Sasha groaned, throwing herself onto the couch.
“Long day?” Marcy asked, walking in from the kitchen. Sasha just nodded. She threw a pillow over her head.
“Retail sucks.”
Marcy clicked her tongue sympathetically. She kneeled down on the rug next to Sasha and set the plate she was holding down.
“Cookies?” Sasha asked, perking up. Her one good eye appeared from underneath the pillow. Marcy nodded.
“Fresh for you.” Sasha reached a hand out. Marcy pulled the plate back. “If you take the pillow off.”
Sasha groaned and buried deeper into the couch. Marcy giggled. “C’mon, Sashy. Don’t you want a cookie?” she teased. She moved the plate along the couch so Sasha could smell it.
“What kind?”
“Oatmeal raisin.” Sasha threw the pillow off her head. Marcy laughed. “That’s what I thought.”
Sasha grabbed two cookies off the plate and shoved both into her mouth at the same time. Marcy smiled, nose scrunching up adorably as she watched her girlfriend. Sasha looked up at her, smiling now.
“You’re the best,” she said around a mouthful of cookies.
Marcy reached up and ruffled her short hair. “Nah, that’s you.”
“No way,” Sasha said, shaking her head and sending cookie crumbs flying.
“Yes way!! You’re amazing!”
“No, you are, liebling, ” Sasha said, swallowing and putting her hands on Marcy’s face. Marcy smiled sadly.
“You saved Amphibia. You were their hero. Not me, I was the ultimate villain. What did I do but destory it?” she asked, tears springing up in her eyes.
Sasha frowned. “Come here.” She gently pulled Marcy into her arms and helped her to her feet, pulling her into her lap. She adjusted so they both sat comfortably on the couch, Marcy in Sasha’s lap and curled up against her chest. Sasha dragged her fingers through Marcy’s hair for a minute.
“You are amazing. And incredible. And strong. And beautiful. And I love you so, so much. Okay?” Sasha turned Marcy’s head to look at her.
Marcy sniffled. “But I’m not…” she protested.
“No, none of that. Let’s talk.”
Marcy wiped at her eyes and sniffled. “Okay…”
“For starters, you saved Sprig. You risked your life to save him because you knew how much he means to Anne.”
“It was all my fault it happened in the first place!” Marcy cried.
Sasha sighed sadly. “We’re not talking about that right now. We’re talking about the good things.”
“You defeated those barbari-ants too. Remember that?” Sasha asked, swiping a thumb over Marcy’s face to wipe her tears. Marcy nodded.
“You weren’t even there for that,” she laughed tearfully.
“I’m always there, watching your every move,” Sasha joked. Marcy giggled and dropped her head to Sasha’s chest. Sasha cradled her, rocking her softly. “Let’s see… you survived getting stabbed, broke free from the possession of an eldritch god, and saved me from those falling beams,” Sasha listed.
“But I blinded you!” Marcy wailed. Sasha grabbed her face gently. She locked eyes with her, brushing her bangs out of her face.
“It wasn’t you. Say it with me. It. Wasn’t. You.”
“It wasn’t… me.”
Sasha tightened her hold on Marcy. Marcy hid her face in Sasha’s shirt, squeezing her eyes shut to try to keep herself from crying. Sasha rubbed her back.
“Shhh… It’s okay, I’m right here, it’s okay, I’ve got you,” she comforted. Marcy choked on a sob and whimpered. Sasha hugged her tighter. “It’s okay, let it out. Let it out, my sweet girl.” Sasha nuzzled the top of Marcy’s head and continued to rub her back. Minutes passed, Marcy crying into Sasha’s chest and Sasha just holding her.
“Will you sing to me?” Marcy asked through her tears. Sasha smiled.
“Of course, meine Liebe.” Sasha took a deep breath and kissed Marcy’s forehead.
" lass die andern sich verändern, und bleib so wie du bist
so wie du bist
so wie du bist
lass die andern sich verändern, und bleib so wie du bist
ich mag dich so wie du bist
ich brauch dich so wie du bist
lass die andern sich verändern, und bleib so wie du bi-i-ist."
(let the other change themselves and stay the way you are
the way you are
the way you are
let the others change themselves and stay the way you are
I like you the way you are,
I need you the way you are
let the others change themselves and stay the way you are)
“Can I tell you another thing?” Sasha asked.
“Uh huh,” Marcy mumbled, sniffling and wiping at her nose with her sleeve.
“You are so incredibly strong. You went through so much, and you’re still here. You learned to walk again after everything, beat the brain damage, relearned hundreds of skills, you did it. You fought so hard, and you’re still here. You’re still here. You won.”
Marcy let out choked sniffles, then she laughed. She grabbed Sasha’s hand in her own. She coughed.
“We won.”
Sasha beamed. “Yeah, baby, We won.”
Moments passed, the girls sitting in silence in each others company.
"Do you think they would be proud of us?" Marcy asked.
"Who, Mar Mar?" Sasha brushed back Marcy's hair.
"Baby Sasha and Marcy. Would they be proud?"
Sasha thought about it. She kissed Marcy's temple.
"Yeah. I think they would be proud."
