But Norton isn’t listening.
He can’t listen hear anything the roaring sound of blood in his ears.
He knows this blade. He’s seen it before. He’s held it in his hand before, with nimble fingers showing him the best way to hold it. Showing him how to protect himself.
Though the rust has dulled the blade to the point where the only way it could possibly hurt someone is through tetanus, he knows what it looked like when it was sharp and deadly.
He knows what it looks like with his tears on it.

Summary
It had been an entirely impulsive decision. Max didn't even remember forming the conscious thought to do it.
One moment, he was listening to Mr. Wizard yapping about something or other (he was no longer paying attention to whatever the man was saying) and he must have had the inane thought of what he could do to shut him up, because suddenly Max's lips were on his.
It did the trick, at least, but now he had an entirely new problem. That being what the hell was he thinking?
He starts to pull away, but a hand comes up to the back of his head, fingers running through his hair, and holds him in place. The lips under his kiss him back, and he has a moment to wonder what his life has come to before he stops thinking at all.
