All the original digidestined were sitting in the park surrounded by their digimon and food. After everything with Meiko they tried their hardest to bond as friends again and not drift apart like previously. Tai was the one that had been putting all these meetings together in between his college courses and work.
Tai was also the one who always ran late to the things that he planned.
Everyone was there and sitting, pulling out food from the picnic baskets. The digimon playing tag with one another, it was the perfect time for Kari to ask the question that’s been on her mind.
“So you all are a little bit in love with my brother right?” Kari smiled and tilted her head, eyes closed. Everything around her became silent, the food that was going to be eaten fell out of hands, drinks were dropped, and laptops closed. There was one beat then another before everyone was denying the accusation.
Kari, always the one to stay calm, picked up a piece of cake and cut into it with a fork. Joe was blushing and covering his head with his arms mumbling that she was wrong. Mimi had a small blush on her cheeks and put her nose into the air giving a maybe. Izzy was talking equations about how it’s not probable. Sora, sweet Sora, was still frozen, Biyomon waving her wings in front of her face. Matt looked away grumpily and TK sat next to her eating a sandwich and was the only one to give a normal response, “I totally had a crush on him when I was younger. I’m pretty sure Davis did too.”
Matt whipped his head to give his brother an odd look.
“I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. Tai is special and I love my brother. I just want what’s best for him, you know.” TK nodded his head like he understood.
The rest of the digidestined however, felt the threatening aura that came from Kari’s easy words. It didn’t help that Gatoumon was sharpening her nails right next to her. Kari noticed the way the others looked at Tai and she wasn’t sure if any of them would ever gather the courage to tell him. It was disheartening because she truly cared for everyone here and all of them were people she could see Tai bonded with in life.
The silence permeated their picnic a little longer. Then they heard the shouting of Tai who was running at top speed towards them. Dropping his bag down, he squeezed himself in the middle of Sora and Matt.
“Sorry I’m late, did I miss anything?” Tai looked around with a smile on his face. He didn’t notice how all of his friends had small blushes and didn’t want to meet his eyes.
All except Kari and TK.
“Oh yeah, I just told everyone I used to have a crush on you Tai.” TK stated easily as he wiped his fingers off with a napkin. Now it wasn’t just Matt giving TK the incredulous looks it was everyone else.
Kari was handing a plate of cake over to her brother like the good sister she was. Tai gave her a grateful smile and balanced on his knee. “Really? I always thought you had a crush on Kari.”
All of them looked over at Tai, was it really that easy? Just come out and say it like there was nothing wrong with it.
TK gave a grin and reached out to clasp Kari’s hand in his. “You and Kari are alike and I was in my girls' have cooties stage.” Kari squeezed his hand back and dropped a kiss on his cheek.
After everything that happened with Meiko the two of them finally confessed to one another. Tai was so happy that he bought a confetti popper and popped it over them. He was even giving them a gentle smile now, knocking his shoulders with Sora and Matt. “Young love.” He whispered.
“Well TK it just means you have great taste. I mean I am awesome.” Tai then promptly stuffed his mouth with cake.
Matt gave him a disgusted look, “Gross.”
Tai chewed the food and swallowed before elbowing Matt, “I am not gross. I am crush material you heard TK!”
