Chapter Text
Mirabel ran up the stairs, reaching for the doorknob that would give her a gift of her own. A gift that would show what makes her special. Then she will truly be part of family Madrigal. As she touched the doorknob, she glanced at her abuela. Her reaction was pure shock that turned to anger. Then Mirabel looked at the door that wasn't there anymore, the feeling of the doorknob faded from her hands. Processing what just happened, Mirabel started weeping and ran to the nursery, locking the door.
The rest of her family was shocked, unable to move. Only Julieta started looking for her daughter. She went straight to the nursery, gently knocking on Mirabels doors.
"Mirabel, are you there?" The sound of her child crying broke Julietas heart, but she couldn't come in. She needed to give Mirabel some space.
"Just know we all still love you even if you don't have a gift, okay? I'll be near the door so if you need anything please just ask, alright?"
Mirabel continued crying, thinking what she did wrong. Was she not a good child? Camilo got a gift, why didn't I get a gift? Am I even a Madrigal?
After five years
Mirabel is now ten years old. Her little cousin was born and her birthday was approaching. No one really celebrated her birthdays. After all, what is there to be happy about? The memory of the tragedy that befell the Madrigal family five years ago is the only thing they all remember. Only her mom, her dad and sometimes her sisters give her a gift of some sort. Her cousins also give her one gift aswell, but no party is thrown or anything. On the day of her birthday, Mirabel always comes to look: maybe, just maybe, a door has appeared. Well this time it has, she slowly walked up to it. Staring at it, she was thinking of whether she should tell her family about the new door, but the door was practically calling for her, so she had no time to waste. She touched the doorknob, fearing that what happened last time would happen again.
The door lit up, and it now showed Mirabel surrounded by butterflies and holding one that was glowing. Then, a swarm of butterflies came towards her. She held one of them, and it turned into a pencil. What a coincidence! She really wanted to draw at the moment. Another butterfly flew towards her, and turned into a piece of paper. That's when Mirabel realized she can create anything she wished with her butterflies.
After hearing weird sounds of a door, aswell as something flapping it’s wings, Dolores came out of her room and saw Mirabel's eyes glowing, whilst creating something out of a butterfly. She called over abuela and the rest of family Madrigal.
