Work Text:

Is it possible to keep your dating life from you coworkers, when one of the is your lover? Haru genuinely believed that that only happened in films and he would never have to hide is personal life from people. Until his said personal life happened to also involve Japan's, if not the world's he thought, billioner.

He didn't even dare to think that one day he would call that annoying walking headache his. But life had other plans.

From initial hatred, to constant bickering, working together by force, spending every day in each other's company, to, well, basically being ready to throw their lives in danger to save each other - Daisuke's and his relationship went through a lot of changes.

But he was happy. He was happy to know that he has someone, who is ready to do everything for him. It warms his heart to see the changes in Daisuke's perception of the world. He smiles everytime he sees the other man wearing his cheap sweatpants and a T-shirt that's nearly at a knee length, without the gel in his hair. He loves how Daisuke donates without hesitating, when Haru mentions a new charity he found. He enjoys listening to Suzui talking how happy Mr. Daisuke seemed lately. He is overwhelmed by these nice emotions he's feeling any time he is near Kambe.

Nonetheless, that does not mean that Daisuke stopped being a pain in his ass.

To the outside world, it might seem that nothing in their relationship has changed. They work together as usual, barely interacting. And when they do, it's always one of them (Katou) trying to prove a point and the other (Kambe) not even listening. They argue, ready to bite at each other's throats. They work together on cases as professionals. They still are Katou Haru, the kind-hearted fighter for truth and equality, and Kambe Daisuke, the ignorant Richman, who deals with everything by using money.

Only behind closed doors, of Daisuke's mansion or Haru's flat, do they allow themselves be bravier, freer. You would be surprised to see their text messages. Who could have known that a stoic emotionless billioner uses so many cat emojies? He also, surprisingly, preferres to stay in Katou's apartment. Yes, it is nice to have a lot of space, personal chefs and butlers, but at Haru's he strangely feels more at home. Maybe it's because he gets to wear his boyfriends clothes that are at least 3 sizes bigger then his. Maybe it's Katou's homemade food. Or the way he doesn't have to ask for second portion, Haru just gives him. Maybe it's the warmth he feels, laying in the arms of his boyfriend, because otherwise they wouldn't fit in the bed. Maybe it's how at peace they both feel, just sitting there, watching TV together. It is so incredibly easy to melt into a smiling soft creature, when they are left alone together, at home.

Hidding love life is easy. Or so they think.

As their coworkers definitely notice them eating the same food for lunch. Both of them getting a break and Haru walking back in with a smug face and Kambe smiling. It is not hard to understand that the two policemen are close, when Haru, not so subtly, asks what Daisuke wants to have for dinner, or when Kambe suggests getting Katou a drive home. Every day.

But they say nothing. Their job is not exactly "romance-friendly", so it's good that they have each other.

Kambe Daisuke had never thought about a "normal" life. Katou Haru always despised wealth.

And here they are. Learning to see and understand the other side of the coin. Together, in love.
