"Montgomery?"
"Aye, love?"
"Could you-" Leonard looked down at the little wrapped gift in his hands. God, he was buzzing with anticipation. "-could you come here?"
"Coming," Montgomery said with some urgency. Leonard didn't often call Montgomery like that, and usually it meant he'd done something. Leonard smiled softly, knowing he was so lucky for having such an attentive boyfriend. They'd been going more than half a year strong now, and Leonard wanted to reward Montgomery's time with this gift.
Montgomery came out from the bathroom and looked at Leonard expectantly. "What is it, mo ghràdh?"
"I have something for you," Leonard smiled softly. "Just a little something to celebrate the holidays."
Montgomery frowned. "Ah didn't get ye one."
But Leonard just shook his head. "No, no, this was a surprise. I remember you telling me you didn't have many presents when you were a kid.
I wanted to give you this."
He pressed the box, which was about the size of his palm, into Scotty's hand.
Scotty's eyebrows raised in curiosity and he took the box, gently unwrapping it. He gasped when he saw what it was: an old ticking watch.
"Leannan..." He whispered after a moment. Montgomery raised it to the light to examine, and then to his ear, listening to it. "This is beautiful. Where did ye get this?"
"It's a family heirloom," Leonard admitted. "I thought it'd look best on your wrist."
Montgomery was grinning now and Leonard felt something warm course through him. The Engineer cupped his face and kissed him passionately, something the doctor was quick to return.
"This is amazing, Len," Montgomery whispered against his lips. "Ah love you so much."
"I love you, darlin'," Leonard whispered back and kissed his boyfriend again. Montgomery would certainly make up for Leonard's gift that night.
