"I think that's my new favourite word," Maya said, unable to help the wide smile that spread across her face. Wife. She had a wife, after all those years of believing she would never settle down, all those years of believing she was unlovable, destined to be married to her work and the flames but here she was, on her honeymoon with her incredible, intelligent, generous, caring, beautiful wife. How the tables had turned.
"Mine too," Carina chuckled. "Do you want a drink?"
"I can get them?" Maya offered, pushing her glasses down her nose.
"I'm okay bambina, beer?" She asked, receiving a nod from the blonde. She sat up form the sun longer, fixed her bikini before leaning down and pressing her lips to Maya's an action that was very well received as a hand began to tangle in her hair as she was pulled closer. "Later," She whispered against her wife's lips, a small smirk on her face.
Maya just smirked back and gave her one last kiss before relaxing back under the sun.
As she laid there she thought back to their wedding day, which had the best day of her life - seeing Carina as she walked down that aisle, the memory still took her breath away. The vows had been perfect, but also they hadn't - because the love Maya had for the brunette could never have been put into words, they would never do it it justice but they had been heartfelt and emotional and genuine and she already had them committed to her mind.
Speaking of her wife - where was she? Maya sat up and looked around, trying to find her until her eyes found her by the bar a man talking to her as she waited with their drinks.
She quickly got up and walked over before her arm slipped around the brunette's waist and turned to see who it was talking to her wife when she was very quickly taken aback.
"Blondie!"
"Todd," Maya replied, having to blink a few times to make sure she wasn't hallucinating.
"How you doin'? I was just talking to our Spanish friend over here," he grinned.
"Not Spanish!" Both women cried.
"Woah okay sorry," He said, holding his hands up in defence.
"What are you doing here anyway?" Maya asked, her body moving even closer to her wife.
"Boys trip - how could I have guessed I'd run into you two?!" He smiled, cleary quite happy.
"Crazy coincidence," Maya replied with a sarcastic smile of her own.
"Right?!"
"Well, this was wonderful Todd but we have a honeymoon to get back to," Maya added emphasising the word honeymoon, as Carina stifled a laugh as she took their drinks.
"Bye Todd," They both said as they walked away.
The man still looking back at them in a haze.
"Out of all the people," Maya huffed as they sat down, taking a long sip of her drink.
"Oh I thought the whole thing was quite funny," Carina chuckled, enjoying the look on her wife's face.
"Glad one of us did."
"Good job I only have my eyes on one person," Carina smiled, moving to sit down on Maya's bed as a hand was placed on her waist.
"Yeah?" Maya smiled.
"Yeah - Todd," She teased.
"Ugh whatever," Maya groaned, trying to hide the smile that was trying to break through at the sound of Carina's laugh.
"Love you bambina," Carina said, placing a kiss on Maya's lips.
"Do you now?" But before Carina could answer Maya swiftly picked her wife up and threw her into the pool, sunglasses and all, a proud smirk on her face. "Love you too," Maya laughed.
Carina scowled and wipe the water from her face and the small windows of her sunglasses.
A few days later...
"Carina, are you ready?" Maya called out as she finished curling her hair.
"Just a minute," Carina replied.
A few minutes later, as promised, Carina walkout of the bathroom - Maya's eyes locking in on her wife through the mirror, her jaw dropping in the process.
"Maybe we should just stay here," Maya suggested, her brain still trying to process the Italian goddess that was her wife.
"Nope - we are going out," Carina declared sauntering over in her heels to wrap her tanned arms around the blonde's waist, sighing as she smelt her favourite perfume lingering on Maya's neck.
"Sure? I could make it worth your while," Maya propositioned, lacing her hands with the brunette, their eyes talking through the mirror.
"I'm sure you couldn't," Carina whispered, placing a soft kiss on her temple. "But we can do that later, plus I'm hungry."
"Later then," Maya smirked, finishing off adding some last touch ups of her mascara.
Carina was in a tight, form fitting black dress, a slit running up the side exposing her gorgeously long legs that Maya was very tempted to run her hands down, but somehow restrained herself. Her hair was down in its natural waves along with some simple yet stunning makeup - not that she needed it.
Maya on the other hand was in a red dress, also one very form fitting which Carina thought perfectly showed off all her defined muscles along with some red heels - it had been an outfit she bought for the blonde with the specific instructions it was only to be worn on their honeymoon . She'd curled her hair, thankful that it was beginning to grow out a lot more meaning she could style it a bit better.
