Jungkook is excited to bring his boyfriend of 8 months home for Christmas. He talked endlessly about Seokjin to his parents. His parents were just happy to see that Jungkook has found someone who brings out the best in him. It was a big deal for Jungkook to bring home a boyfriend because he was so close to his parents. You had to be worthy of meeting them. None of his exes had even come close to hitting the mark. But Seokjin exceeded every expectation. Not only was he worthy of meeting them, but he was supposed to meet them.
The two of them loaded up Jungkook’s car with their many suitcases and bags, and then their trip began. It was about a three-hour drive to Jungkook’s childhood home, so of course, they had to make a playlist. The pair spent several weeks curating the perfect soundtrack for their drive; a collection of love songs, pop anthems, and ballads to scream along to. They held hands through the whole drive, except for moments when one would point out something in the scenery. Over the course of the three hours, there was karaoke, games of i-spy, insightful conversations, and many many I love yous.
Seokjin was a little nervous to meet Jungkook’s parents, despite how many times Jungkook told him his parents were excited to meet him. He knew how highly valued Jungkook’s parents were to him and he would hate to do anything to strain that special relationship. Seokjin had a tendency to overthink and stress himself out, and Jungkook knew how to spot the building tension within Seokjin. Jungkook placed a kiss on Seokjin’s hand and gave him a knowing look. He didn’t have to say anything for Seokjin to know what he meant. This helped him calm down a bit and he decided to get out of his head and enjoy the moment.
They arrived at Jungkook’s home and were greeted with his two eager parents standing on their front porch waving as they pulled into the driveway. Seokjin politely introduced himself and thanked Jungkook’s parents for having him, holding his hand out for a handshake, but was instead met with a warm hug from Jungkook’s mother. He also received the same warm hug from Jungkook’s dad while Jungkook caught up with his mom. His dad brought all their luggage into the house and his mom made them tea while they conversed in the living room.
Jungkook’s home was cozy. It was smaller than what he was used to, growing up with two older brothers, but it was nice. It made sense for the person that Jungkook is, and the people his parents are.
After a couple of minutes of conversation, Jungkook and Seokjin decided to go upstairs and recover from their trip. Somehow the sleeping arrangement never crossed his mind, so as they’re walking up the stairs he asks Jungkook if they would sleep together or if Seokjin should stay in the guest bedroom. It becomes obvious that the first option would be the case when Jungkoook looks at Seokjin like he’s asked the dumbest question. Of course, it made sense for them to sleep in the same bed, but he wanted to be a respectful guest.
A few hours go by and the couple has cleaned up and had plenty of time to rest up. Seokjin can smell a home-cooked dinner being prepared downstairs and tells Jungkook they should help. Seokjin loves to cook, so he’s always happy to be in the kitchen. Jungkook’s mother first insists that Seokjin is the guest and shouldn’t work, but that gets thrown out as soon as Seokjin starts chopping vegetables and tasting the food. Jungkook is beyond happy at the sight of his mother and boyfriend cooking together. Things are as they should be. He feels at peace with his life.
They eat dinner and Seokjin helps clean up. They play card games for a while after and then it’s time for them to sleep.
While lying in his childhood bed, Seokjin next to him, Jungkook can’t help but cry tears of happiness. He was so overwhelmed with joy from the night. Seokjin worriedly asks if he’s okay and Jungkook just kisses him. He tells himself that Seokjin is the man he’s going to marry.
