Chapter Text
Thinking back on it, Peter and I should have realized right away that Murdock would be the first one to figure it out. And with Murdock comes Nelson obviously. I just wished the official figuring it out would’ve happened a bit differently.
The day starts off fairly normal, really it does. Peter wakes up with a pounding headache and some new bruises on his side. He sighs and goes to the bathroom to check on them. As he looks at the pale skin splotched with dark blues and blacks he can’t help but roll his eyes.
“Really Spidey?? Really? Couldn’t avoid getting hit again?” He says outloud in his empty bathroom.
‘To be fair it’s not my fault. Petey was near front and we got distracted.’ was the response Peter’s comment got from inside his head.
“Whatever. I’m thinking about lunch with Matt and Fogs, what do you think?”
‘Just be careful and have fun. I think I’m going to take a power nap.’
“Alright, Spidey. Have fun,”
And with that Peter walks out of his bathroom to get his phone and text Matt and Foggy to meet him for lunch. They both say yes (of course they would; Peter has them wrapped around his finger) and so Peter sets off to get on the subway to make it to Hell’s Kitchen in time for lunch.
Matt and Foggy are already sitting at the restaurant when Peter gets there. The subway ride over had made him begin to dissociate but he tries to ignore it and swallow down any feelings related to it.
“Hey guys! How’s your day going?!” Peter says waving at the older men with one hand while the other grips the bottom of his shirt like a lifeline.
“Hey Pete! It’s been a pretty slow day at the office, what have you been up to all day?” Foggy responds as the group meanders towards a table and sits down.
“Oh, you know, just sitting around and stuff,” Peter knows that he wasn’t the first person to wake up the body this morning. It had been awake earlier but he couldn’t remember who was out or what happened. All he knows is that they had texted the men sitting across from him and he didn’t know anything about that. He starts to bite at his lip and panic a bit as his heart skips a beat.
“Peter, is everything alright? Your heart skipped a beat,” Matt says, concern in his voice.
‘Yeah, no shit sherlock,’ Spider rolls his eyes as he comes into co-consciousness.
“Uhhh-Yea-yeah! I’m ok….” Peter trails off as his head shifts forward ever so slightly and he stares blankly at the edge of the table. He panics but it doesn’t show in his body other than the slight increase in heart rate before it flattens out again.
‘Spider! If this is you please just leave! Please please please!’ He yells into the headspace as his vision blurs between the view of the outside world and the system’s front room.
‘Uhhh.. yeah.. So we kind of have an issue here,’ Spider responds as Peter hears a child’s laugh.
‘Oh god. Oh no. Petey! Please please please go back to Wesley!’
‘But-Wessy says I can have turn!’
And just like that the body’s head is shooting back up and smiling widely.
“Oh my gosh! Peter, are you ok?! What’s wrong?!” Foggy instantly asks, fretting over the boy in front of him.
“Oh! Hi Mr Fogs!! Peter not here right now! Only me!!” Petey smiles even wider and flaps his hand at Foggy as if trying to wave.
Matt proceeds to stand up and say, “Maybe we should take this back to my apartment,”
“Okey dokey! Mr Matties! Did Peter ever tell you you smell like roses?! Cause you really really do! Peter and me and Spider and Wes and the others really like it!” Petey spits out the words as he grabs one of Foggy’s hands with one hand and one of Matt’s with the other.
They make it to Matt’s apartment quicker than they ever have.
“Ok kid, I’m going to call Claire to come see if you’ve got a concussion or something,” Matt says pulling his phone.
“No! No! Mr Matties if you has questions you is supposed to calls Auntie!” Petey blows a raspberry at Matt after saying this,
“Ok kiddo! Matt’s going to go do that and we’re going to sit here ok? Are you feeling nauseous or anything like that?” Foggy says as Matt walks into his bedroom to make the call.
“No Mr Fogs! I feel better than I do normals!”
“Ok, and what’s your aunt going to say about this?”
“Well Auntie can explain about the disorder, silly goose! She can come gets me after work and then I can go colors and play with my blocks and watch cartoons and eat snackies!!”
Foggy seems to buffer for a moment before opening his mouth to say something. Matt walks back in just in time to cut him off. He holds the phone in his hand, the call on speakerphone. He seems upset.
“Hello Foggy, I hope you’re doing alright today,” May says through the phone. She pauses a moment before continuing, “Petey, kiddo, is anyone else near front with you?”
“Auntie! Hi!! No ones ‘rounds! Peter and Spidey were tireds so Wessy saids I gets to fronts!”
“And does he know you aren’t at home?” May asks exasperated.
“Well-no-buts! It’s okays! Cause I like Mr Fogs! Mr Matties supers awesomes too!!” Petey rocks back and forth slightly as he talks back and forth with his aunt.
“Sorry to interrupt but what exactly is going on here?” Foggy interjects before the conversation can keep going.
“My nephew, Peter, has dissociative identity disorder. He experienced a few bad things when he was younger and was never able to properly heal from it. I’m so sorry that you all found out this way, not because Petey’s a bad alter to meet but just because I know he can be a lot,” May starts to explain.
“Hey! Rudes! But ye! Auntie’s rights! When we was mys age bad stuffs happeneds and so now I am here! And so is Spideys and Wessie!!”
“Oh. I see. So Petey here would be a little? Right? I think that’s what they’re called. Man, really should have paid more attention to Psych,” Foggy speaks up. Matt just stands there, shaking slightly.
“Yea! That’s what I ams!!” Petey cheers and does jazz hands.
Someone speaks in the background of May’s call and she sighs softly before beginning to speak, “I know this is a lot to take in all at once but I need to get back to work and Petey’s not allowed outside without supervision. I really hate to ask but will you two watch over him until either I get off or someone else switches in?”
Foggy begins to speak but is cut off by Matt.
“Yes. No matter what, we'll always be here for them. Are there any specific rules we should be aware of while taking care of Petey?” He says.
“Oh! Thank you so much! And yes, if you’re going to feed him he’ll tell you what he likes but some general guidelines to go off of are to try and limit sweets and caffeine. And he’s not allowed near sharp objects. And just try your hardest to keep him off the ceiling,” May says, “I really do have to go now! Bye Foggy! Bye Matt! Thank you so much! And Petey behave!”
And with that Petey is left to be cared for by Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson, two men who never saw their lives being this crazy.
Later that night when Spider took over for patrol, he would be told that Matt’s known for a while now and he and Foggy would always be there to help with anything.
