Work Text:

Yuriko sighed as she finished her meeting with her club. She hadn't seen Midari all day and was excited to see her girlfriend and school would end in about an hour. Soon she’d have to go home. Heading to the beautification club room she was surprised when no one was there.

Not even Ayame or Naoe were there, which was odd. Naoe was a known workaholic whereas Ayame didn't have other friends so she often hung out with the group. Entering she saw that chips (Both gambling and potato) littered the floor as did a now empty 2 liter bottle of soda. The floor was sticky as yuriko growled. Her shoes ruined and she lifted her kimono up to avoid the mess

She was brought out of her thoughts by something being dragged.

“You just had to jump on me like that, horny ass bitch.” She heard someone yell.

“Hey I won the gamble so I can do what I please.”

“Still you made such a damn mess…”

Turning around she noticed Shagatake and Tooame. Tooame carried a wet floor sign and Shagatake was dragging a full mop bucket into the room.

“Oh, lady yuriko. We weren't expecting company. Sorry about the mess.” Shagatake said as she began to mop. Tooame swept the chips off the floor.

“Nevermind that. Have you seen Midari?”

“Nope. President hasn't been around all day. She even canceled our meeting. Did you try the north wing?” Shagatake suggested.

“Or the basement.” Tooame added. “The key is on the desk.”

Yuriko didn't want to go to the basement but grabbed the key just in case.

“Hey! Watch it..fucking whore!”

She turned back to see the girls fighting again and sighed.

She gulped as she headed down the old stairs and gently opened the door.  Walking through the hallway she noticed one of the doors was cracked. She heard gasps and opened it…While someone was in the basement it wasnt who she was hoping for.

“Oh, I'm sorry…” Yuriko blushed as she saw Ayame and Naoe. Naoe was pinned underneath Ayame on a small bed. Ayame biting into the girl's neck. Thankfully they were still clothed…for now…

Ayame and Naoe looked surprised to see her. They quickly blushed and sat up.

“Its ok.” Naoe said, clearing her throat.

“Um..have you seen Midari?” She asked.

“No we haven't. Sorry. Though she often naps in the north wing.” Ayame said.

“You can take some “Supplies.” If you need to.” Naoe added. “Or I'll have one of the delinquents go with you.”

“That's not a nice way to talk about half our council.” Ayame teased.

“But it's the truth is it not?” Naoe said. Her tone is stoic.

“Oh..I wouldn't want to inconvenience them. It’s not that important.”  Yuriko said as she grabbed a knife from the drawer. Its tip shining off the lights. Sliding it into her pocket she bowed and left the pair.

“Ayame…” Naoe moaned softly. Yuriko blushed but refused to look back.

Yuriko began to feel annoyed. She decided to text Midari as she headed to the north wing. Gripping the knife tighter as this wing was known for its particular violence. Small gangs would gather here, gamble using god knows what and hurting who knows who. Then Midari would show up and clear out the infestation. Yuriko was amazed Midari didn't just “claim” the wing like she did the basement. It’d certainly reduce the violence.

She opened a door to find Kururudo sitting in a classroom alone, she appeared to be watching something (most likely a porn based on the noises coming from her phone.) Yuriko sighed and cleared her throat. Kururdo looked up.

“What’s up?”

“Have you seen Midari? I’ve been looking for her.”

“Nope. Sorry. Try the office or basement.” she said, rather annoyed, turning her attention back to the video on her phone. Yuriko heard more moaning…yep a porn for sure.

“I um already tried. Naoe and Ayame were in the basement um doing things…”

“Oh? Really?! Looks like Shagatake and Toame owe me 11,000 yen.” Kururudo laughed. a smile across her face.

“I’ve tried texting her but no response. I’m starting to get worried.” Yuriklo whimpered

“Don't be. She’s probably napping. She didn't seem in a gambling mood today.”

Yuriko sighed.

“Thanks. I’ll um…let you continue…Sorry for the interruption.”

“Its no interruption.”

Yuriko sighed as she walked back to her club. Midari’s known hiding places were no good. She sighed as anger ran through her. Was Midari ignoring her? If so, why? She stopped to get a snack from the vending machine. She noticed the classroom next to the machine was open. She peeked her head in quietly.

She noticed Mary and Yumeko gambling. She considered asking the pair but they both had a crazed look in their eyes as they kept raising.

She decided to leave and returned to her club. Grabbing her bow and several arrows she silently walked across the academy to the Kyudo fields. She sighed as she tried to focus. Looking at the large tree that sat next to the targets she sighed.

