Being an idol was stressful, a statement Sayaka Maizono could heavily agree with. Performances without end, an illusion of a normal girl to keep her fame, so many things she had to do to keep up with the pack. Sometimes she almost wished she was never a part of all of this to begin with. One of the few highlights was her boyfriend, Leon Kuwata.
Leon…ah, when they first met, the baseball star saw her as a ticket to fame. A go-to way to get rich and get chicks. Laying down on him time after time seemed to drill in the moral that no, you cannot simply start a band for girls. It’s stupid and pointless. Over time, though, she found his idiocy endearing. His cocky smile, his bold personality, his…well, everything. What wasn’t there to love in her opinion?
Keeping it a secret had been trouble at first, (damn you idol contracts), young in love, she nearly professed it to the entire academy. She’s gotten better, of course. And thankfully Leon knows when things are a little more dangerous than they should it be.
So, it completely threw her off guard when he asked her to go see a musical with him.
“W-what?” Sayaka repeated for probably the fourth time. What was Leon thinking? A public play as a date? Does he realize how dangerous that was? Doesn’t he remember that “Cafe Stalker” incident?
“That’s what I said! I want you to go and see “La Sérénade Magique” with me!” he beamed, not aware of the idol’s distress.
“Leon, you’re aware of what I have to deal with, right?!” she cried. “We can’t go out on public dates ever! And La Sérénade Magique is advertised to be a public play!”
The baseball star flinched at that. Good! Learn how stressful it is to deal with strangers trying to grope you when all you want is a damn latte!
“Yeah, I actually thought about that part,” he said nervously, which confused the heck out of Sayaka. Leon thinking things through? Did someone pay him to do this? “And it turns out morning times are not as popular. There are only about 10 tickets sold, and they’re all spaced apart. You still wanna give it a shot?”
The idol was silent, Leon really went all the way for her? Well, it couldn’t hurt to try…
“Ok.”
She just hoped it wasn’t too bad even when she saw the baseball star’s face light up with joy.
XoXo
A lot of coercing later, Sayaka and Leon finally made it to the theater where the musical was held. True to Leon’s word, barely any people were in the seats, and they were all pretty separate. Even in her disguise, Leon could tell Sayaka was smiling.
The lights turned down as the play was beginning, and based on how the narrator was slurring, it was obvious they weren’t planning on a morning performance.
The singers came on, and oh gods, they were so awful! So out of tone, singers flipping what part they were singing on the regular, just a giant mess. They weren’t even singing any rare Christmas songs, just generic songs like Jingle Bells and Deck the Halls. While Sayaka’s band had to deal with a lot of autotune sometimes, she’s sure that even Lights in the Garden could be better than this!
Despite her knowing better, the idol couldn’t help but giggle at it all. It was so bad, it was good. Noticing his girlfriend, Leon started laughing in turn.
When the play ended through a quarter of the cast in sexy elf uniforms fainting on stage, Sayaka was still barely holding her giggles when they left. Leon, while just as equally amused at the play as she was, managed to keep it in long enough to readjust the hood on her disguise.
“Well, didja like it?” he asked, a wry grin on his face. Sayaka giggled some more before giving her answer through a peck on the cheek.
“Yeah,” she replied, “It was awesome. Thanks, Leon~!”
The wannabe-guitarist was too flushed to get back at her.