"Ready?" Maya asked, putting her make-up away.
"Let's go bambina," Carina smiled, lacing their hands together as they walked out of their suite and down to the restaurant.
"I did not say that!" Maya exclaimed adamantly.
"You did!" Carina replied with a laugh.
"I did not!"
"You did! And you did it in that 'Maya way'."
"Maya way?" Maya questioned raising her eyebrows in confusion. "What way is that?"
"The way you get when uhm when things aren't in order you get all stiff like you are trying to control every muscle in your body," Carina's face scrunched up.
"What?! I make that face?"
"Oh yes!" Carina smiled. "The face is the best part." She scrunched her face up again and looked at the blonde. "I'm Maya Bishop," she imitated.
"That's DeLuca-Bishop to you," Maya countered with a grin, taking a sip of her wine.
"Touchè," Carina laughed.
Just as they finished their conversation their waiter walked over with two bowls in his hand.
"The salmon?" He asked.
"Oh that's mine, thank you," Maya said as he placed the bowl down in front of her.
"And the ravioli for you," He added, putting the second dish in front of Carina. "Can I get anything else for you?"
"We're good, graze," Carina smiled as he nodded with a small bow or his head and walked away.
"This looks incredible," Maya said, looking over at both of their meals.
"Only the best for our honeymoon," Carina smiled as she picked up her wine glass. "Cheers."
Maya clinked her own glass again her wife's before both taking a sip.
"I still can't believe we actually managed to pick a place to go," Maya said.
"It was definitely a process," Carina laughed, thinking back to their long discussions on where to g for their post-wedding travels.
"Oh here try some," Maya said, placing some salmon onto her fork and holding in front of the brunette's lips.
The corner of Carina's lips lifted slightly as she made sure to look into Maya's eyes as she took the food from her fork.
"You really do make everything sexy don't you?" Maya said, unable to help the feeling that coursed through her body every time Carina gave her what Maya had deemed her 'sex eyes'.
"Natural talent," Carina smirked. "That salmon is incredible. But as you were saying, yes I agree it is a miracle we managed to pick somewhere."
While Maya and Carina had been planning for their honeymoon they realised they had very different priorities when deciding where they wanted to go. Carina wanted the sun where she could just relax and read books, while May had wanted to have more of an adventurous holiday, somewhere where she could go on hikes and explore.
They had been a lot of back and forth, bene resulting in a game of rock paper scissors. They'd played best of three, ending in one each and the third game going on for around twenty rounds - apparently being in sync with one another had its disadvantages after all. So, they'd given up on that idea and had taken out a map and gone through a large list of potential possibilities - Maya making a very detailed spreadsheet - and they'd eventually ended up on Mexico.
There was plenty for Maya to go and explore and more than enough sun for Carina to relax in, plus it wasn't too long of a flight from Seattle either.
So far on their honeymoon Maya had taken Carina surfing, which the brunette admitted she enjoyed way more than she thought she would. Maya had hiked up one of the near-by mountains and Carina had convinced the blonde to bring a few books to read, although she did notice the blonde try and sneak in a book about flames and house safety which she had quickly removed. No work - that was the rule.
"I'm just going to go to the bathroom - I'll be right back," Maya said, leaning down to give Carina quick kiss before she left.
As Maya walked away Carina took a moment into to reflect n the past few days - some of the best few days of her entire life. She took the stem of her wineglass between her fingers and looked outside, her eyes casting over the ocean and the small myriad of twinkling yellow and white lights from a nearby town that the pair had visited the date before. She couldn't believe how lucky she was - to be here, in this beautiful country, married to the love of her life - she couldn't imagine anything more perfect that this right now.
Meeting Maya had changed her life in so many ways - all of their friends at the fire station spoke about how much Carina had impacted the fire Captain's life but the reality was Maya had done exactly the same for her.
When Arizona had left she had felt so many things, at the point in her life she thought she found something special - apparently the world has some very explicit ways of telling us what is right for us and what isn't. So when the paediatrician left for New York Carina thought she wouldn't find anyone else - that the only person she could ever see herself having a life with had gone, until a white wine in a bar had lead her to find her true soulmate. The person she'd always been destined to find.
