Chapter 1: A Million Dreams

Summary:

Chris and Martin often dreamed of escaping their small town and venturing beyond the horizon.

Aviva was a young girl with small means and big dreams.

What happens when these three young people get together?

Notes:

Aviva's outfit is inspired by the pirate costume she wore in the episode "Aye Aye", only with some modifications:

— No hat. I don't know why, but stereotypical "pirate hats" always bothered me.
Instead, she's just going to go with a ponytail.

— Her coat is bright red, which involves an expensive dye made from insects. It also seems to have gold trimmings.
I think this would be impossible for her to have, but she does have a ship, so just pretend the trimmings were polished/glided bronze and the coat was dyed with a paint from the madder root, so it's a reddish brown.

I'm going to dive into Aviva's backstory and family history:

— Her ancestor, Elvira, would have grown up during the time of Spanish colonialism. Piece it together from there.

— Aviva is also a Jewish name, and Judaism is matrilineal, so I'm going to run with it.

Chapter Text

Christopher and Martin were often seen traipsing about at the outskirts of town, chasing bees and clouds before they tripped on their feet and tumbled down into the valley. There was an occurrence where the younger one was seen riding on the shoulders of the eldest, waving a branch about like king wielding his scepter. There was also a time when the boys decided to pick up long cuts of hickory wood and hack at each other, crying "Have at thee," and what nonsense.

But what many found most endearing was watching the eldest chase the youngest, mounted on their dog, galloping after some phantasm in blissful ignorance of her young master's screams.

It would be well past noon when they calmed down, lying in the dirt and gazing at the sky. Christopher had his father's hat cocked over his eyes, slumbering away while the eldest was skipping stones across the brook.

I close my eyes and I can see

The world that's waiting up for me

That I call my own

Through the dark, through the door

Through where no one's been before

But it feels like home

They should have been in bed by now, but Martin had concealed five candles under his bed. When he was sure that their mother was asleep, he took out a candle, lit it, and beckoned for his brother to follow him. Chris, dismayed to be shaken at the middle of the night, was struggling to keep his eyes open.

"Look at this," it was a journal, worn and cracked with age with creamy pages. Many envelopes were sealed between them, but unfolded were revealed not to be envelopes but the sketches of the dreams of one Martin Kratt.

They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy

They can say, they can say I've lost my mind

I don't care, I don't care, so call me crazy

We can live in a world that we design

'Cause every night I lie in bed

The brightest colours fill my head

A million dreams are keeping me awake

I think of what the world could be

A vision of the one I see

A million dreams is all it's gonna take

Oh a million dreams for the world we're gonna make

There's a house we can build

Every room inside is filled

With things from far away

The special things I compile

Each one there to make you smile

On a rainy day

They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy

They can say, they can say we've lost our minds

I don't care, I don't care if they call us crazy

Runaway to a world that we design

Every night I lie in bed

The brightest colours fill my head

A million dreams are keeping me awake

I think of what the world could be

A vision of the one I see

A million dreams is all it's gonna take

Oh a million dreams for the world we're gonna make

Aviva Corcovado was the great-great granddaughter of Elvira Corcovado, an adventurer who was said to be born with her eyes focused on the sun.

However big, however small

Let me be part of it all

Share your dreams with me

You may be right, you may be wrong

But say that you'll bring me along

To the world you see

To the world I close my eyes to see

I close my eyes to see

Every night I lie in bed

The brightest colours fill my head

A million dreams are keeping me awake

A million dreams, a million dreams

I think of what the world could be

A vision of the one I see

A million dreams is all it's gonna take

A million dreams for the world we're gonna make

For the world we're gonna make
