Chapter Text
Prologue: The Call
Noceda Household
It had been a couple of weeks since Luz had returned home. The Emperor was beat, and everything was finally peaceful.
Tonight, Luz was having King, Eda, and of course, Amity, over for dinner, a weekly get together that she always looked forward to. Not only that, she and Amity were going to be discussing plans for Luz and Amity to go on a nice, fun trip…
A trip that shall give them something to do while Luz’s human school got repaired, since it was recently… damaged.
That’s besides the point, after all, with all the stress of the Boiling Isles behind her, it would be fun to show Amity around!
Of course though, bragging about how awesome her girlfriend was took top priority, like always.
“And then she said ‘You have a way of sneaking into people’s hearts!’ and then BOOM! Kiss on the cheek!” Luz said, finishing telling the story of how Amity changed her hair color.
“Awwww…” Camilla said.
“It was cute the first time she told the story, but then she began telling it like, weekly after they got together…” Eda groaned out.
“So what did you do after that? I guess that is when you two got together?” Vee asked.
“Well, it was a little bit before that happened, but let’s just say I was busy trying to figure out how to ask her out, while also getting home.” Luz explained. “Oh, and some other wacky adventures!”
“Like? I didn’t really see you again until that night so…”
“I think the only ‘wacky adventure’ you went on was when you met Hunter, right?” King asked. “Or am I forgetting something.”
“Hmmm… actually, there was that one time we tried that one portal making spell, remember that Eda?” Luz asked.
“Portal making spell?” Amity asked. “Like, before we got the Titan’s Blood?”
“Yeah, in retrospect, it was doomed to fail…” Eda said. “We ended up in some frog world.”
“Frog world? Sounds nice!” Camilla said. Being a vet, this world intrigued her.
“We almost got eaten by a giant badger.” Luz said bluntly. “But me and some friends we made there kicked it’s butt!”
“Oh yeah! That other human girl.” Eda said. “You two really connected.”
“Yeah… we did.” Luz said. “We never got to have that slumber party…”
Amity’s questioning look told Eda all she needed to know. “The portal was closing and we did not feel like getting stuck there.”
“Man… I wonder if Anne ever found her way home…”
“Well, can’t you find out?” Vee asked. “With that internet thing?”
“Hey yeah! That’s a great idea!” Luz said as she got up. “Let me get my laptop!”
Luz quickly sprinted up to her room, before returning.
“Ok, so… first things first, let’s try social media!” Luz said before doing just that. “Let’s see… Anne… uh… what was her last name again?”
…
“Ok, this is going to be harder than I thought… maybe something that could narrow down the search?” Vee asked.
“Well, if I was her parents, I would of put in a missing daughter claim… so…”
“Check online for any missing girls named Anne!” Luz said before searching google.
About twenty minutes later, they felt defeated.
“Welp, we went through every case of a missing child named Anne, but none of them looked like her…” Luz said defeated.
“Let’s not give up! Think, what haven’t we tried?” Amity asked.
“Hmmm… wait a minute…” Camilla said. “Oh! Why don’t we search for a different spelling of her name?”
“Huh?”
“Look.” Camilla said, pointing at the search-bar. “You spelt her name ‘A-N-N’ so why don’t we try ‘A-N-N-E’?”
“Worth a shot.” Luz said as she did just that.
And a couple of minutes later.
“Wait a minute… that’s her!” Luz said as she pointed to a photo. “Anne Boonchuy, looks like she went missing five months ago with her friends Sasha and Marcy!”
“Oh wow, so she needed to find her friends AND get home? Sounds rough…” Amity said.
“Sadly, looks like she still hasn’t been found…” Camilla said. “That being said, maybe we can contact her parents… tell them that she is at least safe?”
“That sounds like a good idea Mom!” Luz said as she pulled out her phone.

Boonchuy residence
“Ugh…” Anne groaned as she sat down on the couch.
