Work Text:
Leonard couldn't find the strength to rise out of bed. It was one of those days where everything seemed to be an impossible task. He had to get up for his shift soon, but his limbs felt heavy and weren't cooperating, so instead he sat there for the longest time, trying to find the best approach to take on the day.
When that wasn't working, he turned his attention to his sleeping partner, who was laying on his side, turned toward him. Montgomery looked so peaceful in sleep, even as he snored softly through his slightly agape mouth. The doctor moved some strands of hair out of his lover's face, his fingers coming down to gently trace his cheek bones.
Montgomery was so warm, as he was bound to be as a Scot. He was as warm-blooded as you could get, which helped when Leonard was cold at night and snuggled up to the oven that was his partner. Montgomery was soft, all around. With soft curves and smoothed edges. And his heart was soft and open to all who earned his trust.
Leonard was one of the lucky ones, he supposed. Getting to witness such a beautiful sight every morning. Montgomery's eyes fluttered when Leonard pressed a quick kiss to the tip of his nose, and the engineer smiled sleepily.
"Morning, mo chridhe," Montgomery whispered in his baritone voice. His eyes remained closed, even when Leonard kissed his forehead.
"Morning, darling," Leonard said back and smiled when Montgomery's hand brushed his cheek and Leonard leaned into the warmth.
"We should probably get up or we'll miss our shift," Leonard sighed after a moment, even though he absolutely didn't want to. He wanted to relax and stay here with his boyfriend, never to leave again. He was sure it was actually nothing, but his limbs did feel strangely heavy today and a headache was festering in the back of his mind.
Montgomery seemed to pick up on these subtle signs and frowned. "Are ye alright?"
"Fine," Leonard grumbled half-heartedly. He tried to will his mind to get up and somehow his body wasn't cooperating.
Montgomery's lips pressed to his forehead, and Leonard sighed softly in contentment.
"Ye're burning up, love."
Leonard opened his eyes, unaware when he closed them in the first place. "What?"
"Ye feel really warm to me."
"I'm fine," Leonard protested, pushing the blankets back and getting ready to get up. But his limbs were noncooperative and so he just stayed in bed and shivered.
"Mm." Montgomery noted this too. "Looks like your body doesn't think so."
"Fine," Leonard groaned, although he was absolutely relieved that he didn't have to go anywhere. He pulled the covers back around himself. "You should probably get going."
"Ah've got some work to do, but Ah promise Ah'll be back soon, okay?"
"Of course, babe," Leonard sighed, and Montgomery squeezed him tightly before eventually getting up for his shift.

Montgomery came back to their quarters to find Leonard on the couch watching old christmas cartoons. He must've been really bored to key up something like that on the holoscreen. Or maybe he just wanted to enjoy the day as best as he could.
Montgomery silently took off his shoes and cuddled up next to his boyfriend, who snuggled up to him as if he'd never left.
