Work Text:

The sounds of the sea felt distant, with his mind wandering horizons-far from the shore. How did he get into this situation, Miyuki resting on his thighs, arms wrapping around his waist, the cold waters soaking their clothes yet the two couldn't care less. Narumiya doesn't remember. Narumiya doesn't care.

"It hurts."

"I know."

Narumiya ran his fingers through Miyuki's hair, the only form of comfort he knows. Comfort that Miyuki can only get from Narumiya.

"Am I not enough?"

"You're enough for me, Kazuya."

"But not for Eijun."

"I'm not Eijun."

"I know."

The salty air felt like fire in his lungs with every inhale. Narumiya was drowning, his head was above the water but he was drowning like an anchor and Miyuki was the sea.

"How does it feel? Being the one who was always there but never chosen."

"Awful."

"Now you know how I feel. I've always been here for you, but not once have you looked at me with love in your eyes. Not once have you considered my feelings for you. Not once have you given me a chance." He didn't say, no matter how much Narumiya wanted to break in front of Miyuki to make him feel guilt, to make him realize how much he's hurting because of him. Narumiya stayed silent.

"Sorry for dragging you out just for this. I'll be heading back now."

Miyuki stood up and walked away to who knows where. Narumiya stayed glued onto the sand, feeling every breath of the cold wind on his skin more with the lack of Miyuki's body heat.

"I hate you, Kazuya." He didn't say, but his glass-like eyes spoke louder than words.

"I know." He didn't reply, but Miyuki knows Narumiya hates him. He doesn't have to look back to know that Narumiya was glaring daggers at his back. He knew why Narumiya hates him, who wouldn't? But that was okay, he thought. If Narumiya hated him, it would be easier for him to forget his feelings for Miyuki. There's no need for closure when you hate a person with your entire being.

Right?
