Work Text:
Shinsou Hitoshi is not the most social friend you can have in life. He never had that social skill in life after his quirk came in his, parents got into an argument before his mother left. His father told him is not his fault that his mother left even though she called him a villain when he accidentally used his quirk on her. While at his school, his teachers ignored him, and somehow his quirk got out now that everyone avoided him or threw an insult.
It somehow got worst when one bully pushed him down the stairs, spraining his arm. His father was furious that the school not only hid his son's injury but didn't call him about the accident. He told his Dad that is okay and not to worry about him.
Afterward, his Dad pulls him out of the school and into a new one. The new school he went was okay not, a lot of people knew about him, nor his quirk and, even they knew they don't question him, they'll just avoid him. It wasn't bad as his last one but, they were no bullies to hurt or throw an insult to him. He's Dad made sure the school would treat him better if, not equal.
One day he told his Dad he wanted to go to UA to become a hero, he's Dad was supportive and helped him find a routine to help him.
So when he tried to do the exam in UA, let's just say it went horrible but wasn't as well. The written exam wasn't easy, and to say the least when people avoid you, you have a lot of spare time. He managed to breeze the written in some parts and, he mentally patted himself on the back for studying at home. Sometimes insomnia does have good use. When it was the practical exam, that was when all hell broke loose, now Hitoshi is a man of words and, he will voice it out loud knowing that UA has a biased exam, but this was impossible unless you have a quirk that can either destroy or being smart.
Hitoshi mentally thinks of those who don't have a quirk that can aid them or generally don't have a backup plan.
But Hitoshi is determined to get in and, if he has to use brute force with it then, so be it. It was very chaotic with quirks here and there, and in the end, he managed to get a little bit of point from using the rubble laying down from destruction and pinpointing the weak spot on the robot. He also pulls out some examiners that were stuck in some places.
When it was time for the letter, he was devastated he didn't make it in. His Dad comforts him with coffee and cat video to cheer him up and, he asks him if he wanna go to another school. He told him that he would go in the general course. As he already applied.
He doesn't want to put more weight on his Dad and, finding a school with a strict policy against bullying will be difficult with his situation and all.
He was brooding most of the days, but on the bright side, he won't be bullied in UA, not physically, at least.
-------------------------------------
The orientation meeting was long and, might he say, tiring. Class 1 A was not there it, seems.
"They must be doing whatever heroic those golden students do," Hitoshi may or not didn't mean to sound bad but, with all the bullies and teachers in the past, he is really not ready to deal with hero course brats.
When the orientation meeting was done, he quickly made his way to his class and sat on the chair by a window. When his classmates tried to talk to him, he just said short sentences to get them off his tail.
"I'm not here to make friends" was left unsaid.
When the classroom was filled with all the students, a teacher walk-in. "So much for sleeping in," he silently smacked his head on his desk. This is gonna be a long day for the insomnia boy.
--------------------------------------
He's been going to UA for about two weeks or so. His classmates weren't as bad as he thought when everyone told their quirks, sometimes asked him to help with a question. He seldom enjoys their company but, it was nice that they don't care about his quirk.
He accidentally uses his quirk in his classmate when he asks about the work he can't understand. His classmate just laughed and waved it off. They told him they also have a problem with controlling their quirk.
"That okay, Shinso-kun it, was just an accident I, remember my first time when I broke the ceiling with my quirk," Showing their quirk which, is a metallic tail.
He decided to go to a cafe he heard about in the other courses after school. When school was over, he made haste to his home and changed out of his uniform, and went in the direction of the cafe when he arrived at his destination, he opened the door that made a tinkling sound, he was greeted by a cheerful voice.
"Welcome to Flora Feline Cafe,"
"Feline?" he thought, then there was weight against his foot. He looked down and saw a cat playing with his shoelaces.
"That black tabby kitten there is Luna she, can be very playful over the littlest thing," He looks back up again to look at the green boy behind the counter.
"I can see that," The tabby tilted her head at him and mewled happily. He cooed at her and scooped her into his arms. Hitoshi saw more cats lying down at some spots while the others feline soaking, their attention to other customers.
He walked over to the boy with the tabby in hand. "So what did you want to order for today," His curly hair bounced livelily animately.
Why does the sunshine people are so cute?
