Chapter Text
Icy fingers, the peaceful night sky, and a small car driving through a forest on an old road. It was silent. You could hear the sound of nature during these nights; the crickets who played their music rhythmically; the owls who were hooting from time to time and the little fireflies that painted a picture in the sky.
In the small little car was a young couple in their twenties. A brunette was sitting on the driver's seat, her calm hands steered the steering wheel with expertise. In the back of the car, a black-haired boy was spread out on the seats; his eyes were closed and he tossed around a lot. The driver looked at him through the rear-view mirror from time to time with a worried expression on her face.
After a little while, the car parked on the side of a road. The woman stepped out, shutting the car door behind her. She leaned against the car, her arms crossed.
The brunette sighed, then looked up at the night sky. She felt a wet drop dripping down her face. Was she crying? The girl touched the spot, where she felt the sudden drop of water.
She hasn't cried in years.
Soon after, the brunette felt another wet droplet on her skin – this time she felt it on her hands and more followed after that. It seemed like her eyes weren't the cause of this after all, it was the rain from the sky that started soaking her.
“A-Ada?” a croaky voice sounded from the car. Hearing the voice, she turned around immediately, seeing her companion stepping out into the gentle rain. Ada showed him a quick smile when she saw him still rubbing his tired eyes.
The brunette walked over to him, putting a tender hand on his back. Ada lightly tried to push him back inside “I'm here, don't worry. Get enough rest dear.”
Ada followed him into the backseat of the car, both of them sitting next to each other. She slightly knit her brows in concern “Can't you sleep? Is something hurting Emil?” she asked him, placing her hand on his.
Emil shook his head “No..everything's fine..” he responded as he looked out of the window.
The brunette bit her lip, gripping his hand tighter. “Talk to me, okay? I need to know what's going on.” Emil, slightly hunched together, was not responding. She didn't want to drop the topic however.
I can't lose him..I can't…
Ada scared herself with how desperate she sounded in her head right now. When did the brunette become so desperate? The girl leaned herself into his direction “Emil..I care about you greatly…Tell me what's going on.” Ada softly stroked his cheek with her hand but he didn't move a bit.
After a few more seconds of silence, Ada released his hand and sighed; she shuffled over to the door. Just as she wanted to step out of the car Ada heard the voice of her lover speak up "Why did you help me Ada?" he mumbled, she barely registered his words.
‘Why did you help me, Ada,’ the words echoed in her mind. The woman gripped her long dress tight, quickly going over her options. Ada could dismiss it like usual and just tell him not to worry about it and that it doesn't matter and the only thing that matters is that he's away from that awful place, but with how Emil grew more and more quiet over their trip the past week she knew she had to be honest and not give a half honest answer this time. What should she say though? Ada doesn't know the real truth herself.
Why did she go through all that trouble?
“Emil I-” Ada started, turning back around. This time Emil was facing her – both stared into each other's eyes. Emil slowly took hold of Ada's hand just like she would always do for him. That action put a soft smile on her face. “I wish I could tell you,” Ada said, gripping his hands in return. “To give you the definitive answer, but...Will you give me a little more time to give you an answer?”
“Ada, you..” Emil's grip on her hands weakend, his head hung low. “That can't be all... it doesn't really make sense..to me…Sorry.”
Before she could utter another word, he continued, “Don't you have family? What about your job? I'm g-glad that we can be together...And that I'm a-away from that awful place..but..I want you to be happy Ada. A-and..I don't see how you can be okay with being on the run for maybe the rest of y-your life and..Ada I-I don't see how...H-how I'm worth it...”
Ada's jaw dropped in shock, she leaned in to wrap her arms around the black haired boy instantaneously. “Love, you would do anything for me right?” she whispered into his ear. She could feel Emil nodding; he slowly wrapped his hands around her waist in return. The brunette smiled, she backed off a bit to cup both of his cheeks with her hands. “And I would do anything for you Emil,” she stated with a smile.
Warmth consumed her as she leaned in close, her lips brushing his. She could smell his sweet scent and the taste of her lips that still lingered far after their lips separated once again.
It's not just for my hypnotherapy like when I first met you...I'm sure of it , she added in her thoughts. That's what she believed.
The brunette moved back to the driver's seat soon after.
Ada started the car once again. She turned to Emil, the corners of her mouth lifted. “We still have a long way to go. Get some rest,” she told him.
“Make sure to get rest too Ada..” he responded from the backseat, a little yawn escaped his lips. “And...Don't just go out into the rain next time…You could get sick,” he added. Emil laid back down, closing his eyes to get some more sleep.
Ada couldn't help but smile. The rain slowly started to diminish again, and the clouds revealed a clearer sky, letting the moonlight through. Soon after, the sound of her whistle could be heard echoing throughout the car.
Emil seemed to have a peaceful sleep that night.
