countdown to shore leave

Summary:

The crew of the Enterprise have a countdown running until they are officially on shore leave.

Six Geese A-Laying: Countdown

Notes:

Yay, something Star Trek, finally. /j

But in all seriousness, this one is one of the best fanfics I've written for this challenge, even if it isn't whump in the slightest.

Work Text:

This was one of the very few times the entire crew of the starship Enterprise would be doing something together, all at the same time.

On the main viewscreen on the Bridge was a countdown with the hours, minutes and seconds until they were on shore leave. This countdown had been running since they had received the order to return to Terra for mandatory shore leave, and to refit and run a radiation sweep of the Enterprise.

When it got down to one hour, the countdown was broadcast to every personal PADD onboard. Now the countdown was down to five minutes and the  Enterprise was in orbit around Terra. All that was left was for the crew to pack up all their belongings and get ready to leave.

The Command Crew were the last ones still on official duty, well sort of. they were all still at their stations. The countdown was now being projected up onto the main viewscreen. There was less than four minutes left, three, two, one .

When it got down to twelve seconds, the Command Crew (barring Spock) started counting down verbally.

“Twelve!” Jim started it.

“Eleven!” Chekova continued.

“Ten!” Sulu joined in.

...

“Three!” It was Scotty’s turn again.

“Two!” McCoy’s last turn.

“One!” and with Uhura’s final turn, the countdown was finished.

“Lady and gentlemen, we are officially on shore leave!” Jim declared as he stood from his Captain’s chair, the rest of the bridge crew doing similar.

As they boarded the turbolift, the Enterprise’s captain heard Sulu ask Chekova what he was planning to do for his shore leave, McCoy chatting with Scotty about some new Irish whiskey that the scotsman had heard about, and Uhura asking Spock about how his mother was doing.

This shore leave would be eventful, regardless of what they did, they were the crew of the Enterprise for Pete’s sake .
