Work Text:
Kaidou was…nervous to say the least. The Jet-Black Wings participating in gingerbread house making was not an obstacle to be feared. Granted, there was that one time back at home, but he knows better now!
What was going to embarrass him was what he was building it with, his girlfriend, Chiyo Yumehara.
Yumehara…Kaidou would’ve never let anyone this near before. Sure, there was his family, but they were immune to the evil that was held inside his arm! A stranger could die in the black void (the closet) that he ventures into every week! Sure, he had that thing with Teruhashi, but an angel is only barely a match for the Jet-Black Wings, warrior against Dark Reunion, The Lonely Warrior, the he’s-gonna-stop-listing-his-epithets-because-not-even-he-can-remember-them.
Regardless, Yumehara found his “mission” adorable. It wasn’t adorable, but it’s a compliment he’s willing to take.
But back to the mission at hand. Yumehara wanted to make a gingerbread house, something that Kaidou was deathly afraid of. The last time he tried to make a gingerbread house with his siblings, they made a mess of the entire living room, and their mother prevented them from ever getting one for Christmas ever again.
His girlfriend assured that he wouldn’t make too much of a mess, yet he was still worrying even while going to her house? What if Dark Reunion catches the couple while they have their guards down? He is already burdened enough with that; he can’t afford dragging someone else down with him!
In his clouded thoughts, he didn’t even notice Yumehara opening the door for him.
“Ah! Shu-shu!” she beamed, the nickname embarrassing him to great amounts. He is the Jet-Black Wings, not Shu-shu. “You’re just in time, sweetheart! Come on in!”
All Yumehara was wearing was a plain white t-shirt, a pink apron with a bunch of candy canes printed on it, and some black pants that only went down to her knees. Kaidou did his best to not set his gaze on her chest, his mother taught him over and over that it was unbecoming of a son and of an older brother. If Toki found out he stared at a girl’s chest, he’d follow suit, and then his days would be numbered by his mother.
Kaidou stepped into the house, his senses quickly filled with many sweet scents complimenting a much stronger scent of gingerbread. Apparently, Yumehara insisted on getting a fresh one before they got stale in stores. They sat down on the cushions on the floor near the table.
“Are you ready, Shu-shu?” she asked, eyes sparkling. Kaidou fell in, agreeing. “Y-yeah.”
The gingerbread set was already opened up and carefully arranged on the table in neat piles. Yumehara grabbed the instructions and read them allowed.
“Place icing on the edge of the walls to glue them together.” she instructed.
Icing on the walls? Kaidou can do that. One problem, he doesn’t know how much icing he should put in. Just a little should be fine, right? Kaidou placed one dab of icing on each side of the wall and waited for more instructions.
“Put the walls together and seam them together with more icing.”
Place the walls together? Kaidou can do that. Kaidou tenderly placed the walls together, only for them to fall apart immediately. That wasn’t supposed to happen, they were supposed to stick together, weren’t they? Regardless, Kaidou forced them up and grabbed the icing to seam them together. Maybe he should use a little more…Kaidou ended up seaming the house together with very thin strands of icing.
“Place icing on the top of the pieces and glue the roof pieces on top.”
Kaidou placed the bare minimum of icing again and tried to place the roof. Keyword: tried. As soon as he placed the roof pieces down and pushed on top, it collapsed. Yumehara pulled her head out of the manual and gasped at the wreckage.
“Shu-shu! What happened?!” she cried, her hands poking around at the crumbled walls.
“I-I did everything you asked me to!” He defended himself.
Yumehara looked around at the wreckage trying to see what he did wrong.
“...Shun.” she said once she realized what the mistake was. “You put too little icing on.”
That was his problem? Wasn’t that enough? Looking back, he might have added too little. Only by a little though.
“A-ah, um,” he stammered out. The Jet-Black Wings wasn’t used to being embarrassed like this, aside from his own mother. “W-well, you weren’t specific, a-and I w-was just taught to be safe than sorry, soo…”
Yumehara giggled and kissed his cheek. The blue-haired male’s face lit red, affection like this was still new to him.
“It’s alright,” she said, placing her hand over his. “I’ll teach you the true basics, ok?”
He smiled awkwardly. Stripped away were his chuunibyou traits he picked up from multiple anime, and then he was just Kaidou Shun. Kaidou Shun on a regular stay-at-home date with his girlfriend.
Yumehara walked him through the steps more personally, telling how much icing, although she recoiled when he wanted to put the peppermint candies on the roof, they still had fun.
And then they threw it against a random wall because what else were they going to do with it?
“They could give it to me,” Saiki said-wait huh? “I don’t mind sweets.”
Wait no no no, this is meant to be a couple story-
“You really think people will accept a fanfiction without me in it?” Saiki questioned at-me? Who is he talking to?
“You.” he replied simply-stop doing that! You know what, no. I’m not in Ever After High. I’m not having a conversation with you, Saiki.
“Why not?” the pink-haired male questioned.
Because I said so and I’m technically the goddess of this particular niche, so the story's over, folks! It’s done!
“Wait-”
THE END.