He slapped that thought into the gutter. "I'll have black coffee with the two-shot of espresso," He put his order.
"Ah, I see," the boy grabbed a paper and wrote down his order. "And your name?"
"Shinsou Hitoshi," the kitten his holding was playing with his hand that held her.
The boy smiled at him "okay then, Shinso-kun, your order will be there shortly,"
Hitoshi nodded at the boy and went to find a seat. He sat near a round table with fluffy cushions and, plushy on the ground, most of those cushions were occupied by the cats and, one cat particularly, a white Maine coon jumped from its spot and lay down next to him.
It's pretty relaxing from where he sat with the plants making the environment more lively with the flower from big to small. The smell wasn't so bad as well and, the quiet chattering is not that noisy that he can't handle.
He grabs his phone from his pocket and looks at the news for today. Scratching the cats that found Hitoshi as a heat warmer.
-------------------------------------------
It was quiet with now fewer customers. Hitoshi actually fell asleep an hour before with the friendly and calm atmosphere.
He felt his shoulder being shaken and, he opened one of his eyes to see who woke him from his slumber. He was met with emerald eyes looking at him.
"Sorry I woke you up, Shinsou-kun but, your order has been delayed a bit," Hitoshi saw behind the boy that it was raining heavily outside; he realized that he might need to text his Dad about coming home late.
"What time is it?" he rubs his eyes.
The boy looks at his watch. "Well, you've been asleep for two hours so, I say between fourteen to fifteen-ish p.m," The boy told him. Huh, he slept that long.
It seems that Hitoshi is the only one here besides the boy and the cats. Speaking of cats, he felt his legs is cramp by the weight the felines put.
The boy beside him puts his coffee on the table, stands up and walks to the counter, and opens a drawer; he returns with a treat bag in hand. "Come here, you little felines, you're crushing the customer," He giggled when the cats heard a shaking sound from the treat bag. All the cats that were on him moved away. He felt relieved when he stretched his legs. He may love cats but, they're little demons when you need to go somewhere. Moreover is illegal to move a cat that is sleeping on you. They are just too cute to be moved.
"Thank you for that-," He forgot to ask the boy's name.
But the boy beat him to it. "My name is Izuku but, you call him Izu if you want to," He smiled at Hitoshi. Oh jeez, he regrets not bringing his sunglasses with him the bo-- Izuku he mind supply him with.
"Just Izuku no family name?" He thought about why the boy does not have a family or last name.
His thought was cut off short by Izuku's voice. "Shinso-kun, do you want some pastries. I make some new batches today but, because today is raining, I don't think my frequent customers can come today," He thinks about it. Pastries do sound nice.
"Oh! you don't need to worry about the price you, can have it free,"
Well, if it is free, then, sure. "sure, I'll have what is in stock," He responded to Izuku. He nodded and went to the kitchen to grab it.
He drank the coffee on the table and thought about his day. He doesn't mind coming here again. It's nice to hang out with the cats giving him some pressure. He is still salty about the exam. When a meowed was heard near him, he looked to his right to see a Siamese cat pawing his leg. He grabbed the siamese cat and plopped them on his lap.
"I advise you not to be deceived by him. Link is a demon in disguise," Izuku said to him, also holding a plate with colorful pastries. Hitoshi arched his eyebrow at him and looked back at Link, who was now curled up in his lap.
"Link bit a lot of people but, he doesn't really hurt them he, do it to show affection in his own way," He put the pastries on the table and sat down facing Hitoshi, his apron has discarded showing a shirt that has a kanji with "poem''.
"I hope you don't mind me sitting here," He brought out books which might be he was holding to his hip. The white tabby cat Izuku called "Sora" came to him and jumped on his lap, pawing him, before settling down with a pleased purred Izuku scratched Sora's head which, in return, meowed back at him.
Hitoshi takes a muffin from the plate and munch on it. He eyes the boy writing in his book while muttering softly and Sora watching him.
"So um, are you like 17 or 19 years old," Hitoshi said to Izuku, and yep way, to go with his social life.
"Oh, I'm 15," Izuku waved one of his arms. "I see; do you work at the cash register?" He petted Link when the cat demanded attention.
"Oh no," Izuku giggle, "I actually own this cafe,"
Hitoshi was surprised and empress that Izuku is a teen that owns this cat cafe.
