Would That I

Summary:

"Quackity, you have to help me find him. You're the only person I can remember who can help. You know him as well as I do. Probably even more."

----------

Or, in which Sapnap goes missing and the only person Karl can think of to help him is Quackity, who, unfortunately, is still bitter about the way Karl treated him in Kinoko Kingdom. Karl ends up convincing him, and together they set off into the wilderness to find their lost love.

Very loosely based on the song "Would That I" by Hozier and recent lore events

Notes:

Hi everyone! This is my first posted fanfiction so it might be a little rough around the edges lmao
This work is based on the song "Would That I" by Hozier (I am ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED with it 1000/10 recommend), not so much the lyrics but the feeling it gives me: deep in the woods in front of a bonfire, catching brief glimpses of something I've lost that turns out to be nothing more than a vision. What better way to make it a story than to make it about my favorite DSMP ship.
Couple headcanons: Karl is aware that every time he time travels, he hurts more of his memory, so he tries not to do it as much. Quackity has wings but they got damaged by Schlatt, making him lame.
Honestly I have no idea where I'm going with this. Might abandon it, might not.
I am extremely busy this week so it is the PERFECT time to start writing a fanfiction /s
I have commitment issues so don't expect updates often, but that being said, I'll try to update as much and as often as possible.
Suggestions welcome! I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1: Fretted Fire But That Was Long Ago

Chapter Text

After what happened in Kinoko Kingdom, the last person Quackity ever wanted to see was Karl. But here he was, nervously standing in the doorway to his ex’s apartment.

‘Yeah, he should be nervous.’ Quackity thought. ‘Its the middle of the night. What the fuck does he want?’

Before he could even open his mouth to tell Karl to get lost, Karl blurted out, “Quackity, listen. I need your help--”

“No, I won’t listen, Karl. You treated me like shit and called me a fucking murderer and now you expect me to help you? Go find George. Or Sapnap. I’m sure he’d be all for helping you. Now, go away.”

“But that's the thing! Quackity, Sapnap’s missing. I don’t know where he is. I haven’t seen him in a week. Maybe more. I can’t remember. I can't take it anymore.”

“Ok, didn’t you hear what I said? Go find George. Or Tina what’s-her-face.”

“They won’t help. Tina’s too new and George is always either sleeping or with Dream XD. He’s not… present anymore. He’s off in a different world. You’re the only one who can help me, Quackity. You know him as well as I do. Probably better.”

“Then do it yourself! I don’t understand why you need my help!”

“I can’t do it on my own! I can’t manage! Look,” Karl sighed. “I’m sorry for what I said to you. It was wrong of me. After you left, Sapnap confronted me. He said I had the entire thing misconstrued and I didn’t know what I was talking about. I see now that he was right.” Quackity began to speak, but Karl held up his hand, silencing him. “I know you won’t forgive me right now. You don’t even need to forgive me, ever. Just… please. Help me look for him. You two are the only ones I have left, but I’ve lost you. I just can’t lose him, too.”

Quackity stared at him, contemplating, and after a few moments, he silently shut the door. Exhausted and feeling like he might cry, Karl leaned against it, praying for Quackity to change his mind. Thank the Gods Above and Below, his prayers were answered when he almost fell flat on his face as his ex opened the door again.

“Fine. But I’m doing this for Sapnap, not you. Sapnap was the one who wanted me in Kinoko Kingdom. He wanted me to stay. Not you. Now I don’t know what the fuck happened to you, but I really fucking hope you’ve fucking changed. If not, you better fucking get it in check or I’m turning around and finding Sapnap myself.”

“Fine, fine, fine. I- Thank you. So much.” Karl faltered, wanting to hug him, kiss him, do something to show his appreciation. But he reluctantly resisted, not knowing what Quackity would do. Instead, he asked, “So, when do you want to start?”