The tree was a beautiful Akagashi, it has been around since the academy was founded and most likely before that. It was strong and sturdy. Turning her attention to the targets, she separated her feet and took the stance. Opening her eyes she pulled the arrow back and fired. As the arrow pierced the target she saw that it was a perfect hit. She smiled. Moving down the line she fired twice more. Hitting the center of each target. She was filled with pride.

Pulling back the final arrow she breathed deeply, enjoying the smell of the leaves and grass. She had completely forgiven Midari for forgetting about their meeting.

She’s probably napping…

Yuriko scoffed. Napping during the middle of the day? She never understood her girlfriends strange habits but decided to let it go.

“Lady Yuriko!”

A loud call of her name startled her. Causing the arrow she was about to fire to be sent up into the large tree, possibly hitting a branch. A large thud was heard on the other side of the tree.

It turned out to be Kumagusu who had called out to her. Annoyed, Yuriko glared at her.

“So this is where you…Oh my god! Hey are you ok?” Kumagusu screamed out.

Yuriko’s expression went from annoyance to worry. She could hear the fear in the other girl's voice and ran to the other side of the tree. She gasped at what she saw. A person was facedown on the ground. Not moving. The arrow she misfired was now in someone's shoulder….

That someone was Midari Ikishima…

Her girlfriend.

Who was miraculously STILL asleep.

“Oh god, Midari?! Hey, wake up. I’m so sorry.” Yurkio gently shook her girlfriend, tears streaming down her eyes.

“What the?” Midari groaned awake. “Hey, princess dont cry. I'm here. What's wrong?”

“Midari…I…” Yuriko began.

“Hmm?” Midari followed Yuriko’s finger to see the arrow sticking out of her shoulder.

“Hmpf…princess dont worry. I’ve had worse. Besides, it was an accident.” Midari said.

“But i…” Yuriko began to sob.

Kumagusu had returned with a med kit. She began to help Midari, who stopped her.

“I got this. Just go to her.”

Midari growled and slowly pulled the arrow out while yuriko looked at the ground. Kumagusu held yuriko close. Midari hissed as she pulled out the arrow.

“Alright let's see.” Midari took off her vest and folded it up before placing it on the ground, giving her a space to work with. Midari’s undershirt wasn't buttoned, exposing skin to anyone who happened to walk by. She opened up the kit and grabbed a gauze piece and stuffed it into the wound. She then wrapped the wound with the bandage on her right arm. As Yuriko looked at Midari’s now exposed arm, she cried harder. scar after scar lined the arm. Some crisscrossing, Some parallel. However Yuriko knew they were all done by Midari’s OWN hands. She also noticed some new bruises forming on Midari’s ribs and stomach as well as a large scratch mark across her collar bone.

“See? All better yuri…good as new.” Midari teased.

Once Midari finished, Yuriko sent Kumagusu to get some tea. The girl ran off and Yuriko sat with Midari in the grass. Yuriko noticed how tired Midari looked, as though she hadnt been sleeping…which Yuriko knew was impossible as its a common fact that Midari naps throughout the day. She was most likely sleeping in the tree when Yuriko shot her.

Curiosity got the better of her and she couldn't help it.

“Um..Mida?”

“Hmm?”

“Wh..who did that?”

“Did what?” Midari’s tone is now dark. Yuriko gulped but stood her ground.

“Who hurt you?”

“I..I did it to myself.” Midari said. Hoping Yuriko would buy it…she didnt. But she could see Midari clearly didn't want to talk about it.

“Anyway, why were you sleeping again? Shouldn't you rest at home…It’d be safer…and comfier.”

Midari mumbled out an answer but Yuriko heard it anyway. Her hearing is enhanced through having her eyes closed so often. It made it easy to eavesdrop.

My mom…she hit me…again…and again…I have nothing…I am nothing…

Was what Midari had mumbled.

Yuriko simply rubbed Midari’s hair. Anger building but she swallowed it down.

“If you’re still tired, you can sleep in my office.” Yuriko smiled.

Midari laid her head in Yuriko’s lap.

“Can we just stay here?” She asked.

The sun had started to set as early evening took over the city. It was a pretty orange today. Yuriko looked up to see the moonrise in the distance. It’d be a full moon tonight. She smiled at Midari who was already asleep once again.

“Sure. Just rest Midari. I’m here. I’m here.”

Snore.
