Work Text:
Izuku opened the door to the class 2A dorms to be met with a gust of crisp winter air. A fresh layer of snow lay on the ground and the cold bit at his exposed face, but that wouldn’t stop the young man from going on his morning run. Izuku did a few stretches before running down the path. He felt great about today. It was a Saturday morning and the first day of winter break. He was finally going to take time to relax and have fun. As he ran down the path he saw what looked like a pile of clothes sitting in the snow. Getting closer he saw the pile was actually crouching down. A floating stick poking the ground.
“Hagakure? What are you doing out here so early?” Izuku jogged in place as he greeted the invisible girl.
“Oh.. Hey Midoriya… Nothing. Just being stood up is all.” She lightly tossed the stick on the ground. Izuku’s heart broke at the sadness in her voice. Her happy go lucky attitude was something Izuku looked forward to each time they were in class.
“Are you serious? Whoever stood you up is a jerk! I remember seeing your face when Aoyama attacked me. You are breathtakingly beautiful! Your kinda curly white hair, your sparkling blue eyes, and you are so happy! I just can’t believe someone would turn you down.” His mouth spoke before his brain could process the words. Izuku instantly started blushing up a storm. Izuku couldn’t tell, but his invisible friend was blushing just as hard.
“Well that’s not what I was expecting. I didn’t think anyone saw my face during that moment. Does that mean you saw everything?!!” She normally had no shame, but normally people can’t see her.
“Um, I don't think I did. It was all a blur. If I did see anything I don’t remember it.” Izuku’s face felt hot from his blush. “Come on, let's get some hot chocolate. I know you like caramel and this place can drizzle caramel on the hot chocolate.” He held out a hand that was gently grabbed by Hagakure.
“How..? How did you know I like caramel?” She kept hold of Izuku’s hand as they walked.
“Oh. I remember you talking to Ashido when we first moved into the dorms about how much you like caramel. I don’t know. That just stuck with me I guess.” He shrugged slightly as they walked down a hill. “Oh it’s slippery here. Hold on.” He gently scooped her into his arms and began to float down the hill so they wouldn’t fall. Hagakure couldn’t take her eyes off of Izuku. He was being such a gentleman towards her. She had butterflies in her stomach and her heart fluttered while in his arms.
“Wow…” She whispered. Izuku was so strong yet his touch felt so soft and kind. Izuku sat her down once they got to the bottom of the hill. Now missing the contact their hands previously had she reached out and held the young hero’s hand. The two walked in silence for a bit. Izuku didn’t mind holding on to Hagakure’s hand.
“Here we are!” He held the door open and smiled at Hagakure. “After you.” The simple gesture made Hagakure’s heart melt. How was he so good at turning a bad day into a good one? Once inside Izuku went and ordered while Hagakure found a table in the corner. Izuku came back with two cups of hot chocolate. His was plain, but the one he got for Hagakure was hot chocolate with marshmallows and a caramel drizzle.
“Why are you so perfect?” She absent mindedly said while staring at the drink.
“Well that’s just how my mom raised me.” Izuku chuckled while rubbing the back of his head.
“No, but like. How do you know what I like? We never talk a whole lot.”
“Oh well I like you. People seemed to not notice you during training, but I always do. All year this year I can’t really stop myself from glancing over at you.” He tried hiding his face in his sleeves.
“I wasn’t expecting that. I can’t believe that someone so amazing likes me. Well it’s safe to say I like you too. I just winked at you by the way!” She softly caressed Izuku’s hand. “You could call me Toru. If you wanted that is. Hahaha we’ve been in the same class for over a year. After all the stuff we’ve been through I think we are on a first name basis.”
“Haha that is true. You can call me Izuku then.” The two sat and talked for about two hours. Occasionally getting refills, or even a snack or two. Seeing the time they decided to head back. Later that day class 2A would be exchanging gifts for secret Santa. Izuku was hyped for the evening. He drew Toru’s name this year. The gift he had for her was a special mirror designed by Mei Hatsume. Unlike other mirrors it could bend and reflect light so that anyone with invisible type quirks could see themselves clearly.
“Oh my gosh it’s been absolutely amazing hanging out with you Izuku! I can’t wait to hangout tonight!” Toru beamed as she entered the dorm. Grabbing a hold of his arm she spun around in the common room. Most of the class were down there to witness this.
“Oooooo looks like we got some more love birds!” Mina Ashido cooed. “Aww!!! You guys could go on a double date with Momo and Todoroki!!!”
