Work Text:
All of Zaun is broken. The towering structures with faults and fissures spanning from foggy sky to the depths below. The people mirror the pit, daily struggling to crawl their way up only to be kicked back off the edge by enforcers. The city filled with pitiful creatures screaming and screeching. Then he came, heartless void creature to some, savior to others.
The day he found you in your corner of the pit he was nothing less than a shimmering bright light. He took you in his hands like he did the city and started forging and sculpting you to his own design. As the city grew you flourished with it, and you would follow your savior and creator till the ends of time.
Now at the waters edge, he slowly wades in before looking back at you. Those eyes that always pierced your heart, gazing at you as he offers a hand.
“Will you follow me my dear?”
“Always” you reach out and he firmly grasps his hand around yours.
Your body automatically pulls towards him like a magnet into the water, watching as his other outstretched hand skims the surface of the water. Once you’ve reached out far enough he lets go of your hand, smirking with a huff at the way your hand reflexively chases his.
“Water is powerful, it washes over roots and tongues to give life, and can suffocate and sweep away the life it help create in an instant. This river gave me a new life, gave jinx a new life, it let us drown our weakness and emerge from its waters cleansed.” At first he scooped up some water to splash in his face, letting the tips of his fingers slowly caress down his scars where water dripped in and out of the ridges.
Standing transfixed on the man before you, your eyes endlessly traced every inch. His form seemed frozen in a trance, eyes lost in the distance of time. You could see the flex of his muscles as he returned and stared straight back at you.
“We all need you to be the best version of yourself Y/N. Jinx needs you.” He stepped forwards bring an arm around your back, pulling you taut against his chest. Looking up you watch his eyes watching you back while the back of his fingers glides against your skin coaxing your eyes closed.
“I need you.” His lips grazes against the shell of your ear. A gasp breaks through your lips as your lungs ached for air after unknowingly holding your breath, as if you were already under water.
He briefly pushes back just enough to hold your cheek and pull you in for a kiss. Hands curling through each other’s hair, you barley register moving with his body down to your knees, water now up to your necks.
He pulls back from your wanting lips to rest your foreheads together. “You’re not the weak little thing I found anymore, let the old you wash away in the river.”
He grasps around your waist and twists your body to float with your hands folded on your lap. One of his hands latches onto yours while the other brushes a damp strand of hair out of your eyes. He didn’t need you to answer him, he knew you were loyal and would follow him back into the pit if he asked. He knew your love was as unbreaking and unshifting as his resolve.
Your eyes stayed locked on his, watching his stoic gaze briefly flex into one of love and pride. His hand curls into your hair, leading you down to the depths below. His other hand stays latched firmly in yours but you don’t squeeze back. Even as you sunk in the cool water your eyes remained open staring up at him through gentle waves. You’re floating blissfully and in his dark waters you are reborn in power and purpose.
The moment you let your eyes slip close and the last little bubble from your mouth reaches the surface his arms are under you pulling you out. Cradling your body to his, he starts heading back to shore. Your lungs are screaming for air that you appease in small gulps buried against the skin of his neck. Heartbeat slowing to match his, you bask under his gaze. Eyes meeting once more without the distortion he captures another soft kiss.
“Absolute perfection my dear.”
Yes under his strength and guidance you are reborn.