Maya had taught her the importance of a chosen family, despite having Andrea she had surrounded herself with her chosen family and for the first time in a while she felt like she had people around her, that she wasn't alone.
She'd taught her the importance of honesty and communication, being bale to effectively talk with her partner was something they'd developed together and it had worked wonders for their relationship - no secrets, no lies, only the truth.
Maya had shown her a love that she'd never experienced before, a passionate, gentle, sensual, all consuming, caring, affectionate kind of love; it had been hard at times and they'd had to overcome a lot of obstacles and unexpected truths during their journey, but it had made them stronger, better.
It had elevated their love and made it reach levels they never thought could have existed. So for two people who had been pretty much sworn off of relationships, knowing how far they had come only made Carina smile in joy and happiness.
Who could have thought a drink in a bar could have led to her being married and having her honeymoon in Mexico? Certainly not her - but she was more than happy to prove herself wrong every so often.
Just as Maya walked out of the bathroom she accidentally bumped into someone.
"Oh I'm so sorry," She apologised.
"Maya!" The woman said, realising who the blonde was.
"Michelle! What are you doing here?" Maya asked, recognising Andy's cousin from the fire station as well as a family BBQ she had attended.
"I'm on a trip with a few friends - college tradition," She replied, her eyes roaming down Maya's dress. "You look nice."
"Oh - thank you," Maya replied, realising where the conversation was heading - this wasn't the first time Michelle had flirted with her.
"You are always welcome," She winked in response. "So are you still with the Italian?" Michelle asked getting straight to the point while looking Maya directly in the eyes, almost as if she was undressing her right then and there.
Maya was about to answer when she felt two arms wrap around her waist.
"Married to the Italian," Carina interjected with a fake smile so wide Maya bit her lip to stifle her laugh.
"I see," Michelle said, clearly annoyed by the interruption. "Well I guess congratulations are in order."
"Thank you - I could't have asked for anyone better to be in love with," Carina replied, her Italian glare coming into full effect.
"I better get back," Michelle said. "Bye Maya," She waved with a wink. Maya figured she was a brave woman, taking her chances saying that in front of Carina, but she was still trying not to laugh and the whole situation.
Once Michelle was out of sight, Carina turned to face her wife. "Can you believe her?! Flirting with my wife - how dare she?!"
"I agree," Maya nodded, letting the Italian rant as she kept her smile to herself, she always thought Carina looked very attractive when she ranted and got annoyed, but she wasn't about to tell the brunette that.
"I shall be talking to Andy about her cousin, tell her to make sure she leaves you alone! I know people you know! Powerful people - I am Italian after all, and Sicilian at that!" She said, pointing her finger at nothing in particular.
"Okay Mafia boss - why don't we just take a breath," Maya said, taking a step towards her wife, placing her hands on her face. "You know I only have eyes for you...you are the only person I will ever want and no one else can take that away. I love you," She affirmed, giving her a passionate but short kiss.
"I love you too," Carina replied, resting her forehead against the blondes. "Sorry I went all Italian crazy."
"Hm I found it very attractive," Maya whispered against her lips, guessing that telling her now would go over better.
"Wasn't the intention but I will take the result," Carina smiled.
"Now - how about dessert?" Maya suggested, giving Carina one last kiss before she took her hand and walked them back through the restaurant towards their table.
"Still dating the Italian?" Carina mimicked under her breath, making Maya throw her head back with a laugh before shaking her head and smiling - god she loved this woman.
"Anyone else you think we will run into?" Carina said as they walked past the moonlit pool hand in hand, returning back to their hotel suite.
"I didn't know I may have seen Jack walking around," Maya joked, getting a glare from her wife. "Right okay. Not funny. Got it."
"I hate you." Carina declared, although her hand didn't leave Maya's.
"Ah that's a shame, because I kinda love you," Maya replied, pretending to be sad - pulling out her best 'puppy-dog' eyes.
"Hm maybe you can convince me to change my mind?" Carina replied, the corner of her lip between her lips as she looked down into Maya's bright blue eyes. Somehow they were even brighter in the dark.
"I wonder how I could do that?" Maya asked, pretending to think.
"Oh I think you know," Carina laughed.
"I might have a few ideas," Maya said, her voice dropping as she stared back into chestnut brown the air around them suddenly very hot.
Oh what a fun honeymoon they would have.
