Chapter Text
Marinette groaned as she rolled over in bed, almost smacking her head into the wall.
She was supposed to be asleep right now, but her mind was racing a hundred kilometers a minute. With a groan, she wrapped herself in a blanket and stumbled down her ladder towards the computor.
Rena Rouge and Chat Noir, she typed into her search bar again.
Idly, she clicked on a website called Archive of Our Own.
“Fanfiction?” She asked aloud, scrolling through the options.
Already, there were thirty or so fanfics.
“Thirty thousand words?” She breathed. “THEY’VE HAD FOUR DAYS! HOW DID THEY GET THIS FAR?”
The majority of the fanfics were RenaChat, for obvious they-are-the-main-heroes-of-Paris-and-are-basically-inevitable-as-a-couple reasons. But for some reason, that made her stomach curl.
A loud thud came from above her head as two superheroes fell through her trapdoor. And then proceeded to fall down her ladder.
“Missed us?” Chat Noir asked, offering his hand to his partner.
“I didn’t think you were coming,” she grinned.
“Nice to see you again, too,” Rena Rouge ignored Chat’s attempted chivalry and got up on her own, wandering aimlessly around her room.
“Hey, Chat!” She called, spotting Marinette’s sketches of a poster of the two heroes that she wanted to design. “Look at this!”
“Whoa!” Chat breathed. “This is really good.”
He squinted at the civilians in the sketch. “Did you… draw yourself?”
Marinette flushed. “Yeah. As a civilian. I just thought it would be a fun hidden reference.”
“It’s cool!” He grinned.
“Are you reading RenaChat fanfiction?” Rena Rouge asked, materalzing on the other side of her and peering over her other shoulder. She wrinkled her nose.
“You’re reading WHAT?” Chat Noir screeched, ears flat against his head.
Marientte quickly tried to close out of the tab on her computer. And ended up bookmarking the site. “I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
Both of the heroes stared at her skeptically.
Marinette sighed. “Okay, fine. I was. But I was bored.”
“So, you don’t ship it then,” Chat asked.
The heroes both looked completely betrayed by this possibility. Although Chat looked more horrified.
“Of course not,” she reassured them. “I’m not really a big fan of this whole shipping thing.”
Marinette kept the ‘Except Alyno’ to herself.
“RenaChat is just the only kind of fanfiction for you two out right now,” she explained, scrolling past the fics.
Both heroes stepped closer, watching with the horrified fascination of someone watching a train wreck.
“Is that rated E?” Rena Rouge paled. “I’m fourteen! Why would someone write an E rated fic about me!”
“Actually, that’s an Adrichat fic,” Marinette corrected.
“People ship me with Adrien Agreste ?” Chat Noir looked like he was deciding between laughing or gagging.
“Apparently.”
“That’s it!” The fox heroine declared when she spotted the 20K RenaXY fic. “We’re solving this right now.”
“How?” Chat Noir asked.
“By writing our own historically accurate fanfics,” Rena explained. “Obviously.”
Marinette and Chat sent eachother a glance as the fox heroine cracked her knuckles.
“Everyone, grab a notebook.” She ordered. “Marinette, you get the computer.”
She shoved a pen into her partner’s hand. “Marinette, you’re on coffee shop AU duty. Chat, you write about a made up akuma fight, but DON’T GIVE HAWKMOTH ANY IDEAS!”
“Is she always like this?” Marinette whispered as Rena Rouge dug through her drawers for a second notebook.
“Yep, but I’ve learned to just roll with it,” he whispered. “She’ll be over it soon.”
“I CAN HEAR YOU,” the fox heroine reminded them, pointing to her ears as they flicked across the room at the sound of a creak in the walls.
“What about you?” Marinette asked.
Rena Rouge grinned. “That’s for me to know and you to find out.”
