a cute christmas story

Notes:

i know it's been a while since i've posted a fic, so here's a gift! it's already christmas for some, while it's still christmas eve for others, but i hope you all enjoy it :)

Work Text:

"where are the ingredients for the cookies, ryujin?" chaeryeong asked, as she thoroughly looked around the kitchen. it was the girl’s turn to host their annual christmas party and so far it hasn’t been going great. “i forgot to buy them,” the other quickly replied.

popping out of the kitchen, into the living room she stood in front of the girl, who was fixing the mistletoe. “i told you to buy them earlier.”

“i know but i got caught up on other things,” ryujin replied without even giving her a glance. chaeryeong crossed her arms and sneered, irritated that the shorter didn't even look at her.

“how about we go together to buy them,” she suggested, but chaeryeong stayed silent. finally looking at the brown haired, she noticed how annoyed the other was. laughing to herself, ryujin hugged the other, “come on jagi, i’m sorry.”

chaeryeong raised her head away from the other, still irritated, only for the other to cup her face to kiss her. she gazed at her lover, who’s eyebrows knitted together in confusion but ryujin just stared back at her innocently. “what,” she shrugged, “we’re under the mistletoe,” she said, as she pointed to the evergreen plant above them.

“fine, let’s go together,” chaeryeong sighed in defeat.

hurriedly, the black haired put on her jacket and shoes, while the other took her time. noticing how slow the other was, ryujin patiently waited, which the girl would always do for the other.

“you ready?” ryujin asked, after seeing chaeryeong walk towards her.

the wide eyed girl nodded and grasped the other's hand before they left their apartment. as the two start walking down the snow-covered streets, they are reminded of why christmas was their favorite season: snow.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

browsing through her playlist, ryujin found the perfect song to play. it was the first song ryujin sang when she met chaeryeong. going back to help the other, the music can be heard softly playing in the background.

quietly humming along to the song, the two girls started making the dough.

after putting the cookies in the oven, the two decided to sit on the couch and enjoy the snowfall together.

“i love this song,” chaeryeong exclaimed, clasping her hands together, as a new song started playing.

“don’t cry, snowman, not in front of me. who’ll catch your tears if you can’t catch me, darling. if you can't catch me, darling.” chaeryeong sang along.

ryujin chuckled as she looked at the other, who was cheerfully singing while running her hand through her dark brown hair. “you really love this song don’t you.”

looking at the shorter as though she had said something wrong, chaeryeong boasted, “of course.”

"then, miss chaeryeong, would you mind letting me have this dance?" ryujin stood up, bowed and extended her hand.

“of course, miss ryujin.” chaeryeong played along, taking the other’s hand. the two got into position and began dancing.

the two sang together as they stared into each other’s eyes, grasping that moment. “let’s go below zero and hide from the sun. i love you forever where we’ll have some fun. yes, let’s hit the north pole and live happily. please don’t cry no tears now it’s christmas, baby, my snowman and me. my snowman and me, baby.”

the music slowly faded into the background and all they could focus on was each other. it's astonishing how one's eyes can provide so much comfort. losing themselves in each other, the two leaned in but were disturbed by the sound of the doorbell.

“they came at the wrong time,” ryujin groaned as chaeryeong lightly chuckled.

“here,” chaeryeong quickly kissed the complaining shorter and then pushed her towards the door. “don’t be so grumpy and greet our friends. i will take the cookies out of the oven.” chaeryeong told the black haired girl while walking to the kitchen.

agreeing, the short girl greeted her friends cheerfully as she opened the door.

“what’s gotten you in a good mood?” the youngest of them all asked.

“it’s probably because of our chaeryeong,” jisu teased, wiggling her eyebrows.

wanting to tease the younger yeji joined, “i wonder what it is this time,” she said, as she made a pondering gesture.

the three laughed as chaeryeong greeted them at the door, “i’m glad you guys could make it,” she said as she hugged all of them.

“i think someone would be happier if we didn’t,” yuna gestured towards the shorter who was staring at chaeryeong and chuckled.

ignoring their teasing, ryujin had the biggest smile on her face as she looked at the person she got to call her girlfriend.
