"Izumi-chan, I mean it. Don't hesitate to call any of us if you need — "
Izumi stopped the voicemail and threw his phone onto the couch. Simply hearing Arashi's voice made him sick.
Seriously, why wouldn't they believe him? Ever since that night, his unit mates had been constantly fussing over him. It was so goddamn annoying he nearly ripped his hair off. He'd told them over and over that he was all right, that all he'd gotten was scratches, but they kept nagging.
He supposed he couldn't really blame them for worrying. Having a car accident did sound horrifying, but he felt fine. He was fine. He was discharged from the hospital the next evening without any major injuries.
And Leo was fine, too. They were both fine.
It happened a week ago. Arashi kept calling him after that, followed by Tsukasa, and occasionally Ritsu. Madara, Chiaki, Kaoru, and Nazuna also checked on him once or twice. Even Makoto did as well.
How else should he tell them that they were fine?
"Naru called again, didn't she?"
Izumi blinked. He didn't remember when he started walking to his room—his room that he shared with Leo. He liked this room, because there was the bed on which he made love with Leo during sleepless nights; because there was the giant window overlooking the most astonishing view—the vast dark sky sprinkled with stars, so many stars, and the flickering blanket of city lights splayed at its feet.
But even all those wonders couldn't compare to the young man sitting under the window.
Leo had always been beautiful, Izumi thought, even if he never admitted it out loud. But now, on the floor beside his phone while basking in the moonlight, the night breeze softly blowing his sunset hair—
Leo's eyes greeted his own, emeralds met sapphires.
Izumi knew there was no human on earth as ethereal as him.
Not a single one.
Izumi's heart ached as he stepped into the room, as the slow music playing from Leo's phone guided him home.
As Leo's sincere smile welcomed him.
"She did," Izumi rasped out, eyes never leaving his lover.
Leo was so bright. So bright . Izumi always wondered how one could still shine so bright, even after witnessing the darkness and evils of the world.
"What did you tell her?"
Izumi stopped in front of Leo. His lover looked up to him, smile never faltering.
"I told her we're all right," Izumi said quietly. The dull pain in his heart throbbed faintly as he beheld Leo's entire existence before him. So beautiful, and so real .
Leo. Leo . His king , forever and always. His love.
His .
Izumi didn't know when a tear formed in his eye, not until it trickled down his cheek. He didn't know why.
He was happy. Leo was here, with him. They were together.
So why was he crying?
Before he could stop himself, he offered his hand to Leo.
"Dance with me?"
More tears came out.
"I thought you'd never ask."
Leo beamed and slipped his hand into Izumi's.
Izumi pulled Leo to his feet and took him into his arms. Their bodies complemented each other, like they were made for each other.
Leo laughed as Izumi crushed him against his chest. "This is not how people dance, you know."
Izumi didn't care.
Leo only hummed, contently placing his chin on Izumi's shoulder as the taller led him to the middle of the room by his waist.
They didn't speak, neither did they do anything but sway along the rhythm—not when the music spoke louder for them, not when it whispered countless, unsaid words that were hanging between them for so long, far too long, but neither dared to say.
"Sena, why are you crying?"
That innocent, sweet voice.
Izumi sobbed then, pulling Leo closer to him, desperately trying to map and memorize every curve, every inch of his lover's body. "I don't know."
Leo wrapped his arms around Izumi's neck, tip-toeing to kiss his damp cheek. "A tear doesn't suit you."
Izumi didn't reply. He cupped the back of Leo's head, burying his face in the crook of his lover's neck. Leo always smelled so good, like evening breeze and citrus.
He breathed him in and cried harder.
"You're here," Izumi said, more to convince himself that Leo was real. That he was here in his arms. "You're really here."
He knew Leo was still smiling. "I am."
Izumi pulled back, taking Leo's face in his hands to see him better. More tears rolled down Izumi's eyes as he traced the lines of his lover's cheeks, his jaws, his lips.
"You're beautiful."
He never meant for his voice to waver as he said those words. Those words, that he'd kept hidden in his heart for so many nights, so many years.
"You're more so."
"I love you."
There. He said it.
Leo's eyes shone, an even wider smile spreading across his face. "I know. I love you, too."
Izumi snorted.
"Where have you gone?"
"Some place far away from here."
Izumi nodded, even though it was so, so heavy for his heart to will it.
"Are you happy there?"
"Very much."
Izumi fought back the lump in his throat and returned his king's smile at last.
"Don't have too much fun without me, Leo-kun."
"Never in a hundred years, Sena."
Izumi brought Leo's face closer to him.
"Promise you'll wait for me?"
Leo laughed. "Silly Sena. I don't need to wait for you. And neither do you."
Izumi believed him.
"I'll warm you when the cold bites."
Izumi claimed Leo's lips with his own and closed his eyes.
"I'll hold you when the nightmares come."
His love. His life. His universe.
"I'll chase the shadows away."
His king.
"I'll be your light, as you've been my heart."
Always had been, always would be.
"I never leave."
Izumi believed him.
But when he opened his eyes, Leo was gone.
And the music went on.