"Your parents approved of this," in all which Hitoshi regretted saying when Izuku went silent, and his lip was trembled in angry?
"Ah, shi-- I mean, sorry that, was a touchy subject I, presume," He quickly covered the tension. Izuku sighed and nodded.
"it is, please, don't bring that up again," Izuku's eyes were dim, and holding his pencil in a tight grip.
''Great job Hitoshi you, managed to make some hatred toward yourself'' He mentally thought of smashing his head toward a nearby pole.
It was silent for a while except for the cats and, rain poured down heavily outside.
But this time thundered, yep, he'll be going home late. It was until Izuku spoke that he looked at him.
"Don't be upset, Shinsou-kun, you didn't know," The boy was sincere toward the boy. Hitoshi accepted as a win-win scenario.
"Let's start this again, so why do you come here Shinsou-kun,''
"Ah, I came here because I heard about it around my classmates at UA," He grabbed a mochi and ate it.
Izuku turns confusing for a second. "Isn't UA miles from here, and I think I passed some cafe near there," He muttered the last word, Sora turning her head up to look at him and clumsy paw him.
Ah, this is where Hitoshi can see the end of his trip. Izuku doesn't know why he can't go there.
He stored all his confidence and said. "I was banned from there," He knew what was about to happen might as well go with it. "hmm, why that Shinsou-kun," He tilted his head. That has to be illegal looking like a kitten.
"It's because of my quirk," He stated
"Then how does your quirk relate to this?" Hitoshi holds Link close to his chest and braces himself. "My quirk is brainwashing," He closes his eyes and waits for the yell at him and bans him from here.
He heard a gasp and, what he thought disgusted was the opposite.
"That such a cool quirk, is it voice-based or respond-based but then to activate it will be messy because in theory there a lot of ways to do it---," Izuku muttered, his hand on his chin. Link and Sora look at him as they have seen him do this a lot.
Hitoshi bluescreen for a while when the boy continued on his rambled
"Shinsou-kun... Shinsou-kun!" He snaps back at Izuku waving, his hand at him. "Are you alright Shinso-kun, I'm sorry if I rambled a lot, just a habit," The boy's facial impression was sad and worried at him. "No, is fine Izuku-,"
"Just Izuku, please,"
"Izuku is alright. Your muttering wasn't a bother," He rubs his neck, a little nervous tick.
Izuku let out a huff and looked at Hitoshi. "the coffee on the table is getting cold Shinsou-kun," He grabbed his coffee and drank it.
It was a few seconds before Izuku spoke up. "Shinsou-kun, I know we just met, and all but your quirk doesn't justify who you are," Izuku petted Sora, who looked at him with sad eyes.
"Just because your quirk is brainwashing that doesn't mean it's villainy is more the opposite. Your quirk can be used a lot for situations Shinsou-kun. I might not know your situation but, I can help you and, if you need someone to rant, to then I lend you an ear," Izuku chirp at him.
"Maybe coming here is a good choice," He thought he was happy that Izuku was willing to hear him even they merely met.
----------------------------------
Hitoshi was surprised that Izuku had some common. They like watching the sky when it's dark. They share their likes in a book.
He and Izuku talked a while and, he felt relaxed. "So this is what having a friend is like" They talked until the rain stopped and, he got to meet half of the cat's family. When the rain stops raining, lights begin to make their way onto the street. He looked back at his phone and looked at the time.
"I guess I have to go now," he stands up, putting the cats down Izuku also stand and follow him.
"Yeah, Your Dad must be worry Shinsou-kun," Izuku open the door for him. "ah, wait, Shinsou-kun, can I borrow your phone for one sec,"
"Sure, why did you need it for,"
"So we can trade number silly," He giggled typing, on Hitoshi's phone. He gave it back to him.
"I hope we can meet again, Shinsou-kun,"
"Hmm, Sure," He was about to head back when Izuku called to him. "Shinsou-kun, you should talk to your classmates is good to have someone with you," Hitoshi grunted and waved back and went back home.
After a few days of texting each other, one day, Izuku was serving customers their orders when he got a message from Shinsou-kun in 'Tired cat' in his contact. He quickly grabbed it to look at what he sent. It was a photo with him and two other people besides him with the message in the chat 'I talk to them," with an emoji to top it. He smiled that his purple friend found more friends in his life.