It had been a very rough day for her. Her family outing to the market ended up being a lot more of a hassle than she could ever expect, with a killer robot that Andrias sent after her attacking. After using her blue powers to fight it off, she had been pretty exhausted for the rest of the day.
“Are you sure you’re alright?” Hop Pop asked.
“Yeah, I just need to rest.” Anne said. “Still… it’s bad that Andrias is able to just… send robots after us.”
“Well, maybe we should prepare!” Hop Pop said. “I mean, we don’t want to make you use those blue powers, so we need to find some other way to fight back.”
“He’s right, we need to get ready!” Sprig said. “A new slingshot maybe?”
“Oh! Oh! We gotta fix Frobo!” Polly said while jumping up and down with her newly acquired legs. “Oh! And getting some boom shrooms!”
“Sorry Polly, but I don’t think we have those here… and it’ll be too difficult… and dangerous, to get actual bombs…”
“Bombs?”
“Man made boom shrooms.”
They could practically see Polly’s eyes sparkle… before an explosion in said eyes were seen.
“We need to make those!”
“Right… of course…” Anne said with a sigh.
“Hey, are you alright?” Sprig asked.
“Yeah… no… kinda?” Anna said, completely unsure herself. “I just… need some time.”
“Of course, take all the time you need.” Hop Pop said.
“Right, thanks…” Anne said. “That being said though, you’re right! We need to prepare!”
“Right!” Sprig said.
“Still though, would be nice if we had more help…” Polly said.
“Well, we can’t get ordinary people involved, too dangerous…” Anne said.
“Uh… are there any non-ordinary people around that can help?” Sprig asked.
“Ugh… nope…” Anne groaned out. “And it’s not like that help is just gonna call us on the phone or something!”
At that moment, the phone began to ring.
“Ok, that was creepy.” Anne said.
“Uh, what’s going on?” Polly asked.
“We’re getting a call, I’ll explain later.” Anne said as she, without thinking, answered the phone.
“Boonchuy residence, Anne speaking.” She said, as if it was rehearsed.
“Anne? Anne Boonchuy?!” Said a familiar voice on the other side.
It was at this moment that Anne knew that she screwed up.
“Oh! Uh, nope! Not me! Totally not back from being out of town for uh… almost half a year now!” Anne said in a panic.
The three frogs just slapped themselves in the faces.
“Anne, it’s me! Luz! You know, the other human that was also stuck away from home!” Luz said.
“Luz… wait! The witch in training?!” Anne gasped out.
“BETTER DRESSED ANNE?!” Polly shouted in the background.
“That’s me! Wow! You actually got home?!” Luz asked. “I just checked out of curiosity, and the missing child forms still say that you and your friends are missing!”
Anne inhaled deeply. “Uh, yeah, just got home yesterday actually…”
“That’s great! Hey, we should meet up! Talk, do some shopping, have that sleepover!” Luz said excitingly.
“Oh uh, yeah! We should!” Anne said. Then, she got an idea. “Hey Luz… did you ever get good with your magic?”
“Heck yeah I did! I’ll show you when we meet up!” Luz said. “Oh! And I can introduce you to Amity! She’s amazing! Way more talented than me!”
Anne could of sworn she heard a tea kettle steaming in the background after that comment.
“Yeah, I’d like that.” Anne said. “Where do you live anyways?”
“Connecticut, you?” Luz asked.
Anne inhaled sharply at this information. “California…”
“Oof, bit of a trip…” Luz said. “Ok, no prob! I’ll figure something out! You just worry about settling back into your home, ok?”
“Ok, sounds good. Talk again soon.” Anne said before hanging up.
“Was that…?” Sprig asked.
“Yeah… that was our help.”
—
Meanwhile, outside, a small robot was watching her every move.
“Hmm… I see…” Andrias said as he looked at the camera feed. “I did send that first robot to kill her… but if she gets help, it won’t be enough…”
He then snapped his fingers, and a screen appeared, revealing Cloakbot.
“Change of plans Cloakbot… it looks like we are going to have to speed things up a bit.”
