Chapter Text
Jon had been in Damian's room countless times, but never had Jon stayed overnight in Damian's room. Currently Damian was getting ready for bed in his bathroom. Jon sat on the king sized bed he would share with Damian. He was sharing a bed with his best friend and crush. A king sized bed, but still a bed. He took a deep breath and let it out. Don’t panic, don’t panic, just breathe.
After several more minutes Jon heard the shower turn off, and Damian moved about the bathroom. The sink faucet turned on and turned off a few minutes later. It was only a few more minutes after that that Damian walked out of his bathroom. Jon was so focused on not panicking he didn’t notice Damian had come to stand a few feet in front of him.
“Jon?” Damian said, gaining Jon’s attention. The younger boy looked up and his face instantly turned red.
Damian was wearing the long sleeved green shirt and green short shorts he had loaned him a few months ago. He wondered what happened to those. Damian had claimed them, and Jon couldn’t complain. Damian claimed his clothes as his own as his PJs, and he had to admit he found that cute.
“Jon, you ok?” Damian asked. He had been calling Jon’s name for two minutes with no response.
“Huh, yeah I am fine,” Jon replied, trying to focus on Damian and not what he was wearing.
“You sure because I was calling your name for two minutes and you didn’t respond.
“It is nothing. It’s just you’re wearing the clothes I lent you. I didn’t know you took them,” Jon said.
“Oh, yeah, sorry,” Damian said. “I can give them back.”
“No, it is fine. It is just,” Jon trailed off.
“Just what?” Damian asked.
“Nothing. It is nothing. You would laugh,” Jon said.
“What, Jon? Do you have a crush on me or something?”
Jon gave him a pitiful look like he expected Damian to make fun of him. When Jon realized Jon wasn’t denying it his eyes widened in realization.
“You have a crush on me?” Damian asked carefully.
This was unreal. Damian had a crush on his best friend, and now his best friend had a crush on him too. This only happened in his dreams.
“Go ahead and laugh,” Jon said, getting up to walk to the bathroom.
Damian grabbed his arm as he walked past. “Stop,” he said.
“What? So you can laugh at me? I would rather not have my heart broke more,” Jon said, pulling away.
“Who said anything about laughing? You are my best friend, and your feelings are anything but a laughing matter. In fact I am happy you have a crush on me,” Damian said.
Jon was overreacting and jumping to conclusions.. Damian couldn’t blame him. He did not have the best track record when it came to feelings. Damian was trying to work on that.
“You would be the one to laugh,” Jon said.
“No, even if I did not return your feelings I still wouldn’t laugh,” Damian said.
“Wait if you didn’t return my feelings?” Jon asked, not wanting to get his hopes up.
“Yes, Jon I like you too. That is why I took the shorts and shirt. I like you, and they used to smell like you though now they don’t,” Damian said.
Damian was standing in front of him now gripping both his arms. He leaned forward and kissed Jon’s cheek. Jon blushed.
“I think we should get some sleep,” Damian whispered.
“Do we have too?” Jon asked.
“Yes, Jon you have a bedtime after all,” Damian replied.
“Just one question: does this make us boyfriends?” Jon asked.
“I guess it does. I will tell you that we can cuddle in bed and talk, but if my dad or brother comes to check on us we are at least pretending to be asleep. If your parents found out we let you stay up they won’t let you back over here to stay the night,” Damian said.
Jon nodded happily.
The two climbed into bed. Jon laid his head on Damian's chest as the two curled up. The legs tangled and the arms wrapped around each other. Damian's head rested on the pillow while Jon used his chest as a pillow.
“So What now?” Jon whispered.
“Now I will take you on a date tomorrow. Somewhere nice,” Damian said.
“How do we keep this secret from our parents?” Jon asked.
“Well you're ten, I am thirteen, I do not think we will be doing much beyond this. You know cuddles, hand holding, little kisses. As we get older we can be more open. It would be a little weird to fully date,” Damian explained.
“Yeah I think my parents would think you are trying to steal my innocence or something,” Jon laughed slightly.
“You are about the only one who can lose anything innocent about them. Growing up in the league did not leave much room for innocence. Everything innocent was taken from me,” Damian said, running his hand through Jon's hair.
“I am sorry,” Jon said. “I know it doesn’t help saying that, but I wish I could do something,” Jon said, tightening his hold on Damian. He was careful not to hold him too tightly though.
“You do more than enough. Thank you,” Damian said, kissing Jon’s forehead.
There was movement outside of Damian's door and the boys fell silent. Damian's door opened and Bruce stood in the doorway. He was on the phone with Clark.
“Yes the boys are asleep. You know it is Saturday and he is ten. You can relax bedtime a little,” Bruce said, closing the door.
Whoever was on the phone said something.
“I get he gets cranky and grumpy, but I know a thing or two about dealing with cranky boys. My own son is eternally grumpy after all.”
Damian could not hear what else was said because his father walked away, but Jon could. Not that he was paying any attention as he was listening to Damian's breathing. Jon yawned and snuggled against Damian.
“Get some sleep, Jon. I will see you in the morning,” Damian said.
“Night, Dami,” Jon murmured as he fell asleep.
“Night, J,” Damian whispered as he fell asleep too.
