Work Text:
'Twas the night before Christmas, and in the Waverider
Sara Lance snuggled in bed, her dear wife beside her.
Ava had wrapped all the gifts while Behrad made the food,
And the Legends watched Beebo in a very good mood.
The Legends had now retired in to their rooms,
With Behrad in the lab, and Astra bunking with Spoons.
Ava was in dressed pyjamas, Sara a soft sweater,
And they cuddled in bed, thinking life couldn’t get better.
When outside of the Waverider arose such a clatter,
That they sprang from their bed to see what was the matter.
Ava feared from such noise that it must be the Flash,
But Sara said Barry wouldn’t cause such a crash.
The Waverider had been parked in Lapland for good cheer,
Though the Legends now wished they were anywhere but here.
They looked out of the window but knew not what to say,
For there were eight magic reindeer, and a shiny red sleigh.
Sara sighed loudly, “Gideon, what the Hell?
It’s Christmas Eve night and all was going so well!”
“I’m sorry Captain Lance to put you in this position,
It may be Christmas Eve, but the team now has a mission.”
“So, what’s going on?” Zari asked, confused.
“Are we now Father Christmas?” Gary enquired, bemused.
“All right then Legends, go find a Santa hat,
Because tonight,” Sara said, “Our task is to go out in that!”
Why Santa had disappeared, the Legends didn’t know,
But they ventured from the warmth out into the snow.
Bundled in hats and in coats they boarded the sleigh,
And once they were settled the reindeer flew up and away.
With the Aurora Borealis shining overhead,
No one was worried they weren’t tucked up in bed.
As they passed over some rather vast northern woods,
The Legends noticed an issue with the seasonal goods.
“Is it just me?” asked Astra, “Or are there no toys?
What are we meant to deliver to the girls and the boys?”
Of material things the sacks were indeed empty,
But Nate had a thought that they in fact carried plenty.
“As a kid, I remember,” Nate said, feeling certain,
“Something as magic toys was peering out of the curtain.
Looking into the night, and up at the sky,
All I wanted to see was this sleigh flying by.”
“I recall doing that too,” Sara reminisced,
“Searching for Santa is something I wouldn’t have missed.
I guess now it’s different, because you can set a reminder,
To open an app and see the sleigh on Plane Finder.”
Sara took Ava’s hand, and looked at the team without doubt,
“I think that I understand what this is all about.
Christmas means more than the goodies found under the tree,
It’s not all the stuff that brings feelings of glee.
“So tonight we won’t deliver a single toy,
Because this sleigh really brings hope and a whole lot of joy.
We’re bringing the magic, the excitement, the dreams,
Tonight the Legends deliver what Christmas really means!”
“That sounds a bit crazy.” “That sounds a kinda lame.”
“That sounds really corny, but then, all the same…”
“We’ve followed you this far, so Sara, take the reins.”
And Captain at the helm, there were no further complaints.
They flew round the world over the mountains and seas,
From the jungles of Thailand to the coast of Belize,
Past the bright lights of Sydney, Seattle and Seoul,
Before ending up back at the frosty North Pole.
Feeling as though they’d pulled an all-nighter,
The Legends hoped that the world was a little bit brighter.
For the magic they’d delivered from up in the sleigh,
Surely kept some of the darkness at bay.
The team watched in awe as the reindeer flew away,
For even onboard the Waverider, this wasn’t just another day.
They finished the evening with hot chocolate or eggnog,
The galley illuminated by a virtual Yule log.
There was a queue for the bathroom while they got ready for bed,
Upon Sara’s shoulder Ava rested her head.
Once back in their rooms they turned out the lights,
Calling, “Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
