Work Text:

The reds and golds of the grand ballroom contrast with the deep blue ocean above, creating a mesmerizing sight. The reinforced glass, polished since my last visit, separates us from the immense pressure of the ocean, allowing the deformed rays of moonlight to gently caress the room, casting cosmic patterns over the entire amphitheatre.

As I glance across the room, taking in the bustling crowd, memories of past encounters flood my mind. Adjusting the vibrant purple fabric of my new dress, Ant walks up beside me, dressed impeccably for the occasion. The past couple of years have been eventful, filled with reconciliations and rebuilding relationships with the various inhabitants of the sea. Ant's voice breaks the reverie, recalling a humorous incident from our shared adventures.

"Remember that one time when we were accused of stealing priceless art?" Ant chuckles, his eyes gleaming. "And that other time when Alpheus nearly killed all of us by breaking into the Arronax and nearly flooding it?"

A smile dances across my lips as I lock eyes with him. "Yeah, I remember. How about that one time when you and Maddy found yourselves stuck together in 'the red claw' for a couple of hours?"

Ant turns away as his cheeks flush with a tinge of embarrassment. "Shut up, Fontaine. That was years ago."

Laughter escapes us both, echoing through the grand hall as we reminisce. I take a sip of my champagne, placing the now empty glass on a passing waiter's tray, marvelling at how we managed to gather everyone here without creating a fuss.

Ant's gaze wanders toward the crowd, watching my younger brother. He has grown into an extraordinary young man over the years, though I would never admit it to him. Ant turns his attention back to me, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.

"You know what, Fontaine?"

I raise an eyebrow, waiting for his next words.

Ant smirks and continues, "We've come a long way. From our daring escapades to forging new alliances, it's incredible how far we've journeyed together."

A sense of pride swells within me as I meet his gaze. "Indeed, we have. And we owe much of it to our shared experiences and unwavering determination. And of course, my amazing sense of humour."

Ant huffs and rolls his eyes. “Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Oh, I'm going to go talk to Jess. Bye!”

I give a small laugh as I watch him fangirl over my best friend. “Some things never change.”

Suddenly, my attention is captured by Finn, standing tall in his sleek black suit on the other side of the room. His hair frames his angular cheekbones perfectly, and for some reason, my cheeks begin to blush. The warmth spreads through my face.

Did he always have this effect on me?

Unable to resist the pull, I find myself moving towards him as if entranced. Navigating through the crowd with ease, I narrowly avoid colliding with Glacius before finally standing before Finn, the charismatic pirate.

"Hey, Fontaine," he greets me with his trademark pirate smirk. "I see you can't resist my charms anymore."

I respond quickly, thanking my quick wit for saving me. "Charms? What charms? You're just the only person in here who doesn't wear a uniform and talk like they're trying to put me to sleep."

Finn raises an eyebrow, his gaze fixed on me. "So, you think I'm interesting?"

I return his gaze with a playful smile. "No, it's just that your conversation is refreshingly easy to understand. I could almost tune out the others."

"Ouch," Finn feigns offence, his eyes still sparkling with amusement.

I shrug, my voice laced with a hint of teasing. "What can I say? I have my preferences."

A slight pang of guilt flickers within me, realizing my words may have hurt him. But before I can dwell on it, a mischievous idea takes hold.

"Follow me," I invite him, leading him past the abundant food tables and towards a hidden door concealed behind a supporting structure.

Curiosity etches across Finn's features as he gazes at me in awe. "How did you know this was here?"

"Old habits die hard, I guess," I reply with a smirk. "I may not be a pirate, but I've picked up a few tricks from Ant."

Finn reaches into his pocket, extracting a piece of wire. "I am a pirate, after all. Excuse me, mademoiselle," he jests, deftly manipulating the lock until the door pops open.

"After you," he offers, his eyes filled with anticipation.

"Merci," I respond, playfully curtsying before stepping through the doorway, a radiant smile gracing my face.

Just as I enter, I turn around to find Finn following closely behind me. He extends his arm, and I accept it with a small smile, relishing the unspoken connection between us. As we make our way through the hidden tunnel, I guide his arm, leading us into another room. The space is adorned with an elegant four-poster bed and a luxurious ensuite bathroom off to the side, hinting at the opulence hidden within this secret sanctuary.

Finn's voice breaks the silence, his words laced with a seductive undertone. "Wow, Fontaine. How did you know this was here? And what do you have in mind?"

