Work Text:

The world was dangerous. That’s what Aizawa knew. The world was difficult, and there were so many ways it could all go wrong, especially with his kids.

He let his eyes roam over the most problematic of their group. Assessing what potential harm could come to them.

His eyes landed on Midoriya, problem child to end all problem children. Aizawa made a note not to let his eyes stray too far from the kid. He was the one most caught up in most villain attacks, after all. But that wasn’t the only danger that could befall him.

Would the cold be getting to him? Surely the kid was going to begin feeling the pain in his arms start flaring up. Aizawa knew from his own injuries the cold could be the worst killer sometimes. He’d keep an eye out for Midoriya rubbing his arms. The kid always seemed to do that when it was a particularly rough day.

He couldn’t help his attention being directed to the other biggest problem child. Bakugo at least seemed to be less irritated than he usually was, surrounded by the squad he and some of the others had formed. It gave Aizawa a little bit of relief that he was able to check on him and keep his temper in check. It was good for him to be surrounded by his friends.

On the topic of friends, Aizawa diverted his attention to the newest member of their class. Shinso. Aizawa wasn’t afraid to admit that he had been a bit concerned for the kid at first. Transferring classes midyear was never going to be smooth sailing for a kid’s social group, especially if that kid was coming into the recklessness that was 1-A.

Not that Aizawa was worried his students would shun Shinso. He knew them better than that. In fact, Midoriya and his little group seemed to scoop Shinso right up and claim him as one of their own.

Aizawa remembered being told by his protege about how they had all cornered him one day, Iida threateningly chopping the air- Shinso’s words, not his own. The group had asked him to study, and now Shinso was part of their weekly meetups. He was starting to have good friends. And if the blush Shinso seemed to sport around Midoriya after quirkless sparing that ended with Shinso flat on the floor, perhaps there was a little bit more forming there.

Lastly, his eyes fluted over to where Kaminari was. If he wasn’t careful, one good shock could put them all out of commission. Aizawa found himself more confused. Was Kaminari... jumping?

Aizawa looked over the rest of the kids catching on where Jiro and Momo were off the side, looking at Kaminari’s stunts. Ah. That explained it.

Aizawa could sympathize; he was once a teenager though sometimes he did forget that.

It was hard to be pining over someone in a time when emotions were going wild, especially when there were potentially two people your heart longed for. Aizawa could sympathize a little too much.

He felt a hand softly touch his and almost jumped at how much it had startled him. He sent his husband a quick glare.

“Sho, look. Relax. The kids are all fine; they’re having fun,” Hizashi placated him, “Even Eri seemed to be less scared of the ice now that the third years are on the case.”

Yamada let his hand fall even more on Shota’s, just barely intertwining the fingers.

They had both taken up residence on a bench outside the rink in a corner. Just in perfect view of the whole area. No chance for villains to get the attack on them, and it allowed Aizawa to look over his students at the moment.

Aizawa let his eyes glance over at where Mirio was dragging a smiling Eri along the ice. Tamajiki had his arms out, steading in case she fell. Nejirie seemed to be fluttering around the outskirts of their little group. To anyone else, she looked like she had been dizzying around. Shota could tell, though that she was making sure none of the other skaters on the ice would run into them. Nejirie must of felt his eyes on her as she turned and after recognizing it was him gave a small wave. He returned it half-heartedly. Good for her. She had an impressive display of situational awareness. All three of them were quickly on their way to becoming exceptional heroes.

Yamada looked out at the kids before looking back at Aizawa, “Why don’t we try and join them?”

“Join them?” Aizawa looked over at Yamada incredulity. They were there meant to chaperone. They had to be alert.

“Yeah, come on, grumpy man, your kids are out on the ice. They’ll get a kick out of it.”

Yamada started pulling Aizawa up. He let himself go deadweight for a moment, slightly dragging Yamada down; luckily, the voice hero had a clue of what was going on and had stopped before falling flat on his face. Aizawa softly smiled; what a pity, it would have given him a good laugh. Yamada did not look that amused.

“I’ll get you in skates,” Yamada said with a determined tone.

Aizawa laughed before giving one of his grins, the grins that would typically terrify his students, “I’d like to see you try.”

--

“Um, is that Yamada-sensei and Aizawa sensei?” Kirishima pointed. Their group turned over to see Aizawa and Yamada currently half wrestling each other near the entrance to the ice skating rink.

“I think.. That’s their version of flirting,” Kaminari noted.

“Not like you have much room to talk, trying to get Jiro’s attention. How’s the ankle, by the way?” Sero said with a snicker. He was still half-holding Kaminari after his failed attempt at a leap.

“Well, we should leave them alone,” Mina said, attempting to shake their attention away, “Mr. Aizawa actually looks like he’s having fun.”

It was true, they thought. Aizawa was putting up a big show of trying to get off the ice and shoving Yamada away, but after a few months of knowing him as their teacher the kids could tell he had the slightest uplift in his smile.