“That’s not it, Ashido. Toru and I are just friends.” A few of the girls giggled at his statement.
“For now.” Toru whispered into his ear. Izuku blushed, but who was he really trying to fool? He knew he liked her, and that she liked him. No one else could see it but she kissed Izuku on the cheek after whispering into his ear. Everyone went their separate ways so presents could be wrapped and to set up everything for the party. Izuku went up to his room to triple check that Toru’s present wouldn’t break. Feeling nervous for some reason, Izuku called a couple of people for advice.
“Hey Hatsume! You’re 10000% sure this will work?”
“Yep I sure am, Muscles! You’re going to knock her socks off with this baby!” Izuku thanked the mad scientist and went down the list of people to call. His mom and All Might gave sound advice. Both told him to be himself because she already likes him. Mirio just told him to go with his gut. Putting her gift in a small bag with tissue paper, Izuku went down stairs to help set up the party. Upon entering the common room the green haired hero saw a large part of the set up was already done.
“Iida really went plus ultra with the decorations this year huh, Deku?” Uraraka asked her best friend while floating to hang up a wreath on the wall. She landed beside him with a soft bounce. “I can’t believe he was able to get this much stuff so fast! So…” She looked at Izuku expectantly.
“Yeah he’s incredible! So?” He cocked his head to the side and furrowed his brow.
“Don’t you dare play dumb with me of all people mister! You and Toru! You’ve practically been smitten with her ever since you saw her face! For two whole months all you would talk about is how pretty she is! So don’t you cock your head in confusion at me. Hmpf!” She crossed her with righteous indignation.
“Geez Ocha. No one can pull the wool over your eyes that’s for sure. At the moment we like each other, but that’s it. For now.” He finished by quoting what Toru said earlier.
“Mhm. You keep telling yourself that Deku! I’ll be here to say I called it when you finally decided to ask her out.”
“Well I think we technically went on a date this morning.” He scratched the back of his head nervously.
“Details. Now.” Ochaco beamed, wanting to hear about it.
“Well there is this little seasonal store off campus that’s only open around Christmas. They sell hot chocolate and stuff. It was a nice cozy morning with her.”
“Oi nerd! Can you come help me and Kirishima with this tree?” Bakugo said as he and Kirishima drug a massive pine tree inside.
“Sure thing Kacchan! I’ll tell you more later, Ocha.” He ran over to help his two friends stand up the tree.
“You better tell me about it!” She called after him. “Oh those two are definitely dating. Even if they don’t know it.”
“Ok Izuku use Black Whip to put the bulbs all over the tree. Make it look even. Best Jeanist told me evenly placing decorations on a Christmas tree makes it look better.”
“When did you and Best Jeanist have that conversation?” Izuku asked while placing the bulbs on the tree.
“About 20 minutes ago. He’s the one that helped us get the tree.” About another hour of decorating and the class was ready for the party.
“Alright everyone! Time to exchange gifts with your secret Santas!” Iida called out to the whole class. Now was his chance. Izuku waited until he had received his gift; a golden age All Might mug, and for her to deliver her gift. Izuku walked over to her and lightly tapped her shoulder.
“Wow I can’t believe you got me Izuku!” She happily jumped up and down as he handed her the bag. She reached and pulled out the special mirror. “A mirror? Not to sound ungrateful, but a mirror for me is kinda… umm… useless…” Izuku laughed and smiled at her.
“Press this.” He clicked on the mirror. Instantly it did its job.
“Is that… my face..?” She stood slack jawed looking at her reflection for the first time. Tears poured down her face. “My face. How? What? Oh my god..” The tears turned to sobs of joy as she got to see herself. The crying got the attention of the other girls who came over to see what was going on.
“Oh my! Toru you look quite lovely.” Momo said once she saw the reflection.
“Wow you’re a total cutie!” Mina said as she hugged her friend.
“No wonder Deku won’t stop talking about how beautiful you are! For a while he talked more about you than heroics.” Toru laughed at her own blush.
“Blue eyes…. White hair… you weren’t kidding Izuku. I can’t thank you enough. This tops anything ever! The only way I can repay you is with this.” She leaned in and gave him a passionate kiss on the lips. “Izuku you are amazing.” Toru couldn’t look away from the mirror.
“I’m glad you like it. I got Hatsume to make it.” He smiled brightly at her joy.
For the rest of the night the two sat on the couch staring at Toru’s reflection. That one present was the foundation of their relationship. Neither knew it, but they would spend the rest of their lives together.