I chuckle softly, his forwardness both amusing and endearing. "Nothing quite as scandalous as whatever you may be thinking, pirate," I reply, teasingly.

With a mischievous glint in my eyes, I guide him out onto the balcony. From this vantage point, we have a breathtaking view that overlooks the entire grand ballroom on one side, with its vibrant reds and golds and lively atmosphere, while the other side presents a panoramic vista of the vast ocean stretching out into the horizon.

The moon casts its gentle glow over the shimmering waves, creating an enchanting scene that leaves us momentarily speechless.

"Isn't it incredible?" I murmur, leaning against the balcony railing. "To witness the mingling of human celebration and the awe-inspiring power of the sea in such proximity. You know, even though we both live on massive underwater submarines."

Finn joins me at the railing, his presence bringing a comforting warmth to the cool night air. His gaze alternates between the captivating scene before us and my face, silently communicating a depth of understanding.

"It's moments like these that make you appreciate the beauty and grandeur of the world," he remarks, his voice carrying a note of wonder.

I nod, captivated by the shared appreciation of the moment. The unspoken connection between us deepens, creating a comfortable silence as we allow ourselves to immerse in the sheer magnificence surrounding us.

As the night progresses, we find ourselves engaged in quiet conversation, sharing stories, dreams, and aspirations.

Time seems to stand still as we linger on the balcony, absorbing the magical ambience of the evening and the profound connection between us.

As Finn turns to face me, his voice softens with uncertainty. "Hey, umm, Fontaine?" he begins, his words hesitant. "Would you ever... I mean, do you want to... I don't know. Would you be okay if I kissed you?" His hand reaches for mine, his touch gentle yet filled with anticipation.

I find myself momentarily speechless, caught off guard by the vulnerability displayed by this handsome boy before me. The question lingers in the air, and I can feel the flutter of anticipation building within me. "You want to... kiss me?" I manage to utter, my voice tinged with tentativeness.

Finn's eyes meet mine, his gaze filled with a mixture of hope and longing. "Yeah, I mean if you want to-" Before he can finish his sentence, I feel an undeniable surge of courage welling up within me. At that moment, I let instinct guide me, closing the remaining distance between us as our lips meet in a gentle, electrifying kiss.

For an instant, Finn tenses, seemingly surprised by the intensity of our connection. But soon, he responds with equal fervour, wrapping his strong arms around my body, pulling me closer to him. The touch of his lips against mine is surprisingly soft, a delightful contrast to his pirate persona, and it sparks a warmth within me that I've never felt before.

Time seems to stand still as we embrace, lost in the passion of that stolen moment. The world around us fades into insignificance, leaving only the sensation of his arms enveloping me and the rhythmic dance of our shared breaths. It's a kiss that speaks volumes, expressing emotions and desires that words alone could never convey.

As we finally part, our foreheads gently resting against each other, a profound sense of connection lingers in the air. The unspoken promises of adventure and companionship intertwine with the warmth of that stolen kiss, leaving us both breathless and eager to explore the uncharted waters of this newfound bond.

As our lips part, Finn's breathless voice finds its way to my ear, his words laced with a newfound boldness. "How do you feel about going to dinner sometime?" he whispers, his voice filled with anticipation.

I can't help but giggle at the suggestion, considering our current location. "I would say yes, but there aren't many places you can go on a traditional date in the middle of the ocean, is there?" I reply playfully.

A thoughtful expression crosses Finn's face as he ponders the logistical challenge. "That is true, I suppose," he concedes, pulling away slightly to look at me.

A moment of clarity settles between us. "We aren't kids anymore," I remark, my voice carrying a newfound sense of maturity. "We are adults now, capable of making our own decisions. So, I guess you can take me out sometime," I say, sincerity shining through my words.

A genuine smile graces Finn's face as he nods, acknowledging the significance of this moment. "Of course, princess," he replies, his voice filled with a mix of affection and respect.

In that exchange, a new chapter of our story begins to unfold. The grand ballroom and the vast ocean serve as witnesses to this transformative connection we share. With the world as our canvas, we set sail on a journey that encompasses not only thrilling adventures but also tender moments of shared laughter, understanding, and genuine connection.

As we stand there, intertwined amidst the magic of the night, we can't predict the challenges that lie ahead. But armed with newfound confidence and an unbreakable bond, we are ready to navigate the uncharted waters of love and companionship, guided by the stars above and the beating of our hearts.
