Stuck in the Snow

Summary:

Tony Stark ruined their Christmas together, so to make it up to them, he paid for Daphne and Steve to have a romantic weekend away in a cabin in the woods - the only problem: the impending snowstorm following them to their destination.

Stuck in the Snow

Notes:

A/N: This story was written for Marvelously Magical Fanfiction's Holiday Collection: Enchanted Wonders 2021 Edition! The aim of this collection was to create a fun holiday-themed set of stories for the 12 Days of Christmas that melded the Harry Potter Universe with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

My pairing was set to be Daphne Greengrass and Steve Rogers and the enchanted item I was given was the Time-Turner and my holiday-themed word was snowman. The theme for the year was Locked in a Room. All of these make an appearance in this story in some way.

I hope you enjoy this story as well as the rest of the stories in the collection. I know that many of these authors have worked very hard on all of their collection pieces for this group as well as a few other holiday-themed events going on this time of year.

If you enjoyed my story and would like to check out some of my other works, feel free to search up starrnobella on most social media and you will be able to find a way to contact me outside of AO3/FFN.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Love always,

Work Text:

"It's just a little snow," Daphne scoffed, shaking her head as she pressed her back into the car seat with a sigh. "I don't know why you won't let me drive the rest of the way to the cabin."

"Have you looked out the windshield lately?" Steve asked, glancing at Daphne out of the corner of his eye for just a moment before tightening his grip on the steering wheel. He could see her rolling her eyes, which irritated him, but he needed to focus. "Actually, have you ever driven during a snowstorm before?"

"It's not a snowstorm," Daphne huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. "And why does it matter that if I've ever driven while it's snowing? It's no different than driving during the rain."

"Except for the fact that when snow hits the ground, it can freeze and turn into ice," Steve replied, gritting his teeth as he fought the steering wheel a bit as the car started to drift. "Rain doesn't turn to ice unless it's really, really cold. Have you ever driven on ice?"

"No," Daphne grumbled, rolling her eyes as she turned to stare out the window. "But that doesn't mean I can't do it."

Steve let out a sigh as he hit the turn signal and pulled over, putting the car in park on the side of the road. He turned in the seat to face Daphne and reached over to grab her hand. "Hey, look at me," he whispered, brushing his hand against the back of her hand.

With a sigh, Daphne turned to face him. "What?"

"You know I love you, right?" Steve asked, reaching to cup Daphne's cheek. He leaned over and kissed her gently; as he pulled back, he brushed his thumb over her lips as a smile pulled at his lips. "I am driving because it is my job to protect you because I love you."

"I can protect myself," Daphne replied, furrowing her brow. Steve started to open his mouth, but she pressed a finger to his lips. "I know that you love me, and I love you. I also love that you want to protect me, so I will quit complaining about you not letting me drive."

"Thank you," Steve said, kissing her finger before turning back to get back on the road. As he drove the car, he noticed a smirk on Daphne's face. "What's that smirk about?"

"I'll quit complaining at least until we get to the cabin," she said, tossing her head back with a laugh as Steve shook his head. "Now, get us to the cabin so we can start our vacation."

"Yes, ma'am," Steve said, saluting her before turning his full attention to the road. From the looks of the GPS, they were almost to their destination - a cabin in the woods for a romantic weekend for two. It was a Christmas present to the two of them from Tony Stark since he called Steve away from the Greengrass family Christmas party to work a case. The billionaire's generosity was almost enough to make someone believe that Iron Man had a heart.

Twenty minutes later, Steve pulled the car into the driveway of their vacation for the weekend. A blanket of snow coated the cabin, and lit candles made it seem like they were stepping into a scene from a Hallmark movie - the thought made Steve roll his eyes at the sheer number of them that Daphne had made him sit through before the holiday.

Daphne climbed out of the car and stretched her arms over her head, sighing. "Tony did good picking this place out. The cabin is beautiful from the outside. I'm excited to see what it's like inside, but I think we should take advantage of this freshly fallen snow."

Steve leaned up against the car and crossed his arms over his chest as he watched Daphne wander around in the snow. "What did you have in mind?"

"Well, we've been in the car all day, and you've been panicking over the snowy roads," Daphne began, only to be cut off by her boyfriend.

"I wasn't panicking about the roads," Steve said, furrowing his brow.

"You were, but that's beside the point," Daphne laughed, making her way over to where Steve was standing. She wrapped her arms around his neck and smiled as Steve's hands came to rest on her waist. She pressed up on her tiptoes to kiss him softly before pulling away and resting her head on his shoulder. After a few minutes, she pressed a kiss to his cheek and whispered in his ear. "Do you want to build a snowman?"

Steve tossed his head back with a laugh as he leaned back to meet Daphne's eye. "Are you serious?"

"Absolutely," Daphe said, a big smile pulling at the corners of her lips. "It'll be fun. We never get snows like this in the city, so we need to make sure we take full advantage. And besides, it gives us a really good excuse to curl up by the fireplace later to warm up."

Steve's brow raised as a smirk pulled at his lips. "I like the way you think, Greengrass. Let's build a snowman."

Daphne jumped up and down with a giddy laugh, clapping her hands before turning away from Steve and making her way into the clearing. She glanced back over her shoulder and motioned for Steve to join her. Reluctantly, he pushed off the car and joined her in the field - not a care in the world other than the logistics of their snowman.

About an hour later, the snow was starting to fall heavier than it had on their journey to the cabin. Daphne and Steve decided to go inside before they got trapped in the snow, possibly freezing to death. The door to the cabin seemed to be stuck as Steve tried to pull it open, and it took a little brute force, and after a few attempts, Steve finally managed to pull the door open. The pair made their way inside quickly and dropped their suitcases beside the door.

Just as Steve turned to close the door, it slipped out of his hands and slammed shut. Daphne jumped at the sound and wrapped her arms around her waist. Steve's eyes were wide as he walked over to the door to investigate.

"That scared the hell out of me," she hissed, shaking her head as she rubbed her hands along her sides.

"Language," Steve sighed, shaking his head with a laugh. He wiggled the doorknob, but it refused to budge, so Steve tugged at it. The door didn't move. Steve scrubbed a hand over his face before turning on his heel to face Daphne. "It would appear we might be stuck in here until the storm moves by."

Daphne nodded her head slowly as a wicked grin appeared on her face. "Locked in a cabin where no one can bother us? I think that sounds like the perfect start to a vacation."

Steve shook his head with a laugh. "As nice as it sounds, what are we going to do if we can't get out of here when our reservation is over?"

"Wish we had a time-turner to go back in time and not get stuck inside?" Daphne suggested, shrugging her shoulders with a smile on her face.

Steve rolled his eyes. "I guess we'll just have to that Tony doesn't mind paying for an extra night or two if the storm doesn't blow by quickly."

Daphne laughed, crossing the room to wrap her arms around Steve's neck. She giggled as Steve's strong arms wrapped around her waist, lifting her off the ground. He kissed her as he carried her across the room and dropped down to the couch, pulling her into his lap.

"I believe you promised me something in front of the fireplace," Steve said, kissing her in between each kiss.

"That I did," Daphne whispered, capturing Steve's lips in a deep kiss - completely forgetting that they were stuck here for the foreseeable future.
