November cold

Summary:

Namjoon travels thousands of miles to meet an online friend

Notes:

I wrote this on a whim and it was in my drafts for a long time. Ruby, I know you know why I wrote this. Hope you like the gift.

Work Text:

Caffè Nero, Marylebone. 11:30 am.

Is travelling thousands of miles worth it?

Namjoon checks his watch. It’s his third time taking a transcontinental flight, the second one to the UK. He’s lucky, his paternal uncle lives here. Coming all the way just to meet an internet friend would’ve raised way more eyebrows from his parents. More so, from his roommate, Yoongi. But telling people he’s here to visit his uncle and his family is so much more convenient.

“You haven’t really mentioned this uncle,” Yoongi had said.

"The topic never came up," Namjoon had shrugged. “He’s my dad’s cousin.”

“Huh.”

Cause that’s all Yoongi said anyway.

It was a mixture of I know you’re shitting me and I won’t ask if you don’t want to tell.

They decided on 11:45 am because the ambiguousness seemed silly enough to make them both calm their nerves.

The last time Namjoon was here, he had loved hot chocolate from these cafes. They had chains all over the city. Too bad, back then they didn’t know each other. Namjoon would’ve loved to have hot chocolate with

Just got down at the station.

Cool. I’ve reached already.

Okay.

What are you wearing, hyung?

Hmm

White T-shirt, black jacket. Jeans.

Wow

Seems comfortable

What are you wearing?

Hehe, you’ll tease me

Lemme guess

Black T-shirt, black pants, black coat, black boots, black cap?

🙈

You know me too well

Yet, I haven’t seen your face

You will

I came out of the tube station

Walking

Come soon, baby

🙈

Soon can’t be here soon enough.

On katalk, Namjoon gets a pop up from his mom asking whether they can video chat now. Namjoon offers a polite excuse. Is tomorrow okay? His mom says okay. Take care, Namjoon-ah.

It would’ve been more. With — with him. It could’ve. It will be so easy, so natural. He is exactly Namjoon’s type. But he lives here and Namjoon lives all the way in Seoul.

And they don’t know jackshit about each other.

So Namjoon takes the little crush, folds it up and tucks it in the little pocket of his jacket.

When all black appears, it takes Namjoon’s breath away.

He’s made up of cream. His words had already shown that. All pretty and pure. He talks politely over texts, always gives respectful answers to anybody who questions his tactics and theories.

They met on a discord server for Starcraft. Fandom buddy , Namjoon had told Yoongi’s boyfriend, Hoseok, when he asked.

Discord turned to private messages to exchanging numbers to Line conversations to calls.

“I wanna meet you,” he had said softly one night. And Namjoon had started saving money for his flight. Never thought that fandom buddy could come to Seoul. After all, he was from Busan. His parents live there.

Namjoon sees his eyes first. The rest of him is hidden under the black cap and black mask. But the eyes are enough.

Dark, open wide as they search for Namjoon in the crowd and Namjoon stays where he is, on the pavement, staring, dumbfounded.

This man is worth the stare. He has a faint blush from the November cold. But it’s barely visible from the mask. It reaches the tips of his cheeks and peaks at Namjoon like the blush acknowledges Namjoon before he does.

Then, their eyes meet and suddenly, everything makes sense.

Namjoon thanked Seokjin approximately 10 times for sending him the link to join that discord server. That was so not enough.

A smile creeps up his face and he grins openly, wide eyes turning to prettiest crescents. He raises a hand and waves at Namjoon and Namjoon waves back.

“Namjoon hyung?” he asks, voice soft, timid.

Namjoon nods, smiling so wide that he can barely see him right now. “Yes, Busanboy97.”

He laughs, taking off his mask and Namjoon does the same.

It was as Namjoon expected. Blushed cheeks. Like strawberry syrup dancing in cream. With a slight overbite, he chuckles. Pink lips in a thin line. A mole under the lower one, just like Namjoon. Is he really supposed to be this perfect?

Namjoon knows he isn't.

"Nice to meet you, Bonsailuvr," he says with a British accent., accentuating the luvr.

Namjoon shies away, but the boy is quick to hug him. With warmth around, Namjoon sighs, "You're so worth it, Jungkook-ah."

Turns out, travelling thousands of miles is worth it.
